How can you make your own wifi booster?

I know how to make the one where you make a satellite dish out of a Chinese strainer and a usb booster but how can make one without having any type of booster? Can you make your own antenna to plug into your laptop to boost your signal?

3. My personal preference, the one I currently use, is a modified Pringles (Yup, you read that right!) tube. I have included a coupla links to show that I am not completely crackers, only partially.
