Wifi booster?

hi everyone i am going to buy either a pci or usb wifi adapter for my pc upstairs which would be better for receiving a wifi signal thats coming from downstairs thanks

2. It doesn't really matter. But most usb devices with internal antennas have poor performance due to the small form factor and positioning. If it doesn't matter what you get I'd go for a PCI card with removable antenna. If the card's performance is not optimal you can replace the antenna with either a stronger one or one with a longer cable. The devices are mostly equal in performance. The antenna is the key.
3. I agree with Alex. If your computer will be above the router, put both the router antenna and the computer antenna horizontally, and pointing in the same direction (or opposite directions, but not crossed). That'll increase the signal strength. Vertical antennas have the best signal in a horizontal direction.
