Wireless Signal Boosters

Do I need a new wireless PCI card or a signal booster?

My wireless connection keeps going off. When the connection goes down I go to the Control Panel and Network Connections and repair the connection and it usually comes right back. Is my problem a weak signal or is my PCI card too old and not adequately picking up a strong signal? Would getting a new antenna for the PCI card make a difference?

  1. Hi. Usually a drop out is caused by a weak signal. How far is the wireless router? Does it work in a different position? Do you have an external antenna? All of these may be improved.
  2. it sounds like an issue with distance, either add something to extend the range of your network, or move the location of you wireless router to a more central location in your house.
  3. You can get a high gain antenna for the Wireless Router and mount it as high as you can. Trying different locations for it may also help. As far as the PC using the Wireless - you can also get a different antenna for it. This antenna connectes to the card by a cable and the antenna sites on top of the box or anywhere were the cable will reach.
  4. check your signal strength and it will tell you if its weak or not. if the signal is good, try changing channels for the wifi on the router, maybe the current channel has interference
  5. Need more info. Did it used to work fine and has now started to fail? Is this wireless setup new or have you been using it for quite sometime? Need more details before I can help you. Don't want to guess !
