How to get a wi-fi signal on XP?

Hi, my computer is fairly old, it's a Dell Dimension E510 desktop, and it will not pick up my router's wifi signal at all. I was using a wi-fi booster card (USB thingy) and it recently broke. I was wondering if I need to buy another one or if there's an easier way to connect to my router. The Wireless Zero Configuration setting does not help either. If anyone has any recommendations for a Wi-Fi booster please list them. If it helps, i use AT&T U-verse's default router, the 2WIRE series.
