Can a Wireless Network Range Expander (Signal Booster) be used without configuration to the router?
If i was to a get signal booster.. let'ssay the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander, will the network range be expanded without any configuration to the router? I just moved into a new house and the cable company says it may be up to 2 weeks before they can get out there.. and it's really hard without internet. My neighbor has an unsecured network but i usually only get 1-2 bars from it... Thanks

- I would suggest you wait for 2 weeks to be on the safer side. Unsecured network is pretty dangerous and it can lead you into serious problems as you do not know who owns the network. If you are eager to get online you can simply purchase a usb wireless dongle - they come in different prices ranging from 10,15 pound upwards.
- The only problem using an unsecured network is simply that - it is not secured (encrypted.) All data you send over the network, will be able to be seen (assuming they know how to do this.) Long story short, as long as you don't use confidential passwords (bank accounts for example) you should be fine. I would use the network.
- I would not recommend it. Some repeaters do not need to be configured with the router. Some simply receive a signal and send it back out. I would recommend you wait till the cable company comes out and save your money.
