Is there a wifi signal booster that can take a wireless signal and amplify it?
I need to boost a wifi signal to some dead areas but the problem is that I have no way to hook up a more powerful antenna or router directly to the network. Is there a device that will take the existing signal out of the air and amplify it?

- Yep, there are many such devices on the market. Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Wireless-G-Range-Expander-WRE54G/dp/B00021XIJW/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_0
- yes the easiest to use is an apple time capsule. it boosts the signal and gives you an extra 500gb of storage space on your network.
- If you are the person in charge of this router, there are two options. 1. Plug a wire into your wired network and put another wireless access point near your dead zones (even cheap-o routers can be used as a wireless AP if you configure it correctly). 2. Get a compatible wireless device that can extend your wireless network. Put is just outside the dead zone, so that it can talk to your other wireless router and set it to extend the network.
- The answer is no. The signal is no stronger than the output. There are range boosters but they are over rated. A larger outside antenna might help some but the wireless signal being broadcast is being sent from a device which has limited output.
- just use a Repeater and it will do the job for you ... either get a stand alone repeater or an access point and in the wireless mode configure it as a repeater or a universal repeater according to the brand you are using ... considering the configuration all you have to do is using the MAC address of the device you want to connect the repeater to ... in the right mode in the repeater ....
- You will need a Wifi repeater. like one is listed on following link. http://www.ohgizmo.com/2007/05/14/meraki-mini-cheap-wifi-repeater/
