  1. an access point is your wireless router. a range expander & signal booster are similar. just depends on marketing words. to incrase wifi signal over a long distance you want a wifi repeater. you can point the wifi signal somewhere else where you're going to be. google it. 10 pts please
  2. An access point is a device fro connecting to a wired lan and providing wireless connection to machines with wireless cards (Nothing to do with routing). A range extender is a purely wireless device that is set up at a useable range from another wireless access point or wireless router and relays the signal on. It needs no lan connection. Some access points can be used as range extenders or access points. Belkin make all there range extenders with access point use as an alternative. You best range is obtained with a range extender.
