- Well, there are ways to turn your cell phone into a NIC. there are wans mans and lans that can work from miles away. There are lazer systems that can work from space. It all depends what you are talking about. You should be more clear. The only way to receveive far away wifi signals is to buy a high gain antenna for your NIC.
- you can get a usb modem from verizon or one of the other cell carriers that works from cellular phone towers. Then you have internet wherever there is phone. I am using mine right now, can use the same modem on my laptop or desktop, or friend's computer too.
- What you need is to get an Access point working in Access point client mode and attach a powerful antenna to it. like a yagi 14dbi antenna or a 14dbi panel antenna. With that you may pickup several networks from miles away.
- Search Bridge Connection in WiFi. It take to large Antenna http://www.trendnet.com/en/products/TEW-OA24D.htm that look like a small dish with a antenna in the center that send info back and forth from Location. The Antenna hook to a reciever (REPEATER) that connects to 10/100 ethernet or wireless. Here is a plug and play kit. http://www.whotspot.com/wshop/product_info.php?cPath=41&products_id=164
- Well here is a list of a few that we use. Have used them as far away as 10 miles to connect to an outside access point. Just don't forget, WIFI is line of sight. (Doesn't mean you can see it, just means there aren't any hills, tall buildings, major obstacles in the direct path!) http://tranzeo.com 19-24 db antennas with combined radios http://defactowireless.com check CPE (customer premise equipment) also high gain combined antennas and radios http://echotechwireless.com also CPE units http://www.wirelessnetworkproducts.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=24&gclid=CIjhvpKmpJACFTyKOAodcT_pgA for Motorola Canopy and others All of these are good long range units designed for OUTDOOR mounting and Power over ethernet.
