Will a stronger TV signal booster help?
I have a free view box connected to an external TV aerial. There are some channels I can't receive. From reading information sites on the subject it would appear I can't get one of the 6 multiplexes Freeview channels are broadcast on. On the channels I do get the picture is strong, clear and without interference. I've tried a signal booster which enabled a reception on some missing channels but nowhere near a watchable reception. Other channels in the multiplex still had no reception at all. Will a stronger booster work?

- Signal boosters tend to be a waste of money, as they amplify a lot of the "noise" as well as the part of the signal you wanted. I wouldn't risk paying for one unless you could try it first.
- Boosters do not improve the signal received by your aerial. Check the web site below for a broader aspect of your problem.
- unlikely, though if it is that marginal it might work. You would be better trying a different freeview receiver.. some are much better than others (philips, Goodmans strangely) and avoid some of the cheaper ones. I am guessing Sony is pretty good also at the price. Also, check every cable and joint - preferably while watching the signal strength/quality indicator of the Frewview box status page (the philips is good) Amplifier/booster: I trust that this is a masthead type (PSU in the house, amp on the cable next to the aerial).. not an internal one. If not, you really need to use one.. to reduce boosting the noise as well as the weak signal. Other choices are improved aerial, higher gain and more directional. There are some new ones out, that claim to be for Freeview, I understand that they have some better vertical beam pattern, but not convinced that it is significantly needed over a typical good analogue installation. Good pure gain is useful. So depending how much you want to invest before cutover day (when all the signals come up to full power of the analogue levels now), you could look at paralleling up antenna's in a harness to get a few more dB. Thats about your lot. Option 2: get freestatfromsky.co.uk The payonce installation and 4 months of 4 pack, for 75 notes It falls back to Freesat after that, all that is Freeview and more.
