Wireless Repeaters Receiver Knowledge Base
A question about wireless repeaters? I was looking at http://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-Technology-Wireless-N-Essential-WHR-HP-G300N/dp/B002WBV2T8/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1299976232&sr=1-1 I would like to use it to hook up my TV, Xbox 360 and satellite box to the internet (all of which don't have WiFi receivers). I have a wifi router, but since these don't have receivers and I don't feel like running a bunch of cables through my house, I was wondering if this worked well for this. Or if there is a better solution? Thanks. And I love you all.
How to expand a wireless Network? We have a wireless network, but there is no coverage in certain parts of the building. We have BT Broadband, with a BT voyager modem & router. I thought it was possible to get a receiver/repeater (I don't know if they exist or what they are called) and put them in certain parts of the builing to expand the network. Does this exist? Is this a good idea? and Where can I buy such a thing? Thanks a lot!
Best home wireless setup for laptop gamer? Currently, I have a 2wire. It sucks and I'm going to scrap it once I can figure out what I'm doing. That said, I'd be using my laptop one floor up (pass insulation and several other range blockades) and 50 ft away from where the router/modem currently sits. Conditions *as of now, the signal doesn't even reach half way to my room *I don't have a phone line in my room to set up dsl *I don't have cable (but do I need it to use a cable modem)? *I need to be able to support 2 computers and 2 360s (unless there is a way to keep the 2wire on and let it support the one desktop and xbox wirelessly, and have a second modem/router support my room by itself) *I use to hook my xbox to my laptop because my 360 still doesn't have the wireless receiver. I'll buy one once I can get wireless to reach my room. *I've considered getting a repeater, but I've read so many problems with them dropping signals, and that's a "no no" for gamers. (unless you know of a repeater that has never had that problem with a 2wire) *If I do go wired with my laptop in my room, what can I use that will not require a phone line? What does it need? Other than xbox, I play mmorpgs, so I need a reliable connection that won't lag or drop. Even when I had a linksys G, I ran into that problem. Now, I can barely play the games unless I'm hooked up to the modem, making my laptop's wireless capabilities all but useless. I've read some things about hooking up a modem directly to your computer. What would I need for that setup? What has worked best for you? Furthermore, I'm pretty much a moron when it comes to technical jargon so I really need plain english, or at least links to clear definitions of those techy-terms.
Can you have a single wireless network with multiple access points? I have a 4 port wireless g dlink router, and im considering getting 2 compatable dlink access points My intention is to basiclly setup a triangle of wireless receivers around my house so i will always have good signal wherever I go. I will have the main router in one spot, and 2 wireless access points in 2 different spots. I plan on having thoes 2 AP's wired into the router using 2 of the ports. My question is will this create a singular wireless network throughout the whole house utilizing all 3 receivers? Or will they conflict with eachother and not work at all? or will they all have to be seperatly configured making 3 different networks the computer has to choose from? To note: im not interested in repeaters, I want the AP's to be wired so there is no signal degradation or half bandwidth. I also know wireless N is better, but should i upgrade to that i would want to do the same thing to make a ridiculously good signal either way.
How can I better receive a distant wireless signal? I'm in an RV parked on a friend's property, but his wi-fi signal doesn't reach me well enough to use it reliably. We tried making an antenna reflector to go on his router, but it didn't make any noticeable difference. Neither of us has much cash to spend, especially since this is only a temporary situation. What's the best device to buy (repeater, receiver booster, transmission booster, high output router antenna, etc.), and what brand and model? I don't really want to spend over about $20 if possible, and in a perfect world, it would be something I could take with me for receiving wi-fi signals in other places. I know some devices work and some don't so please be specific, if you can. SPKR-- Can you clarify for me? the Alfa adapter picks up OTHER signals right-- it's not a booster or router that needs a modem to work from. It picks up the signal from other wi-fi routers, right? Does it plug in in the house/RV/boat, then run a cable to the USB port on the laptop, or can the laptop still be wireless? The wi-fi signal that I'm trying to connect to is my friend's, so I don't want to buy something to replace his router, or that I have to leave for him. I want to make sure it works from the laptop end, not his router's end (if that makes any sense). I can't replace his router or anything like that. Benny-- that looks like you copied the specs from an ad or something. Can you explain just what that is?
Looking for a wireless hdmi transmitter that supports multiple receivers? Looking for a quality wifi hdmi transmitter that will allow me to connect three receivers, so I can control one cable box from 3 different tvs in my home. Transmitter - must haves - 1. Hdmi input 2. Wifi 3. IR (infrared) repeater 4. Supports multiple receivers at least 3 5. (optional). Would love if I could access from my home network. So I can record tv to my pc with windows media center. Receivers 1. Hdmi output 2. Wifi 3. IR ( infrared) receiver - so I can control the cable box from each room with a Logitech harmony 700 remote. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks Budget. I'm hoping to get transmitter and 3 receivers for less then $500.
I have a question about wireless networking? I have a Netgear DG834G ADSL Modem/Router. Unfortunately the signal strength is not very good upstairs. Considering I need the modem, what would be my best option for getting a better wireless signal. Should I get a repeater or should I get a better wireless router and use the Netgear only for the modem? Whatever I do, what will I need to do for configuration? For what it's worth, my computer and DirecTV receiver use the wired connection to the modem. Then I have at least 4 wireless devices - 2 Roku players, my BlackBerry, and my Wii. My desktop does not have a wireless card. Therefore my modem/router needs to be close to the desktop which is downstairs.
Is wireless good or bad or easy to eavesdrop ? I hear wireless is full of problems it is easy to eavesdrop and see what one is doing .Is this true ? How do you make sure people on your street are not going to eavesdrop ? And if one get a repeater do to low signal strength can people eavesdrop easy? Also the s-meter is saying strength strength 4 of 5 is that good or bad? How reliable is the S-meter? Should one get a professionale S-meter? It uses a radio wave so if they have a receiver they do not need your router or your computer they just pick up want is transmitted over the radio wave. Interface between Apple TV unit and receiver? My father-in-law is considering buying an Apple TV unit and is wondering whether his receiver remote will be able to operate the Apple unit or vice versa. The receiver is an Onkyo TX-SR608 with the HDMI inputs. Also, he is planning to buy it because he wants to digitize his audio library onto his home network and wants to be able to access it from the Apple TV unit to play his selected playlists. Does anyone see a problem with being able to do this? Lastly, he is having problems with Wi-Fi reception in his living room, so wireless is a problem. We are thinking that going wired to the router may be the best route over a repeater which would cut his bandwidth in half. He doesn't stream video (yet) but that is a possibility, but to wire it would require about a 150 foot run from the router. I know from past experience that the most you can get out of Cat 5 is about 100 meters, so we're running a little less than half that; but we're gonna have to get some good quality Cat 5 for the run. Any suggestions?
Extending Wireless Network Outdoors? My wireless network works great throughout my apartment, with the exception of my outside porch. I believe that my steel exterior door is causing the interference, the reason I know (other than the fact that it's a steel door) is that I did an internet speed test on the inside of the door and outside on my porch and had a significant drop in speed. I am trying to figure out the best solution to boost the signal. If I put some sort of repeater in the room on the inside of the door, will that be enough for the signal to travel through the outside wall? Is there some way to drill a small hole through the house and run a wire antenna from the inside out, and place the receiver right on the porch??
Wirless Router / Repeater in Car? I am setting up i wireless network in the back of my car. I can access the router with my laptop. I want to setup a wireless receiver also in the car so i can use my router kind of as a repeater. The only problem is that if i connect that to my router then i cant choose which network for the receiver to connect to. I would have to go to my car, disconnect the receiver, connect it to my laptop, configure it, and reconnect it to the router, then reconnect to my network. I would have to do this for every network i connect to. Would it be possible for me to be able to connect to my cars network and, through the router connect to a network with that wireless adapter, without having to get up and reconnect it manually.

How can I set up my internet to my ps3 if my internet doesn't reach the whole house? I live in the backhouse of my place of residence. The router is in the main part of the house. The internet is too weak to reach the end of the backyard which is where the backhouse is. I have heard of signal repeaters but I'm not quite satisfied with using wireless to connect my ps3 online. I usually use a cable. I cannot run a cable all the way from the main house through the backyard and to the backhouse. Is there some sort of receiver that exists that I can install in my room and connect my ethernet cable from that?
Does a wireless repeater really work? _I have an independent room a bit far from the main house, were my modem is. The rare times I get signal is really low, so I was wondering if buying a wireless repeater/receiver would work. IF so, which model should I buy? I have an orange livebox.
