Wireless Signal Boosters

help! I am moving to place with weak wifi signals and need a booster?

Has anyone made or purchased a wifi range extender for their laptop? (something like the cantenna, other home-made device, or a professional unidirectional antenna) I do not have direct line of sight to anything, but I am hoping to boost my wifi reception somehow...Any websites or high-gain methods would be great

  1. Have a look at some of these http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_pg_2?ie=UTF8&rs=&keywords=wifi%20range%20&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Awifi%20range%20&page=2 They will nto be the cheapest prices but you will bve able to get the name of the products and then put it on google products and search for the best price. http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=wifi+range+extender&hl=en have a look here to. Dont forget to check the sellers rating and also any reviews on thier website
  2. The WRE54G worked for me a few times to extend the range of a LAN
  3. We normally carry 2 or 3 Dell Notebook PCs when we go on vacation and I carry (i) extra add-on WiFi Adapters for each Notebook PC as well as (ii) LINKSYS switch and ethernet cables so I can get all our home Dell Notebook PCs up and running, and different hotel suites have different internet setups...so I must be prepared For an older Notebook PCs if you want an excellent PCMIA WiFi Adaptor card, I would recommend the BELKIN Wireless Pre-N Notebook Network Card F5D8010 that I use and keep specifically for our older DELL Latitude D800 Notebook PC bec after I upgraded this D800 with built-in Intel PROSet Wireless 2915 (802.11 a/b/g) WAN/LAN miniPCI...to give you an example of how great reception from the BELKIN Pre-N F5D8010 is if my 12 year old son is playing Nintendo WII on our Sony HDTV in the main floor Family Room located behind our garage, and is not getting good built-in WiFi signals to stay connected, well once I insert the BELKIN F5D8010 Pre-N WiFi the one we take on vacation, he's up & running bec it's a GREAT PCMIA WiFi adapter and visit EBAY and please have patience for respectful EBAY Sellers upgrading & not keeping something they was previously good... But if you would prefer looking to your future WiFi needs and having a mainstream very versatile flexble WiFi adapter though it costs more, I would recommend you buying is LinkSys USB WiFi adaptor: Linksys W300USB N WiFi <= about $80 to $90 bec currently highest "Wireless N capabilty" that when you would plug in via your USB port and after simple install, you will have no trouble picking all all available Networks...it also would work & have same success connecting when using your Notebook PC a Panera Bread, Borders Books or Starbucks, i.e any Free Hot Spot Another great choice if you don't want to spend $80 - $90 you could also buy the earlier Wireless G verison also plugged into your Notebook PC USB port: WUSB54GS about $35 or more that you will find listed as Wireless G Linksys USB Network Adapter with "Speedbooster" <= bought for my 1at Notebook PC Gateway Pentium IV Notebook PC that did NOT have built-in WiFi and later after I sold it, and got a great deal on a Sony Vaio Pentiu IV desktop for my 11 year old daughter, I did not have time to run a LinkSys Switch and hard-wire Cat 5 cable to her upstairs level bedroom but bec she hooked it up herself to her SONY VAIO Desktop via USB port and it ran so well on the Linksys G with Speedbooster, I ended up keeping it and we take it along bec the kids play this memory hog game and the Linksys USB can connect welI enough, then that says a lot for Linksys WiFi products that are owned by CISCO Systems. Again why I believe your money would go much farther with a USB WifI adapter is the flexibility to move it to any computer (laptop or desktop) with USB ports, bec some of the newer Notebook PCs do not take the older PCMIA WiFi adapter but instead have an elongated Express slot. Hope the Above Info Helps and Best of Luck!
