Which product should I buy to boost my wireless signal? Hi there, I've previously had advice on both of these types of products individually, but now I find myself asking which of these two products best suits what I need - a range extender to help boost my signal throughout my house or a directional/omnidirectional antenna to help focus my signal more clearly. Here are the specifics of my connection setup; A wireless netgear router through Virgin Media delivering speeds up to 20MB, without the option of installing phone lines (fibre optics instead). This wireless connection is needed to service 9 computers/laptops throughout our house. The router is confined to being kept in the kitchen on the bottom floor. Currently the two bottom floor bedrooms receive decent signal and the bedroom at the top of the first flight of stairs has ok signal too. However, the remaining six bedrooms in the house (3 middle, 3 top) get very little to no reception. Clearly we want to change this so that all 9 bedrooms individually recieve good wireless signal for average internet usage. We have three main options we are considering here to resolve our issue, it would be great if people could recommend which option was the best, or a combination of two, if any at all ! 1 - purchase a range extender/access point to be set up on the middle floor in the hope of boosting the wireless signal from the router throughout the entire house - the product I was considering purchasing was an Edimax EW-7416APn. It has pretty good reviews and seems to be cheaper than equally useful alternatives? 2 - Purchase some sort of antenna to be set up in the kitchen downstairs to focus the wireless signal upwards through the floor in the hope of extending the signal throughout the house. The product I had in mind was the ProSafeĀ® 7 DBI Omni-Directional Antenna from Netgear or something along those lines. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 3 - After a conversation with Virgin Media, they claim that our router can only provide signal for up to 4 computers anyway and suggested we upgrade to 50MB broadband which they claim will solve both problems. However, I don't actually believe that our current set-up will only provide for four computers anyway? Probably just trying to eek money out of us. Okay, those are the resolutions we have currently researched into. If anyone can recommend any of the above for our particular situation that would be great. On top of all of this, I myself have purchased two USB flashdrives from Netgear that are supposed to boost wireless signal pickup anyway; one for my laptop, one for my xbox. Not sure if those will work. We are all stumped, and being students, are too tight with cash to be experimenting on what option works the best. Thanks for reading all of this if you have, please leave anything you think may be useful to us!!

Can I boost the wireless card signal for my laptop? It has problems keeping the signal.? I use a Linksys 802.11 g wireless card to connect to the internet via wireless router. But my wireless card looses the signal about every 10 seconds, and is gone for a few seconds before coming back on again. This doesn't sound like much of a problem, but it can be really frustrating moving from one page to another, and I frequently loose e-mails when the signal continously goes out. I don't think a "wireless hotspot" or proximity to the router is the issue, because even when the computer and card is right next to the router, the signal still goes out. Is this a problem that can be fixed, and how?
Any way i can boost my wireless signal? Is there a way to boost the wireless signal from a DSL box to a PS3? OK, i play my ps3 online a lot, but the 50% signal strength and lag can get annoying. I am upstairs, the dsl box is downstairs and basically on the other side of the house, so the signal has to go through a wall or 2 and some solid objects (tv stand, counter, etc.) to reach the ps3. My dad is too stubborn to let me get a wired connection. "it'll look bad, it'll be everywhere, blah blah" But we had dial-up so we had to have a wire then and he had no complaints, i'd be able to run a wire to my room without it being in the way or even using staples or anyhting, but no, he's as stupporn as a mule, or donkey, whatever the saying is. Anyway, is there a way to boost the signal using wireless connection? i hate it when i lose connection or get really laggy because of wireless.

Can I use my laptop to boost my wireless signal? I know this sounds like a stupid question but I'm wanting to use my laptop to boost the wireless signal that it receives - does anyone know if there is any way to do this? Sorry all - I really didn't go in to enough detail there. I'll explain fully now. The problem is that for some reason I just cannot get the xbox to connect using my wireless network - I've tried everything. The way that I get round this is to connect my laptop to the wireless and then use an ethernet cable to connect my laptop to my xbox 360. I then share the wireless network connection and this allows the xbox to connect. However, even though signal remains good or better the xbox just randomly kicks me out of live matches - doesn't disconnect me from Live, just drops connection to the game (and kicks me out of a Live party if connected). The wireless network connection remains stable so I wondered if I'd get more success from somehow connecting the xbox to the laptop and using the connection that way - rather than using a LAN cable connected to a wireless network?

I want to connect to the city's wireless network, but the signal is too weak in my apartment. How to boost? I'm living in Madison WI, and while I can see the network, it's too weak to connect. Ideally I would like to be able to connect without plugging anything into my computer (maybe some device can amplify the wireless signal and then re-broadcast it through my apartment?) But this is not a requirement. Thanks :-)
