Can i place the Cisco 1130Ag wireless access point in a corridor having closed offices? I have closed offices with a common corridor. i want to place the Cisco 1130AG wireless access point at the corridor so that all offices can share the Internet. After setting up a Cisco Wireless Access Point as the WDS, can that AP still associate clients? Not so keen on the idea of have an AP serve as the WDS/RADIUS server and not be able to do double duty as a "normal" AP. Speaking of a 1240AG in particular...
I have a Cisco Wireless Access Point that needs a RJ45 to DB9 Serial connector. What is the pinout? I bought an adapter, but according to the gentleman at the store, there is no standard pinout for the ethernet-serial adapter. So I was wondering if the "DB9" serial was a standard pinout that I could use. I'm using this to connect to the "Console" ethernet port on the Cisco Aironet 1200 Series to reset and configure the wireless access point. Thanks! I am just learning this as I go. My company lost the cables and want me to try to configure the wireless access point without it. I bought a adapter and found a standard pinout based on the color of the wires. They were: 1Blue 2Orange 3Black 4Red 5Green 6Yellow 7Brown 8White So I connected those wires to the pin numbers on the serial side of the adapter. Is this correct?
Cisco Wireless Access Point can't ping or be pinged? What would cause a Cisco WAP to be perfectly functional besides the fact that you can't ping it, and from the con line can't ping anything outside it? The WAPs all go through 2950/3550s... look on the switch for an ping deny statement? What would it look like?
Why does my cisco access point change between green and blue? I attend a university, and I have a wireless access point in my room. Sometimes the light circle is blue, and other times it is green. What do these colors mean? There is nothing wrong at all, I am just curious as to why the colors change. thanks
How do I enable the wireless in a Cisco Aironet access point? This is 1200 series Cisco systems AP which is shipped with the wireless disabled, I have only laptop at my disposal. I have tried to communicate with it using it's supplied ethernet cable but either my laptop does not see it or it does not respond. I have the small hand book that comes with it so I do know all the default settings.

Disable telnet access on a 1130 Cisco AP? Just wondering if there was any sort of simple command to disallow telnet access to a Cisco Wireless Access point or Switch. Hoping I don't have to do anything with ACLs or blocking port 23 by some other means...
What is the BEST Wireless Access Point? I need a top of the line, quality, Wireless Access Point with the ability to run 128-bit encryption. I DO NOT need a Wireless Router, basically, just a Wireless Hub. I am currently using a Cisco 4800, but it is starting to act flakey and after spending $1675 on it several years ago, I do not want a WAP like it again. I need something less expensive, but SOLID AS A ROCK. Anyone have any ideas? Please, if you are able, post a link to the PDF for the WAP in your answer if you don't care to. Thanks.
Resetting a Cisco wireless AP 350? Ok, I found an old Cisco wireless access point (Aironet 350 AP352E2C) and was wondering how I can reset it? It shows up as an “Unnamed Network” whenever I try to scan for wireless networks and when I try to connect to it, it asks me for a Name or SSID. I tried all kinds of variations of Cisco with & without the model number and also unnamed network but I just can connect. I also tried 10.0.0.1, which I think is the default IP, and it comes back as if nothing was assigned that IP. I need to reset it and try a new configuration, any ideas?
How to configure Wireless access point? I have four cisco 1250 access point in my office located in four different floors. The WEP key is same for all of the access point. But the names are different like floor_1, floor_2 and so on. The problem is whenever a user goes to 1st floor to 2nd floor the user got disconnected and need to reconnect to get internet service or LAN service. I would like to configure all these access point as a single unit with a unique name and WEP key so that wherever the user goes he/she will not be disconnected any more and need not to reconnect again and again. How to do that????
Wireless access point configuration failed? i am working in a co. where more than 25 PC's are in a LAN with a domain network. We have win 2000 server for application, maintaining accounts and ISA server for internet security. I've "Cisco Aironet 1200 series" wireless access point & i need to connect this to my existing LAN network.i tried with these procedures 1st. My PC is in a same network so i took another straight cable from the switch and gave it to access point so that this could be a part of my network.By using I.E i am trying to access it with the given website in the manual ie. 172.170.255.115 and the default website is 10.0.0.1.But i unable to access it 2nd. By using cross over cable i directly connected my pc with the access point and try to access with the above IP address but still i unable to access it. 3rd. I put my PC ip add. with access point range ie. 172.17.255.116. & try with both direct cable from switch and cross over cable with access point. but i failed. can anyone guide me wht to be done?
Is there an Access Point from Cisco that is Intrinsically Safe? I am adding AP's to a building with explosion proof needs. They are a Cisco controller based building that has 9 off site wireless controllers and I need to add Cisco AP's that are intrinsically safe. Thoughts? Cisco 1250?
How many users per wireless access point? I'm wondering about how many users can you put on a single wireless access point realistically. I understand that with IP addresses and all and using a single class C network you can get up to 254 users; and this is if you're not using x.x.x.1 for the router or any others for access points. (x.x.x.255 is reserved for broadcast). I've heard numbers as low as 20 users per access point and as high as 60 per access point. I would imagine this number differs depending on what access point we're talking about too. Specifically I'm trying to figure it out for both a Cisco Aironet 1231 and a Cisco Aironet 1252.
Wireless Access Point / Signal Enhancement? I have a bit of a project ahead of me I'm looking to Increase my Wireless signal. Being in a Basement apartment causes some grief with this issue. Now My hope is to do this for under 100$ FREE being better I have two extra routers to work with a D-Link WBR 1310 and a TRENDnet tew-432brp Now I know their old and Junk (TRENDnet) So , I was hoping to turn one of them into a Repeater , Access point, something to enhance my signal to increase my Connection for both my PC's. Any ideas on how to do this? My Primary Router is a Wirless N Cisco My end hope is to achieve at least a 80-100% connection rate for my apartment depending on my location of course. Something Gaming worthy , Stream Worthy and more importantly Backup worthy. I daily back up to an off site server I have. I welcome all Ideas, options , and Theory's alike. More then willing to attempt them. Thanks in Advance Well unfortunately the Wireless N has no external Antenna , nor does it have the ability to add one it seems. I need a situation that has no wires. This is why it's more then a typical project for me. So , unfortunately I Won't be able to use any wires with this.. My hope was to get the Wireless N to connect to one of the Standard Routers and then (essentially) bounce the signal from the router to my PC's and any other things.. Gaming Consoles etc.. So Main Floor Wireless N ---> Router G in Basement ---> PC(s)
How to do a reset on a Cisco Aironet WAP (AIR-AP350)? I bought a Cisco Aironet Wireless Access Point last year and just got to installing it. The problem is that I do not know the password (using the Terminal). I know the currnet IP, but I don't have the password. Is there anyway to force a reset without knowing this information? It is a used item, so it has old info on it. I cannot contact the previous owner because I lost that information. I'll take the thing apart if I have to and change a jumper if that's required. Please send me any suggestions that you might have.

What is the best way to setup a wireless network with several access points to give uninterrupted connectivity? I know there are routers and access points by Cisco that can provide this functionality but id there any other way of doing this. The aim is to have several access points so that a connected device can switch between these access points when the signal quality degrades and connect to a point with better signal quality without interrupting the connection.

Expanding the Range of my Wireless Network? I currently have a Cisco E3000 but I am looking to improve the wireless range of the network for the entire area. What would be some available options I could pursue to strengthen my network. I was currently looking at a Cisco WAP4410N Wireless-N Access Point - PoE/Advanced Security. Would this be the correct method in expanding my network? Thanks.
What is the difference in a cisco aironet 340 series workgroup bridge and access point? I work for a non-profit organization and recieved a cisco system through donation and have no idea how to use it. If someone could help I'm trying to get wireless internet across a summer camp.
Cisco Clean Access Agent and Ad-hoc? I'm trying to turn my Asus Eee 904HA into a wireless access point by creating an ad-hoc network, but my school uses this program called Clean Access Agent that won't let me connect to the internet if I enable network sharing. Is there any way to get around this? I can provide more information if necessary.
Problem with connecting a cisco linksys wireless router to a dsl modem? So i finally got a dsl modem to work for me, direct ethernet line to my desktop through much deliberation with tech support. Now i am trying to make it wireless with a router i previously had. I simply connected the router to the modem thinking it would create a wireless access point and it did, with the same old password. However when i connect, the internet will not work and it will pop up a system message that says something about a duplicate name being on the network. Any ideas on why this might be happening? Should i contact tech support again? In order to configure the modem i had to enter username and password, after that the internet worked for me nonstop. Due to the router previously belonging to my girlfriend and my lack of knowledge about it i have no clue (however i could google it and find out how) to access the router page or the password to the page...Which if i recall when i tried to do that the first time i could not for the life of me figure out the password between myself and her.
Can I access wireless internet using a wireless router? I’m not sure that my title is clear or not, so here is my question: I just moved to a new apartment, and after a quick WLAN search on my laptop, I found out that I have a few open & free Wireless LANs in my neighborhood (YAY! :D). So currently, I access internet on my laptop and cell phone using these networks. Now, I want to kind of expand my home wireless network using the access point feature on one of these wireless routers (Cisco-Linksys WRT54G2 or Cisco-Linksys WRT54GL). Here is how: I want to have internet on my Belkin Desktop Skype Phone. It has an Ethernet port on it, and I am going to connect it to the router. I want to connect my Western Digital WD TV Live to both internet and my laptop. Again, it has an Ethernet port on it, so I want to connect it to my router using a RJ45 cable. Moreover, by using the access point feature on the router I want to access internet, and I also want to stream video files from my laptop (which will be connected to router wirelessly as well). Lastly, will I be able to use my printer from my laptop (it has wireless capability)? I’m pretty sure that I can do that anyway… I am not so familiar with wireless routers and networking, so is it doable? I’d appreciate your help :-) ;-) P.S. Which router do you recommend for this matter? To people who thinks I'm stealing: (1) I asked my next door neighbor and he said it's OK if I use his wireless connection! Plus, (2) I don't do hard-core downloading or video streaming or anything!!! I only check my emails and make Skype phone calls! Also, (3) according to state law it's not stealing if the network is not locked! So, please either help, or pass this question! THX A- streaming video => I am going to stream video on my hdtv from my laptop! i'm not going to use internet for this matter!!! B- i am friend with my neighbor and he knows that i'm using his wifi!!!
need a walk thought on connecting 2 wireless routers together one is already an access point? its from a dlink to a cisco that is changfrom a router to a access point
We're hiring a network engineer. We want to setup a lab test for the candidates. Any ideas of what to include? What we'd like to do is have a couple Cisco switches, wireless access points and some other equipment, just enough to put the candidates in a position where they will need to resolve an issue, or just configure the equipment. We'd like to know what would be a good scenario to present to them. We'd like to keep the equipment needed to maybe 4 devices, at most. We'd like to have them setup VLANs and such. We've just never had to go through this and don't want to hire someone who looks good on paper, talks a good game and then we're stuck with a snake oil merchant who can't deliver the goods. Thank you all!
I'm installing a permanent wireless network at home, a good one.? Is the Cisco 850 Series router (851 to be exact) a good one to go along with the Cisco1130AG wireless access point? I already have the Cicso access point wired and ready to go. All I need is the router, is the above mentioned a good one?
Access point with switch and server? I have a friend that operates a small non profit. He wants to introduce wireless into the work area. Would plugging in an access point on a 24 port Cisco switch that's connected to the server work?
Is it smart to deploy a Cisco wireless N solution to my manufacturing facility with a few wired just in case? I'm thinking about deploying a wireless 802.11n solution in one of my branch locations, with only a few computer stations actually wired in case of an outage. I'm thinking about 1142 series access points, a couple wireless lan controllers (for load balancing and redundancy). I've heard N is really good at avoiding wireless interference and the speeds rival connected LAN speeds. Anyone have any experience with this, or advice?
What piece of hardware do I need to run multiple computers hardwired to a single wireless connection (hub?)? I have multiple computers downstairs in my home that currently each have a wireless card in them. I'm tired of dealing with all of the wireless issues on each system (2 PCs and one mac). Is there anything like a wireless "hub" that would allow me to configure the wireless access in a single device and then network each of the computers using Cat5 cable into the the wireless hub/access point? Can anybody point me to such a device. Again, I am currently running a wireless network (802.11g) and am using a Linksys/Cisco WRT110 wireless router upstairs in my home. It's just the downstairs computers I want to have internet access but I'd like the wireless access to go through a single hub/access point. If you could point me to the appropriate hardware it would be appreciated. Again...I already have a wireless router upstairs in my office connected to my cable modem. However, the computers I want to hardwire are downstairs and I don't want to run cable all the way upstairs. I just want to put a single wireless device downstairs that I can connect the three computers to with cat5 cable.

But my senior said that though our college server is blocking certain websites, if we could get connection to it, we can hack it. How to do it? Going through each time via cakebird.com is annoying and my seniors said that in the server they are giving wi-fi connection based on bandwidth like only 10mb/sec for each computer. Connecting a dated Motorola Ethernet Bridge to a new Cisco Valet wireless router? Okay, so we just hooked up a new cisco valet N router, to replace the older dlink one we had. Unfortunately, my old Motorola Ethernet Bridge doesn't seem to want to connect to it. Could I use the old router as like an access point? Or possibly as a makeshift ethernet adapter? While on the phone with cisco tech support, it seemed like they could connect it, but they wanted to charge me a fee that I cannot justify spending the money on. It would make more sense just to buy a brand new adapter, but I would like to avoid spending that money right now. Is there any way I could do this for free using either the Ethernet Bridge or the old wireless router as an adapter?
Help! I cant connect internet to my wii!? I am trying to get Internet on my wii, but when I try to connect my wii gives the error code 52030. I have a 5 port 10/100 Mbps Switch F5605 Netgear modem hooked up to a Cisco Aironet 1100 Wireless access point. Help!
How to know the IP address from a WAP to configure it? Greetings, I have a WAP (Wireless Access Point or wireless router) connected to a port of a switch cisco manageable. I know which port belongs to the WAP, but I don't know what is its IP address to configure it. NOTE: I don't want to desconnect the equipment from the LAN in order to using ifgconfig (ubuntu user). I can't interrupt the service.
Linksys by Cisco WRT160n.? I have a WRT160n linksys by cisco router, recently installed... Now i set it up using the CD that came in the box. WHen i try to connect to it wirelessly, it simply says windows did not recieve any response from the wireless access point/router. I have a dell xps m1330 with windows vista buissness... Colanth, i had to install the software to the computer so i could set up the router, unfourtunatly the router doesnt have a keyboard and screen. and i am keeping security on it no matter what because i dont want neighbors freeloading off of it.
Wireless bridging between a 2wire 2700HG-E & Cisco ap1200? Hi, Am trying to see if I can extend our home LAN and bridge a 2wire access point with a cisco ap1220, I'ved tried a few things (matching ssid, adding parent(2wire) mac address and adding the same 10digit/40bit wep custom 2wire key) but all am getting: "DOT11-2-UPLINK_FAILED: Uplink to parent failed: Unsupport ed authentication type" - Any ideas? or is it not possible with these two bits of hardware. You are connected to the access point, but the internet cannot be found? I've been having problems with my wireless router lately. I have Cisco Linksys WRT54G wireless router hooked up to the main computer and I have a desktop computer in another room that has a USB Network Adapter from Linksys hooked up to it and it uses the main router hooked up to the main computer. Recently it stopped working for some reason and when I try to connect on Linksys, it tells me that "You are connected to the access point, but the internet cannot be found." I don't know what this means, but I've tried various ways to fix it and even called tech support and all that and nothing solved the problem. Now on the desktop computer that connects through the main router says it cannot connect to the access point. I don't know if there may be a problem with the main router or what, but we've tried a different router from a family member and it wouldn't work. We also have a laptop that connects through the main wireless router that also has the same problem and won't connect to the internet. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Wireless internet trouble? Okay, so I have an HP dv41220 laptop and I have wireless internet from a Linksys Cisco router. 2 days ago, I had no trouble getting on the internet. Just yesterday morning my laptop lost its connection to the internet. My roommate can get on wirelessly and so can my friends girlfriend from their computers. He has a desktop and she has a laptop. I can get on the internet when I am directly connected to the router but when I try to go wireless my router doesn't even show up under the wireless access points. I can't figure out why it's doing this. I have already tried going under the router site (192.168.1.1) but there was no success to this. Any ideas?
My Dell Inspiron 1525 wont connect to my wireless network.? Every time I try to connect to my wireless it says windows cannot connect. I try and diagonse and it says "Wireless association failed because windows did not recieve any response from the wireless router or access point." It then give's me the options "click for information on troubleshooting low wireless signal quality problems" and "View available wireless networks". The signal strength is not low and it is being detected at full strength but for some reason it try's to connect for like .5 seconds and just gives up. I can connect to other connections however they require password(so does mine but I dont even get option to put it n because it wont connect to it). It has done this before and gone away after system restore and diagnose and repair but system repair didnt fix it and I cannot attempt to repair unless I have limited connectivity. I use a surfboard sb3100 cable modem for ethernet cable connection which works perfect in my home office and connect it to a Cisco Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router to broadcast signal. Both appear to be working optimally and signal is being broadcasted with max strength but still cannot connect t it. PLEASE HELP ASAP!!! My connection has a password for it that is not the problem...
needing wireless info? I am starting a new job soon and is looking for some good info on configuring access points and wireless routers preferably cisco is there anyone out there that might have some good sites or tutorial dealing with access points and wireless routers
small business network with internet access? Hello, a friend of mine owns a restaurant, and since I'm in networking program (just finished CCNA1,2) and am in third chapter of ccna3, he asked me to rebuilt his network, which seemed like a pretty easy task, until I came upon this problem that no one ever mentioned in CCNA. So he's got 16 computers that I connected together with cisco 2960 switch, also to the same switch I plugged in two wireless access points for customers in restaurant... now he has an internet connection that is a DSL and has a bandwith of 6Mbps, how do I go from the current setup of this LAN to the DSL modem without suffering a huge bottleneck? (I still have 6 fast ethernet ports and 2 gigabit ethernet ports available on my switch) .. also I would like to put the in-restaurant traffic on separate VLAN from the wirless customer traffic. Obviously with ccna 3 knowledge i know how to do this, but I can't really figure out the way to give both these vlans internet access without using multiple routers or level 3 switch?... I just realized there are so many practical life scenarios that they dont teach you in ccna... Please if you have any solutions about how to setup this network it would be very highly appreciated. Thank You.
Linksys BEFSR81 Router (version 3) will fail with all port LEDs turned on? I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 cable modem that is then connected to a BEFSR81 8-port router. After resetting the router (unplugging it for approx. 20 seconds and plugging it back in), all is good. I have LEDs lit up only for the ports that are being used. Every night something happens and the router locks up. When I look at it, all the port LEDs are lit. I reset it and all is good again. I have had it in use for at least two years and this just started approximately a month ago. At first I thought it was an ISP problem and the cable modem was causing the problem. However I was able to eliminate that as the culprit and have been focusing on the router. I updated the firmware to the latest on Linksys website v2.51.4 (Dec 30, 2008) but this made no difference. I started logging to see what is happening to cause it to lock up. I can't find anything on any website about the router working and then locking up with all the port LEDs lit (and being able to reset the router to allow it to work again). Beyond the router is a desktop (wired connection) and a laptop. The laptop is connected (wireless connection) via a Cisco Access Point (AP350). The Cisco Access Point is a wired connection back to the router. So there are only two ports in use (one to the desktop and one to the access point). When working, the router has only two port LEDs lit. When it fails, all the ports' LEDs are lit. I haven't found any problems with the hardware beyond the router either. I am hoping turning the logs on will show some information but if anyone has ever had this occur or if anyone has an idea why this is happening nightly, please let me know.

Wireless router gives out the wrong IP addresses.? At my company we just installed CISCO Access Points around the building, the issue is that we also have 2 fairpoint westell routers that do have dhcp enabled. The cisco devices all have static IP addresses and are part of the correct subnet. When I connect with my machine the connection is fine and everything works. When I try to connect other clients to the cisco access points they are given the wrong class of IP address and cannot access our resources that are one the other subnet. If I turn off dhcp on the westell routers then the cisco devices will not issue any IP address at all to the rest of the clients. Can someone explain why this is happening and tell me how I can stop the Cisco routers from obtaining IP address from the westells? thanks.
I have a lynksys Cisco router. I have it hooked up properly to my cable modem and computer...? I have an Intel Pentium 4 with Windows Vista in another room which has wireless networking built into it. Somehow, it can't find any wireless signals except one that says broadband something or other. I click connect to that and it can't. Also it can't diagnose the problem. I know the name of my network, and it never shows up when I search for wireless access points. I believe I need to install new drivers. I clicked on wireless networks on the computer I'm trying to get internet acces on, and it says all drivers are updated. I need a link to find the drivers that I need so that I can find and connect to my wireless router. Thanks!

How do i configure my D-Link router to act as an access point on a network that requires a static ip address? I am trying to add wireless connectivity to my work network in order to get internet access to my laptop. They have a Cisco router with a switch connecting all of the machines to the internet. The machines are required to have a static ip. I want to use my D-Link wireless router/ap to add wireless connectivity to the network for my laptop. How do i need to configure my router so that it can reach the internet without causing any conflicts with the network setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If i set my router's WAN address to a static ip within the range of the network and connect it like that what will happen?
Hey, I am working on my own laptop, everything is basically working except for my wireless connection? now i wouldn't be as stressed about this if there weren't so many weird symptoms. i suspect that some type of virus has damaged or re configured my host file. # 1 i want to accept DHCP it won't allow me to because it assigns me APIPA addresses, there is a way to change this setting, i am familiar with the registry edit but before i do that is there another way?, I have Access Connections, Zero Config (ofcourse), and a Belkin software interface, (NIC is Belkin), At first i used Zero Config and that really worked for me, then suddenly i began to get a the icon that appears in the toolbar a computer with the link light flashing only thing my light is not flashing, i am sending packets and no one receives them and I never get a DNS or IP assignment from DHCP. I really dought if it's the card, i have set up a wireless network, 2 cisco 871W wireless routers, my card recognizes the access points but still doesn't receive proper addressing i suspect malware, does anyone know what i could do?
Need to pick APs for a hospitality wireless solution, but don't know wether to go cheap or go Cisco. Thanks! I need to design a hospitality wireless solution. I need at least three devices, with one acting as a router and the other two acting as access points. I need to inject power over ethernet, because the access points need to be placed in the plenum. I just don't know whether to buy something very cheap, or go all out and buy cisco. I read somewhere it was said that nobody ever lost their job for buying Cisco. I don't want to be that way, but if its the best, then thats that. Any suggestions? thanks again chris
How do I surf the internet from my N91? I have a Nokia N91 that's fairly functional. I also have a wireless Linksys router from Cisco. When i connect to it using my phone it prompts the WEP key, which i input. It then loads the relevant Homepage, but from there it doesn't go any further. I even tried my best to fiddle through the Access Point settings on the phone itself and match it the router's settings such as Infrastructure, Data bearer, Network status etc. I keep getting the same problem. Even stranger is i have no problem accessing Wireless Access Points elsewhere. But i can't even connect to my own! Someone please help...
Where can I get these RJ-11 connectors? Hello, I have a project for a client where I have to install Wireless Access Points with antennas. The problem is that the antenna is far from the access point, so we must use a strong enough cable (RJ-11) so that we don't lose quality. I am having difficulty finding the connectors for the Cable. The equipment being used is: http://cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6521/tsd_products_support_series_home.html The antenna being used is as AIR-ANT1728 found at: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps7183/ps469/product_data_sheet09186a008022b11b_ps6521_Products_Data_Sheet.html We are using an RJ-11 cable to connect these two, but need to find out where we can get the connectors. The connectors are called RP-TNC. Below are links to pictures of both ends of the connectors from an original Cisco cable.: http://i27.tinypic.com/5fq74i.jpg http://i26.tinypic.com/15hixs5.jpg http://i27.tinypic.com/6jdo38.jpg http://i32.tinypic.com/2pzmpg0.jpg http://i26.tinypic.com/9unclw.jpg http://i30.tinypic.com/20hobc9.jpg http://i26.tinypic.com/242u89t.jpg I need to find out what store we can buy the connectors and crimper from. Thanks
Can you set up multiple wireless access points in a home all with same SSID? HI i#I have been asked by my boss to install 3 Cisco Aironet AP (1041) in a very large home. They will be connected to a switch(POE) which will connect to the router. My main point is do I need to have separate SSIDs for each AP? we are not setting up a roaming profile on them, instead he just wants a laptop to have access anywhere in the large property. Any ideas?
Need help with wireless home network! What do i need to buy? Ok i need to figure out what I need to use to make my internet reach my pool house at my new house. Here is what I have. I have a 3000 squ ft. house with a pool house that is about 250 ft from the back of my hosue. I need a way of getting the internet into my pool house. I talked to linksys and they said that I needed some products from Cisco but Cisco does not have any customer support to tell you what you need. I was wondering if they made a range extender that i could connect to my current wireless dsl modem. Then If they made an acces point or something that could pick up the signal in my pool house. I could then just connect another wireless router to my access point so that I could have internet through out my pool house. I know they make 2.4ghz and 5ghz range extenders I could just use the range extender and acces point on a diff frequency to avoid any interference. Thanks, I hope soemone can help me! I thought a bridge could not connect to another bridge. I thought a bridge could only connect to a modem/router. so if i take lets say my wireless dsl modem in my house and plug a wet610n wireless-n bridge into it and have another wet610 wireless-n bridge in my pool house connected to a wrt300n wireless router. by doing this I would be able to connect the twop bridge together and have the signal transferred fine? note* I can proably get my two bridges with 200 feet of each other. Think that would take care of it? Thanks, Doug
wifi antenna with wifi AC? I am a college student who is moving off campus and was trying to amplify the wifi signal to my house which is 530 feet away from the on campus apartments, which provide wireless internet. there are trees that obstruct the line of sight, but no buildings I found plans to build an antenna here and fix it on the roof http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/15/how-to-build-a-wifi-biquad-dish-antenna/2#comments i plan on connecting it to this access point (which will be sitting in a vented tupperware box next to the antenna (so it will be waterproof, not a problem), and then connecting a second AC using an ethernet cable which will be in the house so we can get better signal inside without loosing gain by having a long antenna wire. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833156159 the question I had was: will we be able to get signal from one of the cisco access points inside the building to the antenna, and through the 2 other access points? right now, in order to connect my laptop to the school wireless internet, I have to open a web browser and log in using the student account.
Home Network Switch layout? I am looking for ideas for a network switch layout for my home network. currently running from DSL to linksys wireless router. I would prefer to go to something bigger but I don't want to break my bank. I like the idea of going from the DSL to a standalone cisco firewall, but cant find one in a low price range, then following down to an 8 port cisco switch. one of the ports on the 8 port switch feeding a wireless access point which would be secured. I played with the idea of DD-WRT but again limited to only 4 ports. some ideas of equipment to use would be helpful, I have a budget so not wanting to spend $10,000 on something that should be able to be purchased for $300 or less.
Internet Connection w/Active Directory Home Network? I hope I can make this short enough but still be clear. A non-profit org wanted to have a network where users have to log in to gain access to resources. Active Directory…easy choice. Next, they obtained Internet connectivity, but wanted the users to have to log into the network to use the internet. Here is the setup: There is one switch (SW1) and one Domain controller (DC1). DHCP is running on DC1. There is a wireless access point connected to SW1 so users can log in wirelessly. The problem arises when I’m trying to set it up where users MUST log into the domain to gain access to the Internet. If I plug the DSL router directly into the switch, then a user would be able to simply log in locally to the computer instead of the domain and since he has an IP address, gain access to the Internet. As far as I know, I can’t use ICS in an AD environment. I tried putting another NIC in the DC and connecting the DSL router to it, but there was no way I could get the NICs to talk to one another (they were both the same subnet). This seems like (and probably is) as simple solution, but it is escaping me on how to do this. BTW, the DSL router is running NAT and is on the same subnet with the rest of the devices. Using ISA or other proxy server is not preferred. Hopefully, there are some certified Cisco or MS certified folks out there that can help. The Sonicwall sounds like a nice solution. But keep in mind this is a SMALL non-profit org. Money is a factor and if there is a no-cost/inexpensive way to pull this off, it is preferred. But I will inquire about the product.
NAT Help needed!!! (from networking experts, if possible)? Can a strict NAT negatively affect the range, bandwidth, efficiency, etc. of a medium-sized network? Here's what I'm working with: - 3-4 Cisco Catalyst 2950 Desktop switches - 2 Linksys Wireless Access points - very many clients (some wired (xboxes), some wireless (Macs, PCs) suffering from weak network stability I've been trying to figure out the source of our network issues, and I think its an NAT issue, but I'm not certain. Any help would be monumental. Thanks a lot! that's definitely a possibility. do you have any links that could help me out in figuring out if that is the problem after all?
What is Dedicated Internet Access and how much should I pay for it? I'm opening a gift shop in the lobby of a new office building. I need to have at least one voice line, a line for my merchant equipment (to process credit cards, etc.) and an Internet connection. I have a POS system, an interactive Kiosk and a laptop (all are wireless). I got a quote today for "Dedicated Internet Access" with a Bandwidth of 256 Kbps for $239/month and a setup charge of $600. It also includes a router for $50/month with a setup charge of $300. They also gave me the alternative of purchasing a router from another company. Those guys just sent me a quote for a Cisco T Modular Router, a WAN Interface card and an Airlink Access Point/Super G/2.4 gz for $840.27. I'm just so confused right now...I don't know what I need!!! Please Help!
Simple wireless home LAN connection issue.. :(? This is embarrasing, I'm meant to be Cisco cirtified, CCNA, and I can't seem to get these computers to talk to each other. (though Vista was not part of the curriculum few years ago). It's just a simple ad hoc connection with no real access point. One PC is MS Win$ XP Pro, SP2. Another is MS Win$ Vista. I have admin access to both. Using wireless network devices on both, I've configured a network with WEP security. After tinkering and modifying network settings on the Vista, like enabling access and sharing for any PC trying to connect, they finally see and connect to each other. With limited access (local users only). The way I've always done this with Win$ 2000 and XP systems is to share folders and map network drives. Vista seems to have real issues with finding any network drive on the XP machine, and same the other way around. It'll say something like "Unable to locate network drive, check spelling, rah rah rah..." It's all correct. If there's something so obvious I've missed above I'd like to know now so I can kick myself. I'm not a Vista person, but the networking protocols should be identical in both OSs. According to Vistas documentation, ad hoc with Vista and XP should be compatible. I've just stopped short of setting up a wireless router so there is an access point if that's what it's crying for. But then again that's not the problem, because from the XP I can access the Vistas 3G internet. So it must be a communication issue, not a connection issue. (There's no LAN here at the moment, all PC's are on individual wireless 3G networks) The short version, both PC's are online connected to the same local network, 100% reception, .... can't share files and folders (with every network access permission I could find on Vista enabled).
How to create a wireless Bridge? I have a Cable Modem. The Modem is connected to a WRT120N Cisco Linksys Router. The Router is connected too our main computer and several laptops connect to it. I have an old Belkin54G Wireless Router. I want to put the belkin router in another part of the house and use it to connect to the Linksys Router. Then I want to connect a PC to the Belkin Via LAN. Both routers have Wireless Bridge Capability. My main question is what is each component called. Do they both need to be set up as a wireless bridge? Both as Access Points? Leave One the same? I am really lost. Please help me with my first step. n00b to networking here.
WEP Setup for Windows ME [cisco]? I am trying to set up a wireless network with WEP security with a Windows ME laptop. The wireless card in use is a cisco aironet 340 series. I have the Aironet Client Utility and have created a profile with the WEP key in it, however I am getting nowhere. The laptop is able to get an IP from the network and the Aironet Utility says that we have associated with the Access Point, however I have no Internet access, and am unable to ping any computers. If i remove the WEP settings from the access point and the Aironet Utility everything works fine. Solved - Was the workgroup :S

Can't access wifi? please help! AGAIN!? Wifi problem? My guess is that you didn't do a reset or didn't do it properly. On older routers they usually have a reset button, you`d have to use a toothpick or a paperclip to press and hold for 30 seconds or so. You can also try connectiing the network cable directly to the router and to your computer then log in to the router and perhaps change the settings manually. Open the command prompt (STart --> Run then type in CMD and hit Enter) type the following ipconfig /all then look for Default Gateway. If D.G. is 192.168.1.1 then open the browser and type it in and then hit enter, that should take you to the router page where you can verify and/or change the settings. I would start here... I have a wireless router in my home. I named it and assigned it a password when I set it up. When I try to connect to it with any device (iPod, laptop) it has always asked for the network password and that has always worked. It NEVER asked for a PIN number in order to access the internet. My cousin visited this weekend. When my cousin tried to connect with her vista laptop (Sony Vaio), it didn't ask for the password, but instead it asked for the PIN. She connected and everything seemed ok...until I tried to connect with my own devices. My wifi network had now been replaced with a network named after her laptop. To fix, she disconnected from the wifi, plugged out the wires and put them back again, we reset the router, and STILL only her connection is there. And I can't access it with the old password or even with the router's PIN number, our routers name has just vanished!! What can I do? Should I try re-installing the CD it came with? Please help! Thnx in advance :) it’s a Linksys by Cisco, Wireless-N Home Router model no. WRT120N I hope this helps and the box is missing along with everything that came with it so if it needs to be re-installed could u plz include a link from a safe website thnx in advance! :) I have tried everything from restarting it to this thing right here.. I did this but it asked for a username and password, I tried everything possible from our original router name and its password, the new name with the router PIN, to my laptop username and password but NOTHING is working! Also, today my brother opened up this network magic which is installed with the router set-up in the beginning I never bothered to check it out and didn't really care when the free trial ended but today I noticed that it said for protection not available and that I have to purchase the full version (asks for a key) so I don't get it without this program my wifi isn’t protected from hacking? What’s the point of the password then? This isn’t making any sense at all! I have no idea what to do and its driving everyone in my house crazy because no one can access the wifi so please help! What do I do I need to restore everything back to the way it was with the original router name and password and figure out what’s the deal with this network magic, please help I’m good with computers but not THAT good. THNX IN ADVANCE! :)

Page 1 of 4 CCNA Exploration Network Fundamentals: Living in a Network-Centric World 1.7.1: Skills Integration Challenge-Introduction to Packet Tracer Learning Objectives • Explore Packet Tracer Real-time mode • Explore the Logical Workspace • Explore Packet Tracer operation • Connect devices • Examine a device configuration • Review the standard lab setup • Overview of the devices Background Throughout the course you will be using a standard lab setup created from actual PCs, servers, routers, and switches to learn networking concepts. This method provides widest range of features and the most realistic experience. Since equipment and time are limited, this experience can be supplemented by a simulated environment. The simulator that is used in this course is Packet Tracer. Packet Tracer provides a rich set of protocols, equipment, and features but only a fraction of what is possible with real equipment. Packet Tracer is a supplement to not a replacement for experience with real equipment. You are encouraged to compare the results obtained from Packet Tracer network models with the behavior of real equipment. You are also encouraged to examine the Help files built into Packet Tracer, which include an extensive "My First PT Lab", tutorials, and information on the strengths and limitations of using Packet Tracer to model networks. This activity will provide an opportunity to explore the standard lab setup using Packet Tracer simulator. Packet Tracer has two file formats it can create: .pkt files (network simulation model files) and .pka files (activity files for practice). When you create your own networks in Packet Tracer, or modify existing files from your instructor or your peers, you will often use the .pkt file format. When you launched this activity from the curriculum, these instructions appeared. They are the result of the .pka, Packet Tracer activity file format. At the bottom of these instructions are two buttons: Check Results (which gives you feedback on how much of the activity you have completed) and Reset Activity (which starts the activity over, if you want to clear your work or gain more practice). Task 1: Explore the PT Interface. Step 1: Examine the Logical Workplace. When Packet Tracer starts it presents a logical view of the network in real-time mode. The main part of the PT interface is the Logical Workplace. This is the large area where devices are placed and connected. Step 2: Symbols Navigation. The lower left portion of the PT interface, below the yellow bar, is the portion of the interface that you use to select and place devices into the logical workplace. The first box in the lower left contains symbols that represent groups of devices. As you move the mouse pointer over these symbols the name of the group appears in the text box in the center. When you click on one of these symbols the specific devices in the group appear in the box to the right. As you point to the specific devices, a description of the device appears in the text box below the specific devices. Click on each of the groups and study the various devices that are available and their symbols. All contents are Copyright © 1992–2007 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. This document is Cisco Public Information. Page 2 of 4 CCNA Exploration Network Fundamentals: Living in a Network-Centric World 1.7.1: Skills Integration Challenge-Introduction to Packet Tracer Task 2: Explore PT operations Step 1: Connect the devices using auto connect. Click on the connections group symbol. The specific connection symbols provide different cable types that can be used to connect devices. The first specific type, the gold lightning bolt, will automatically select the connection type based on the interfaces available on the devices. When you click on this symbol the pointer resembles a cable connector. To connect two devices click the auto connection symbol, click the first device, and then click the second device. Using the auto connection symbol, make the following connection: • Connect the Eagle Server to the R1-ISP router. • Connect PC-PT 1A to the S1-Central switch. Step 2: Examine device configuration with a mouse over. Move your mouse over the devices found in the logical workplace. As you move the mouse pointer over these symbols the device configurations appears in a text box. • A router will display port configuration information including IP address, port status, and MAC address. • A server will display IP address, MAC address, and Gateway information • A switch will display port configuration information including IP address, MAC address, port status, and VLAN membership. • A PC will display IP address, MAC address, and Gateway information. Step 3: Examine device configuration. Left mouse click on each device type found in the logical workplace to view the device configuration. • Router and Switch devices contain three tabs. These tabs are Physical, Config, and CLI (Command Line Interface). o The Physical tab displays the physical components of the device such as modules. New modules can also be added using this tab. o The Config tab displays the general configuration information such as device name. o The CLI tab allows the user to configure the device using the command line interface. • Server and Hub devices contain two tabs. These tabs are Physical and Config. o The Physical tab displays components of the device such as ports. New modules can also be added using this tab. o The Config tab displays the general information such as device name. • PC devices contain three tabs. These tabs are Physical, Config, and Desktop. o The Physical tab displays components of the device. New modules can also be added using this tab. o The Config tab displays the device name, IP address, subnet mask, DNS, and gateway information. o The Desktop tab allows the user to configure, IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS server, dial-up, and wireless. Computers in my office cannot download files larger than 60 - 70MB during business hours? I have a strange issue here in the office that I am hoping some of you network gurus can help with. (this might get lengthy) My office is running Windows Small Business Server 2003 with 35 user licenses. The server is connected to a T1 router and to a 48 port Cisco Catalyst 2950 switch. So basically all network/internet/e-mail traffic is going through the server. The problem we are having is that during the work day when everyone is in the office you cannot download files larger than about 60 MB. Anything larger typically hangs and times out on its own after about 50+ MB downloaded. However, you can download files larger than 60 MB in the following scenarios. 1) On the Windows Small Business server itself you can download files larger than 60 MB at any time without any problems. 2) If I remote desktop connect to my computer at home from my computer at work, I can copy large files from my home computer to my work computer without any problems. 3) According to our network guy, he says on weekends when no one is in the office or later in the evening he can download large files from any workstation without any problems. The network guy thought it might be a device on the network causing problems (wireless access point, someone's PC with a faulty NIC, VPN router etc.) So he came in one day and started to disconnect individual network cables hoping to verify the problem but I guess nothing changed. Now he thinks it is the 48 port Cisco router causing the problem. What I am wondering is how come when I remote desktop connect to my PC at home I can transfer files of any size without them timing out? Only when I try downloading files (without going through remote connect) directly to my work computer do the download times out. I have tried multiple files from multiple websites so I know it isn't the website causing the problem. Any suggestions? Is it the Windows Small Business server screwing things up somehow? Thanks! *my download speed is fine, the problem is once the file starts passing 50MB or so the download hangs and times out.
