Many years ago my cable company asked me not to use an electric signal booster.?
The cable company said that my signal booster could cause interference that could possibly compromise airline signals. Ever since then, I have been cautious about anything I do involving electricity. A plug was damaged on one of my cable boxes and I replaced it. I'm using the box now but still have fears of sending out a bad signal somehow and creating a problem. Can anyone educate me about signal interference?

- the cable company uses frequencies to distribute television that are assigned to other uses over the air. this is allowed because what is in the cable is suppossed to stay in the cable. the biggest concern for leakage is in the aeronautical band assignment and the FCC regularly inspects cable systems for these frequencies. the way for you to help prevent any problem is to be sure that each cable end has a termination, ie it goes to a TV set or box. you should not need an amp, even if you make several splits. if you find the cable service is too weak, then have them check it, as they may be below the minimum required service entry level. The biggest offender is the cable company themselves, they are too lazy to disconnect service promptly when people move or cancel service.
