Wireless Signal Boosters

Wireless Connection Signal?

Okay, I finally have my new desktop pc connected to the wifi in my house and I am connected w/o the "Limited Access" anymore. Now I don't understand is that even though the new pc is one room over with one wall between the new pc and the router, I'm getting a poor signal. I'm using Vista home premium. I've tried using diagnose and repair function but it says there is no problems. What do I do? Do I need a signal booster or repeater? I don't want to have to pay more for this.

  1. That happens to my computer alot too. I think you should try unplugging one of the cords for a few seconds to refresh it and then click repair. I think that should work.
  2. Repairing the connection will do nothing because the problem is not in the software, it is in the hardware. There can be a number of things affecting the signal strength you get, most of which involve what exactly is in the wall between the router and the machine. Water pipes will cause serious signal degradation, power lines will also cause large amounts of interference. Depending on your router you may be able to flash it with a custom firmware to use that firmware to turn up the signal strength on the router. You may also try a number of other things including a more powerful card on your machine, or more powerful antennae on either the router or your machine or both.
