Wireless Signal Boosters

Going wifi at home?

Hi I want to set up wifi at my home. My concern is will a wifi router be able to propogate upwards to my room upstairs. The broadband modem is in a room at the bottom of the stairs, and my room is at the top of the flight of stairs. Questions on my mind: 1. Will i be able to browse upstairs if the router is kept downstairs? Or do i need to extend a wire upstairs to keep the router on the floor above. 2. I understand Wireless-N routers have better range. So, Should i go for a Wireless-G or a Wireless-N router? 3. What model would you recommend? And whats is the approx cost of W-G and W-N models? Any recommended shops in Gurgaon / Nehru place? 4. Whats the cost of a signal-booster/ bridge/ repeater/ whateveryoucallthatthingie? Thanks in advance

  1. Wireless networks are awesome, especially if you've got a laptop. Anyway, most wireless routers have a range sufficient enough to go up one flight of stairs, but that really depends on the make and model(check the box :P). Go for a 100mps + if possible. I'm from Aus, so i'm not sure what brands you have, but D-link are good. It should cost you around $150, or about $120 US. Unless your bedroom is more than 30m or so away from the router, you shouldn't need a bridge/switch. PS: Make sure you use 128 bit encryption when you have it all up and running.
