How do you connect a signal booster to a wireless router?
I've seen many signal boosters advertised and I wanted to know how you connect them to a router. It seems to me that it is an antenna but on my Linksys router, I already have two. Do I unscrew the old antennas and connect the signal boosters, how does that work? The reason I ask is because the wireless signal is not strong enough to let me game online on my PS3. I've seen signal boosters and range expanders, and I just want to know how you would connect/install those.

- Some (not many) wireless routers with external antennae have standard size screw connectors that would allow better antennae to be added for longer range. They replacement antennae are more efficient and/or more directional, improving you signal reception. Before you spend money on something that may or may not help, try the following: 1) Imagine a direct line between your wireless router and the PS3. Is there anything massive in the way? Refrigerators, washers, bathtubs, brick walls, etc? Sometime all it takes is moving one or both ends (PS3/router) a few feet to get a less impaired signal accross. Using a wireless laptop or smartphone with WiFi might be easier than moving your PS3 around. 2) Log into the router and changing the channel. There are 11 channels available, but the overlap quite a bit. The default is 6, and often you're competing with other devices on that channel. Try channels 1 and 11 to see if you get a cleaner signal. This only needs to be done at the router end, the receiver will automatically pick up channel changes).
- Wireless booster used in Network backhaul...not at host end. You need to understand you are host in a network and Router is your CPE. Signal booster is transmission equipment used at backhaul antenna.
- Connect the PS3 with an ethernet cable or move the router closer to the PS3.
