How To Find Wireless Network Key Access Point Knowledge Base

Does anyone know (step by step) how to find a network key to add a computer to household wireless internet? I have read to "go to the router or access point" but I am looking for a more detailed answer in layman's terms (ie do you go to the router virtually, and if so how do you get there?) The person who set up the wireless router can't remember how it was done or where the manual is because it was so long ago. Isn't there a way to find it on the main computer? I know there are some general codes that usually work, but I can't remember what they are. If anyone knows how or where I can get step by step instructions that would be great. Thanks!
I cannot connect my laptop's wireless internet to my Wireless-g access point wap54g, why cant i find the wpa? When i look for networks on my laptop i usually find 2, 1. I suspect neighbors with usually 1 bar of connection 2.a connection that uses numbers with underscores with the letters SES, i pressed the SES button on the access point, it creates more networks with secured connections. How can i find the wpa key to connect to the networks i see on my laptop which i suspect are mine? (the access point is connected to a desktop, both run vista)
I Need Help Connecting My DS to Wi-Fi? WEP Key Not Working!? I know how to find the access point and everything, but when I enter the WEP key for my wireless network, it says that the settings are invalid. I know my WEP key, though. I found it in my network settings and it's the same one I used to connect my laptop to the connection, so why isn't my connection working?
Where is my wireless router access point, its configuration settings and wireless security settings? I need help finding my network key. The connection icon says there are all bars but internet is not working. The problem seems that it is unable to renew my IP address. I found the address, but I don't know how to renew it. Please at least tell me how to find my network key and explain it as if you were talking to a 12 year old because I don't have a lot of experience with computers.
Trouble connecting to Playstation network? Hello, I'm having trouble connecting to the ps3 network. whenever i try to find a connection, it all seems to work up until test connection, where it finds the access point and tries exchanging Key information. eventually after about 2-3 minutes it times out. i tried a wireless connection, but that fades in and out, making it impossible to maintain enough time to download updates. I've been able to connect to the PSN in the past, but for some reason it stopped working. does anyone know how to fix it?
how do i connect my ps3 to the internet to play online without a wep key? i went to my settings and network settings then my internet connection settings, i chose easy for the setting method, wireless coneection method, scan for my wlan settings, it found my access point. It had 65% signal strength. i chose that then i got to my wlan secruity setting where i can choose none, wep or wpa-psk/wpa2-psk, now i dont know what to do
How do I find my network key? Can I find it from my laptop? I'm trying to connect my DSi so it has the same access point (ours) as my laptop and every other thing with a wireless connection/wi-fi in here. I try to find the network key on my laptop, but I can't find it. Do I have to go on my computer and find the password? The damn thing is secure. Just tell me how to find it, that's all the info I need (I think) :) My laptop is Windows XP, computer Windows 7 and our access point's name is "ZVWA3". I miss linksys
How do I find the SSID and WEP Key on a mac wireless router? So I can connect my DS to the internet? I would try "search for an access point" but when I do it only tries searching for our main internet network, which has a password and the DS won't connect with it. We have another network that doesn't have a password, but since it's only searching for the main network, I need to be able to put it in manually.
Laptop won't connect to wireless router. Any idea how to fix it? I'm having a hard time connecting my laptop to my wireless router. My husband's laptop is connected fine. I actaually went online this morning just fine, but when I came home my laptop won't conect to the wireless connection. It shows my router with excellent connectivity but it just won't connect. I've done a Network Diagnostic for Windows XP I got the follwing message: The wireless Network key on this computer does not match the key settings on the wireless router or access point. To connect to the ntwtwork, the keys must match. So I followed the directions but when I got to the Network Key, I was stumped. Where do I find the network Key? Is this on the back of the router or in the manual? Can any one tell me the steps on how to fix this problem? I'm using netgear wireless router
How do I figure out my WEP key? I know, i should have written it down but I forgot it. I have a Wii and a Nintendo DS lite and I want Wi-Fi for both of them. On both of these, I went to the settings and searched for an access point, and found my network. In order for me to connect it wanted my WEP key. Only thing is I don't know what it is. I Have windows, if that helps and I have three computers (Computer and two laptops) to my network along side my Nintendo DS and Wii. i really want Wi-Fi so i was wondering if someone could help! (I have a Belkin Wireless Router). -And yes I've tried that site: http://192.168.1.1/ but it says that it couldn't work. Thanks for the Belkin site, but I go there. Now what? There's no section for WEP Key or anything. And if I reset my router, it will show my WEP key? You said Factory Default settings. Does that include the WEP key?
How can I find the..? administration or configuration page of my gateway, router, or wireless access point. I need to find the network name (SSID), channel, and the security key (WEP key or WPA passphrase). I'm trying to hook my Xbox Live. I just got it today. Thanks in advance.
Discussing the subject of Internet Security with Parents? Here's my situation. Last month I downloaded the distributed supercomputing client Folding@home. Around the world, people lend their computer's processing power to this Stanford University program to simulate protein folding in the hopes that it will allow a better understanding of how proteins work, and help cure diseases such as Parkinson's. The idea ran through my head to download this program on all of the computers in my home, but in the end I decided to only download it on my personal computer, which is connected to the other computers via a wireless network adapter. The problem is that my stepmom is concerned of the security risks of this program. I mentioned it casually thinking there wouldn't be a problem, and was therefore caught off guard when she began saying that this was putting my parents credit card information at risk. That night i was required to wipe it off my computer. As I later realized, this was a reasonable request, as I was in no position to argue the subject thanks to my lack of knowledge. Therefore, I decided to approach my stepmom about it and offer to do a couple weeks background research to persuade her of why she had nothing to worry about. No. She replied. I'm not going to go into detail, but an hour later I was irate. It's one thing to request that an unknown program be removed when I look like an ass defending it, it's another thing to disregard the offer of background information. During both arguments and unrelated casual conversation weeks prior, my stepmom's words implied she knew little about network security. (not knowing how to set up a wireless network key, or perhaps not even bothering) Understandably, she is not comfortable at all with other people using her laptop outside of the household family. She didn't like the fact that my brother's girlfriend was using it. She first doubted the sincerity of the website (this was the second argument by the way, when I was already offering to find proof.) Then, she tried to point out that a staff member could go rogue, upload a virus to all the computers attached to the program, and steal credit card information. The problem with this is that the same could be said of bank websites or even that teenaged nobody at the cash register, where they already have credit card information rather than just access to one computer on a home network. Next, she said that a person could hack into the supercomputing client and use the IP addresses logged onto the system and hack into our network. Admittedly this has to be the only reasonable threat she proposed, but once again the same could be said of any banking website, or indeed an online forum. Since I made it water clear that this was something i was going to present to her in the coming weeks, I can only assume that she is dead set on ignoring any evidence that contradicts her assumption that this program cannot be trusted. Now, if there was even a fraction of a chance that my parent's credit card information was at risk, there's no way I would knowingly allow that breach to form. If it took me days of constant research to quell any fear in my parents mind that a program is safe, then I would do that, because identity theft is serious shit, and I for one hope to go to University. But it makes me seethe to have the functionality of my hardware limited not by a person being uncomfortable with their credit cards, but by their utter refusal to learn. I can't respect the opinion of someone that tried to say that cops were individually investigating the thousands of IP's of those who visit redtube and failed to prove it, I just can't. No, she didn't mean the chat rooms, she meant the actual streaming videos. Please, empathy and wider perspective has alleviated so much stress when it comes to arguments with my parents. If I feel resentful about being limited then I'm sure my parents more rightfully feel resentful about me compromising their credit card information, but is it too much to ask to just learn about a program before disallowing its use? Her exact words were that I could spend all the time in the world learning about it, but she would still say no. What do I say to something like that? To a person that won't even- well, you get the picture. Since she isn't even comfortable with having family friends on the laptop, and also that she has a close second hand experience with identity theft (her friend got screwed by it), I very much doubt that anything can really be said to alleviate her fears. Do me a favour by not mentioning methods of safer networking, it'll just remind me of how dead set my stepmom is on not listening to me. I have an eerie feeling that most of my resentment is caused by being made to look naive on the medium which I have spent a good part of my life on. (in4 loser) What can I personally do to deal with this?
How do I find the WEP open key and shared key options (Vista) to troubleshoot internet connection problems? After returning from college, my computer had no problem connecting to the wireless network at my home. A few weeks ago, however, I took it to a friend's apartment, and connected to the internet there. Now it will not connect to the network at my home. It can detect the network, with full signal, but is unable to actually connect. Other laptops here at the house, such as the one I'm currently using, have no trouble connecting to the internet, so I don't think it's a problem with the router. Here are the steps I go through. The symbol on the taskbar representing the connections fades back and forth between two computers with a red x between them and a set of gray bars. Holding my cursor over them, a dialog box saying "Not Connected...Wireless networks are available" appears. I right-click on this symbol and choose to "Connect to a Network." The dialog box appears, showing dlink as an unsecured network with great signal. I double click on this to connect to this network and seconds later the dialog box shows that it cannot connect. "Diagnose the problem" shows that "Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point." If I try to open my web browser (Google Chrome), I receive this prompt: Unable to connect to the Internet. Google Chrome can't display the webpage because your computer isn't connected to the Internet. You can try to diagnose the problem by taking the following steps: Go to Start>Control Panel>Network Connections > New Connection Wizard to test your connection. Error 106 (net::ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED): The Internet connection has been lost. I found this information in an online forum, and think it may be helpful, but haven't the computer know-how to interpret it: "In this kind of problem, you should first turn off WEP in both AP and client and see if the connection works. If it does, then you know it's something related to WEP encryption. WEP uses "open key" or "shared key" that is not related to WPA's shared key. With WEP open key, any client can connect to the AP but unless the password is correct, it cannot use it. With WEP shared key, no client can connect to the AP without having the right password to begin with. Sometimes, your client using WEP open key might connect to someone else's network and then it won't work because the passwords don't match. You'll think you're connected to your network and wonder what the problem is. It's best to always use "shared key" when using WEP encryption. It usually isn't on the page where you set the channel, WEP, and password either. It is usually on another page in the setup and you'll have to look for it. And remember, it is not the same thing as WPA's shared key. Open key/shared key are 2 options for WEP. WPA's options include shared key but the other options are different." Can someone give me step by step, painstakingly clear instructions or suggestions about how to go about fixing this problem? That which I know about the computer is as follows: Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium Model: Toshiba Satellite A205
How do i find out what my routers WPA-TKIP security code is? (to input the code on our new Wii)? We got a wii for xmas, wii-hoo! but cant connect it to the internet. selected the access point of our router - an orange livebox.. we inputted the WEP key from the sticker on the router, but it still needs the WPA-TKIP code. well i think it does, because my laptop is currently connected to the wifi, and under 'Network and Sharing Centre' there is the wireless network security properties, in this is states that: security type: WPA-Personal encryption type: TKIP network security key:******** (an 8 character long code) i cant click on the code without it disappearing and neither i nor my partner knows what it is. How can i find out???
IBM T42 ThinkVantage Software Issue!? System Info: T42 IBM laptop, running Windows XP Professional (joined to a domain). I tried looking through the past history on the threads, but didn't see anything that quite fit my problem. My company uses a wireless access point, that used WPA (version 1) encryption using the TKIP algorithm, MS-CHAPv2 authentication, based upon the IEEE 802.1x authentication, to authenticate based on a user's Active Directory credentials. There is no Pre-shared key on this wireless network. When using the ThinkVantage software, we're come acrossed issues where the ThinkVantage software will no longer recognize the SSID of our access point, and simply refers to it as [Unknown] when trying to Find it. The SSID of this network is obviously something different, and it is broadcast. Only a handful of these laptops have encountered the issue. The only thing we've found is that Windows Automatic updates are turned on, and are being downloaded from Microsoft, whereas our company will turn them off in order to allow us to monitor and QA the updates before they go live. Notes about what has been tried: -We have tried uninstalling/reinstalling both the Wireless Driver (Intel) and the ThinkVantage softwares (versions 4.12 and the latest, 5.02) both the original (tested and QA'd) versions, and the newest versions available on the Lenovo web site. -Uninstalled all Microsoft updates installed after the original (working) deployment of the laptop. -Used System restore to back the machine up to before the user originally received the laptop (also working at this point). -Windows XP Wireless Manager does allow us to manually set up and configure the wireless network. However, our users and administrators prefer the connection management available through ThinkVantage. Any advice on how we can resolve this issue in the future? We're pretty stumped! Windows Firewall is not enabled on these machines. They use Symantec Client Firewall, and it has been both disabled and uninstalled without affecting this issue.
Need help with configuring my wireless router!? Ok, say here it goes. I have a linksys wireless router model number WRT54G2. I used this router and have it all set up, and i use it to play my Xbox 360 wired. But how do I make it so i can use it wirelessly? ( I HAVE WINDOWS VISTA) I went to start, control panel, network and sharing center, set up a connection or network, set up a router or wireless access point, and typed in everything just fine. But i tried using a psp to connect to the internet to test if it would work, and when i scanned to see if the psp could detect if the router should, it did With the exact SSID i gave the router. But I went to log in to linkys and checked to see if everything was fine, and my problem is that Im using security setting Wpa PSK (TKIP) like it says on the site, but i could not find the wpa key. If i found the wpa key, would my router finally be able to use my router wirelessly, or did i do something wrong and need to start over again?
D-link wbr-2310, how to access from host computer? I've had a wbr-2310 for a while now, and can't get my wireless network working. I wasn't the one who set it up, and I can't find a manual for it online. I think the BIG problem is that I do not know how to access it to begin reconfiguring (the next problem will be if the default username/password was changed, but we've already determined how to reset that if necessary) Can anyone point me in the right direction? (also the default web-key if there is one would be awesome)
What am I doing wrong in trying to set up my home Wi-Fi network? I have two desktop computers. They are two rooms apart, on either side of the house. The main computer (mine in my room) has a direct DSL connection going into a modem/gateway. I have NetZero DSL 6bmps. My modem/gateway is a 2Wire 4011G. I called today and asked NetZero if this modem/gateway is indeed Wi-Fi ready...told her the model number and she confirm it on their end (since they gave the modem to me for free when I got my Internet). It also has a "Wireless" LED light on the front of it, which isn't lit currently. The Netzero rep told me that the modem I have with them is b, g and n compatible. So today, I bought a wireless adapter (USB) for the new computer in the other room. I installed the software on the other for the wireless adapter and it prompted me to plug in the wireless adapter. I plugged it in, it asked me for a network key. I found it under my 2Wire modem/gateway. My wireless adapter is a Belkin Wireless N 150. How do I get this wireless to turn on, on my main computer with the modem/gateway on it? The light isn't lit...do I need to set it up as a router or something? It is currently configured for a basic Home network, because I didn't previously plan on setting up a new computer in another room anytime soon. But it also functions as my DSL modem, at the same time...so would setting it up as a router/access point kill the connection to my main computer, in the process? Note that the computer in the other room with the wireless adapter on it...when I scan for networks, it picks up my 2Wire gateway/modem via the wifi...that's working. It then asks for a "Network Security Key" to be entered. On the bottom of my DSL modem, it has a "WIFI KEY" with a 10-digit number. When I enter that number, it tries to connect...but of course can't connect because my modem isn't set up for wireless and the LED light for WiFi is not on. How do I turn it on? Note that the computer in the other room with the wireless adapter on it...when I scan for networks, it picks up my 2Wire gateway/modem via the wifi...that's working. It then asks for a "Network Security Key" to be entered. On the bottom of my DSL modem, it has a "WIFI KEY" with a 10-digit number. Wireless connection: How do you view security settings on a computer? I am trying to connect it to my wireless internet through an access point, I click connect to the network, I enter the WEP key and then it says "windows cannot connect to ..." I clicked diagnose the problem and it told me to "view the wireless security settings on this computer to verify they are compatible with this network." Help finding these security settings or a method to fix this problem will be appreciated. Thanks Sooooo, it seems rebooting is a necessary step after connecting your router, so that the settings are saved on the primary computer. All 3 laptop, and 2 gaming consule issues resolved thereafter!

Wireless Router situation only one computer works?!? I have a belkin router model F7D2301 and it's only working for one computer. I did accidentally changed my router settings from 192.168.1.2. or whatever it's called. I think I made the router work only as an access point, how do i undo my mistake?! I was trying to make my DS work for a friend. Usually, I'd have to disable my internet passwords for him to get on nintendo wi fi connection. I tried looking around for the WEP key i needed and that's when the mistake happened. I did this all on a laptop so now i can't use it. I have one desktop that's not working either. When I search for which network to connect to, my router's name doesn't appear, but there are three networks that have names related to my dad's job. When I tried all three of them i needed to confirm some kind of password, but in the end it did not work. How do i solve all of these internet problems? With the computer I'm using now, I cannot enter my router settings to change the mistake... It's getting me so annoyed and the user manual I found on belkin's website is not helping me at all. Also, just to note. My router is not blinking but its just glowing red-ish orangey. What does that mean!?! Someone please help me and not give me some link, because I've probably tried it already Simple instructions PLEASE
Please help me! PLEASE!! I am begging you! Best Answer gets points! iPad Troubles with WiFi!? Ok, so my Uncle is trying to figure out how to connect his iPod Touch which I gave him to his WiFi, but he's been having a tough time lately. So, since I am fairly decent with Computers and such, I thought that I could give it a go. But even I am having sour luck. I choose to 'Connect' to his WiFi Network and it asks me for a Key on his iPod Touch AND my iPad. Now I have done EVERYTHING you could possibly even think of to find out this WEP Key, or Wifi Password. We talked to his friend that set it up for him, NO LUCK. My Uncle has a 'Mac OS X' Computer, so I accessed 'Terminal' to find out our 'Default Gateway' which I did. I typed it in on a 'Safari' Browser page, and had to Log-In to his 'D-LINK' Router and I got into it successfully. I have tried to display his WEP Key, his Advanced Router/ Network/ Connection/ The Whole 9-Yards to find out this Password. I even went to 'Finder' [On the Mac Dock]> 'Applications' > 'Utilities' [Folder/File] > 'Keychain Access' and chose the Network he and I would like to connect to, and checked off 'Show Password', it then Authorized me as Administrator, then showed us the supposed 'Password'. So, It told us the Password, I typed it in on my iPad to test it, and of course it didn't work. And, one more thing [I apologize for this being so long], I even tried Setting Up/ Connecting a new Wireless Device, and it asked me for my iPad's PIN which I do not know. PLEASE HELP ME!! Thank you!!!
Computer infected by virus!? My computer was recently infected with Win 7 Anti Virus, virus. I was able to find help online and first transferred the portable anti spyware program malewarebytes from one working computer to the infected one. After that didn't work and the anti spyware did not detect the virus I then learned how to do a system reboot which I had to do while my computer was turing on with the F8 key, since all programs including the internet have been blocked by this virus. I was very successful in rebooting it to a previous time, but at the time the last thing on my mind was setting a new restore date. I never thought the restore date would have deleted itself, and I am still not sure why it worked out that way? Anyway, the virus some how found it's way back to my computer after only one day, and when I tried to restore in the same way my computer said that I did not have any previous restoring points, so I created another administrative account and tried to do it that way and it didn't work. I also tried typing in everything possible on safe mode with command prompt. Safe mode also does not allow me to access the internet, the virus has infected everything! I then found a website that said to try a fake registration key that will make the virus think you have purchased it while giving you a chance to access the internet. I finally found a registration key that was able to work, and all of the annoying pop up's dissappeared but now my computers internet still does not work as well as some applications. The internet says I have limited access to my network but at the same time that I am not connected to the avaliable connections. There is no wifi switch on my computer, and all wifi on other wireless computers in my house works perfectly fine. heres some other valuable information * I have a windows 7 laptop * I have restored one time already * Not able to enter internet or other applications, but I can make different accounts, guest and administrator. Any help would be greatly appreciated, above I have listed everything I have EXHAUSTIVELY tried. Thank you for any info, I am an 18 year old female college student who despratly needs her computer and is not a computer geek, so I need simple solutions. Thanks again :)
Cant access the network drive used by the workgroup who uses the same wireless connection? There are 5 computers in the office connected to the internet using the same wireless connection point, the main computer has a z drive which the other 4 computers have access to using the office wireless network and all computer work is to be saved to this drive for office access. There is a new desktop which i have connected to the internet using the same wireless connection but when i go to my network places - then entire network - then microsoft windows network, no domain appears so I cant access the network drives or printers.....I also tried another route.. tools - then map network drive and then I typed in the the same info on the other five computer but the computer still couldnt find the network drives they have. I have already typed in the encryption key to get access to the internet and then the network key to connect to the same network but for some reason i still cant access the network drives. Is there a special address or code I need from the main computer maybe?..

I'm adding a wireless Access Point to my wireless network. What do I set the SSID & channel to? Right now my wireless router and my new wireless access point are set to the same SSID & have the same WEP key. My intent is to have my devices talk to whichever unit has the stronger signal. Should they have the same channel too or will this cause some data collision or confusion? Right now my wireless router and my new wireless access point are set to the same SSID & have the same WEP key. My intent is to have my devices talk to whichever unit has the stronger signal. Where is the Network key? I'm trying to get my school laptop to use the Wifi in my house but it says I need the network key, which can be found on the wireless router or access point. Where is that? I've looked at two boxes for our tv/internet connection and see many series of numbers and letters. So far the ones I've tried haven't worked. Where exactly is the network key and wireless router/access point? I have AT&T U-verse if that helps :) thanksss.
Unplugged friend's wireless router to decrypt it. I can see a generic network, but cannot connect. Reinstall? When I couldn't access my friend's encrypted network with his 10 digit network key, he decided to unplug the router. We assumed that that would make the network accessible to anyone. At that point, the name of the network switch from his old network's name (e.g."Bob's") back to "Netgear". Unfortunately, although I can see the network, I can't acess it. My computer can still log onto other wireless networks, so it's not the computer. Do I need to reinstall the router driver on my computer? And if so, do I need to clear out his settings (including email login) and put mine in? I've also tried unplugging the modem, router and re-plugging them in in that order. Any help is appreciated. Wireless internet access via Wireless Access Point? I work for a law firm and set up a Wireless Access Point (Linksys WAP54G) in our office so our laptop and several of the partners' laptops they bring in from home can connect to our network wirelessly. Now, my boss wants vendors and other attorneys who visit our office to be able to access the interent wirelessly if they need to. Is that possible without setting up their computers to log onto our network domain? I ask because I brought my laptop in from home, which has never logged onto our domain. I did have the WAP set up in WEP security mode using a passphrase generated key PLUS MAC address filtering. I removed the MAC address filtering and tried to connect my laptop using one several of the generated keys. It seemed to work, but I got no signal indicator and Internet Explorer would not connect. I also tried using no security mode (open wireless network) and it still didn't work. I'm guessing that you cannot do what they want to do using a WAP. In that case, would I be better off using a run of the mill wireless router like I have at home and connecting it directly to the cable modem? Thanks in advance!
Wireless internet access through a Wireless Access Point? "Linksys Wireless-G USB network adaptor with speedboost" won't find access points? I have a linksys wireless-G USB network adaptor with speedboost and it stopped working. It wont find any access points. I am sure they are there. i turned on my laptop one day and it jsut stopped working. I was going to try and re-install it but I can't find the disk that came with it for the life of me. Is there anyway that I can get some program or drivers or whatever and put it on a USB key, the put it on my laptop, then plug in the wi-fi adaptor and try to reinstall it? Or better yet, could somebody tell me what I can do to just straight up fix the problem? It says it can't associate with an acess point even though I have used it there before. one day i just turned the thing on and it wouldnt work! Thanks in advanced for any help

How to set up a wireless network...? So I wish to set up a wireless network to enable both a PS3 (which I have) and a PVR (which I am about to purchase) to stream media from my laptop. I am a massive noob in this area so any help would be greatly appreciated. This is the equipment I have: Laptop, which has neither internal wireless or Bluetooth capabilities. It does have an Ethernet connection and it also has a connection which has the words "Expansion Port 2" written near it (if that means anything re what I am trying to achieve.) Netgear 4 port wireless router connected wirelessly to my laptop through a 54 Mbps wireless pc card (wg511 v2) Windows XP Home edition. Ps3 with wireless and Bluetooth capabilities. I already have this connected to the internet through the wireless router. (just not the media server thingy.) Windows Media Player 11 (apparently this is used in regards the PS3 media sharing) ------------------- I will tell you what I have attempted so far and you can chuckle out loud for a while then see if you can help me out :) I clicked on control panel>wireless network setup wizard>ok>set up a new wireless network. I give the new network a name and leave it checked on "automatically assign a network key" Now it asks how I want to set up my network. It recommends using a USB flash drive which I tried first of all and it put some kind of setup program on there. It then said to put the drive in the wireless access point, then the other computer (which I assume can also be the PS3) and then finally back into the host computer. The first hurdle I came across was the fact that the wireless router I have does not have a USB port! At this point I am starting to wonder whether I have all of the required equipment (perhaps some sort of networking specific hardware is missing?) Still that is what you are all for! I decided to come at this from a different angle so I go back to where it recommends using the USB drive to continue with the network setup. There is another option which says "set up a network manually." When I choose this option it says "Depending on the wireless software running on this computer, the wireless network setup wizard might not work.” It then would not allow me to go any further. This confuses me momentarily till I try another option and it makes more sense… I go to control panel>network connections>new connection wizard Near the bottom of this next page it has a hyper link to “view wireless networks in range.” When I click on this it goes to a page which says “choose a wireless connection.” But in the panel it says “windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to configure this wireless connection, use that software. If you want to use windows to configure this wireless connection click “change advanced settings,” click the wireless connections tab then select the check box labeled “use windows to configure my wireless network settings.” When I do exactly this and then click on “view wireless networks” it comes up with a warning. “You have made changes to the properties of this connection. If you proceed your changes will be lost. Do you wish to proceed?” At this point I panic that I will lose my current wireless internet connection and instead ask the experts (that’s you.) Does the fact that my pc connects to the wireless router through some sort of Netgear proprietary software factor in here? So can I do this thing wirelessly? If not can I do it with cords and if so how would I achieve that? Thanks so much for your help. Ok so I have an update: When I was initially attempting all of the above I was connected to the internet wirelessly through the wireless pc card as I was doing it. I swapped from the wireless connection to the Ethernet connection and tried the: control panel>wireless network setup wizard>ok>set up a new wireless network thing. This time I by-passed the recommended USB option for the "set up a network manually." Option. Whereas before it gave me this warning, "Depending on the wireless software running on this computer, the wireless network setup wizard might not work.” Now it let me go through and asked me to print out a set of network settings which were to be entered into the host computer/router and the other computer (ie. PS3) I printed out the settings but am reasonably clueless as to where exactly to enter them. Is it though the little Netgear icon in the system tray? Where on the PS3? Where on the host computer? Again I apologize for the noobness but we all have to start somewhere right? Pete.
how do i catch intruders to my wireless network? i have wireless access point and a wireless router with wep or wpa encrytion on. intuders might have network key, maybe freinds or neibors around can have it. suppose they have the network key; how do i know how many people are connected to my wirless network, without refering to them? any software?
Wireless Connection Problems? I don't know much about wireless stuff, but if I have a notebook that is "wireless" capable and doesn't require any type of wireless card, etc. Isn't it possible that I just can't take it anywhere and connect to any wireless access point? At work we have wireless capable notebooks. We try connecting to a network wirelessly and it's telling us there are no networks available. Understand this no big deal,,,,,take one home and then it instantly finds 5 wireless networks,,,good so far I'm thinking, but then I try to access each one of them, it's asking me for a wireless access key, or some kind of password. I've been told that's because the access point I'm trying to access is set up that way for security reasons. Again, no big deal. I tried all 5 of them and all of them required this "password". I was told that if I drove around, I might be able to find a "hot spot" for free access. As I'm not a wireless expert, does everything I wrote here make sense? If I have a wireless capable notebook and it does find wireless networks, and requires a "key/password" that's understandable, but some of the workers I service are getting upset because they're taking these notebooks home and can't find or connect to any wireless network. But is it me, or does it matter if they're are any access points, and if they have access to it. IE, just because a notebook has wireless capabilities doesn't mean we just take them wherever and connect free, yes/no? Am I wrong in my thinking. Bought a book on this so I can learn more, but people are getting upset and I don't know what to tell them yet until I learn enough about wireless.
How do I get firefox to ask me for a wireless network password? I got my new laptop today, a Dell Inspiron 1525. I can see my neighbour's wireless, and when I try to access it I get the "Network Key Required" box, so I think my wireless card is working properly. Then I went to the public library and try to connect to their network (which, unlike my neighbour's wireless, I have permission to access). The applet shows a connection being made, and it tells me that it's got a strong connection. Now here's the problem. At this point the network should request a username and password from me, but it doesn't. When I start up Firefox, the status bar tells me that it's searching for, connecting to, then waiting for the website. But nothing ever comes up. I have done everything mentioned on the library website (disabled pop-up blockers, set up my system up for DHCP), but to no avail. So basically I can make the connection but don't have permission to use the network because it doesn't ask me for my password. I'm running Ubuntu 7.10.
Connecting my DirecTv box to a wireless network? I just ordered a HD DriecTv receiver and am trying to connect it to my wireless network. I have it connected to an access point, then wirelessly to my modem/router. I went through the setup, clicked on wireless connection, but it doesn't allow me to input my WEP key. Therefore not allowing me to connect to my network. What am I doing wrong?
internet won't work on my laptop but will on other laptops in apartment? i think the reason may be according to the network diagnostic for windows xp, that "the wireless network key on this computer does not match they key settings on the wireless router/access point. what is my network key? is it the password i created for my wireless network to make it secure? my own notes: "to check the settings on the router or access point, follow the instructions in the information that came with the device" thank you!!
What is best solution security for Wireless High Speed Internet Access for Motel? I am trying to setup and configure Wireless High Speed Internet Access for Motel. Wireless WEP key programs? I have a laptop and use to have a program (don't now) and i'm trying to find it or something similar to it. What it does is this: It views any wireless network that you are in range of. It will view all access points and their name, IP address and details. What makes it special is that it reveals the wep key, any type of encryption. (Wireless G) You can also export all information on that specific access point. The problem is that i don't know where to find it now and i need some help with a link for that program. Remember it must search wirelessly to get access points. the one i have now only shows the wep keys that are currently on my computer. If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Strange network issue?...read details...? Ok, I have a HP laptop running Vista with a Intel 3945ABG wireless adapter. My router is a Belkin F5D7230-4 6000 with the latest firmware. I just upgraded from WPA-PSK1/TKIP to WPA-PSK2/AES-CCMP encryption. So here's my issue: Everything worked before I upgraded, all the hardware and software is rated for WPA2/AES Now, the XP and Linux computers still work fine, but the Vista computer can't properly view local network web pages (my printer server and web server) on inside IPs (192.168.2.x). Internet (WAN) works great but local network pages either won't load or appear with corrupt formatting, no pictures, and take forever. I can, however, print to my network printer and ping other computers on my network without any problems. About to get stranger: If I drop vista back to WPA1 but leave everything else on WPA2, it works. If I disable built-in wireless on the router, and connect a wireless access point (Belkin WURE) to the router, using the SAME EXACT wireless network name, security key, channel, etc. all the computers - including Vista, work fine so it's not Vista. If I boot Ubuntu LiveCD on my Vista laptop (instead of Windows) it works fine so it's not the hardware. So, here's what I must conclude: There may be something wrong or incompatible with Vista and this particular router's wireless feature; and I need a new router by RMA or self-purchase. I have already called (and stumped) Belkin's tier 1 support rep and am waiting for a callback - supposedly tomorrow morning from a higher-level agent. In the mean time, maybe there are some people here that can (a) confirm my conclusion, (b) suggest an alternative resolution, or (c) suggest other troubleshooting I don't know about. Just got the call from Belkin's senior rep: Rep: "WEP should be good enough, if WPA won't work just don't use it" Me: "But if the devices are all designed for WPA2, shouldn't it work" Rep: "We don't recommend mixing WPA1 and WPA2" Me: "Then why is it a choice?" Rep: "It is but we don't recommend it. I can assist you in switching to WEP" Thanks strangefrogg I'll look forward to anything you can find! You've already done better than Belkin's support... Personally, I think I'll try to get a new router (same model, newer hardware version) on sale this week. I think this one was actually "retrofitted" for WPA2 in the firmware if I remember correctly.
Problems connecting to wireless network with psp? After I scan for the access point and enter the WEP key and such....there seems to be a problem where the psp RAPIDLY repeats the connection. Like it will say......"connecting to the access point Pease wait....." then it disappears and comes back again rapidly, before I even get to the part that says exchanging wep keys or w/e..... why is it that everyones questions get quickly answered apart from mine?
Access point question please,,..,.,.,.,.,.,? hello i have tp-linktl-wa501g access point . i want to reset it[i don't know it's Username ,password , or Wep key]. i am on a wireless network, by the way i can connect to my network and surf internet via my wifi card on my laptop without writing a Wep key or a security code. I want to use XP instead of Belkin software for my wireless connection>>? OK my connection for my wireless router is like this>> Network Type>Access Point Transfer Rate>125 High Speed Mode Authentication Mode>WPA-PSK Input Method>AES Channel>11 I have a 10 digit key... With these setting should windows connect ok with just entering my passkey or do I have to fiddle with other things? I have looked about but can't find the answer anywhere... XP as it stands finds the wireless network, but I cant connect without Belkins software even when "use windows for wireless connections" is selected...Thanks
Connecting my PSP to wireless Network.? I just bought the Piano Black PSP-3000. I'm trying to connect to my wireless network. I know I have the SSID and WPA key both correct (as I have used them on my PS3 and my Laptop) After I have entered all of the info, I test the connection and I keep getting the error "A network error has occured. The Access point cannot be detected" This is strange because I can do the scan, and my router shows up. Any ideas? Thanks
How do I enter the WEP key and SSID for use in Xbox Live Wireless? I'm trying to set up a wireless connection to use for Xbox Live. I've got the Wireless Adapter, etc. However, my dad has MAC filtering on the wireless access point. He says that I've got to enter the SSID and Wep key into the Xbox first. When I go to System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings, the Wireless Mode is grayed out, even though the Xbox 360 wireless adapter is connected to the Xbox. Help? The wireless adapter has a red light on, instead of a green light. Does this affect anything? Thanks a bunch. In response to JT, he says that I need to input the SSID and Wep Key first. Is he correct? Thanks guys, I'll tell him that... He's just too stubborn to believe it. Lol

Windows Wireless Zero Config has a constant 'Waiting for the Network' problem? I need to use the built in software in Windows that should allow me to connect to my network using Wi-Fi. The built in Windows software is called 'Wireless Zero Configuration' I can use it to find my Wireless Access Point, and I can try to connect, however it says, "Waiting for the Network" and eventually stops and doesn't connect me. I have tried it with my Router switched to 'No security' as well. (I know this is dangerous, but I needed to know if an incorrect security key was the problem) Even then, it still didn't connect. I have tried restating the 'Wireless Zero Configuration' service, in Start > Run > services.msc and it still didn't work. I don't know what else to try. I haven't installed any other Wi-Fi software. Thanks mattmatician, I will look into it!
Help with Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter? Okay, I've purchased a wireless adapter thing from microsoft, and it is plugged into my Xbox. When I scan for wireless access points, it recognizes my wireless network. Then I correctly entered the WPA key. So it says everything is recognized properly. Then, when I take the test to connect, it fails connecting to my network. Then I looked up the IP adress, subnet mask, etc., and entered those into the Xbox settings. The test still fails and I cannot connect. Any suggestions? I've looked it up online and haven't heard of anyone having a similar problem. Oh yeah, I've also heard something about having to open a port on your router which allows your wireless adapter to connect?? PLEASE HELP! Greatly appreciated.
Wireless card help, I'm in BT3 and am trying to crack a WEP key? For legality purposes, the WEP key I am trying to crack is that of my own wireless network, not because I've forgotten it, but just to see if I can do it. I'm booted into BackTrack 3 on a live CD. I'm using a Belkin wireless card. Model number: F5D7050. When trying to crack WEP keys, it is very slow when receiving IV packets, like after two hours it only has about 90. I a right next to the access point, so signal strength is not the issue, can someone please help me with this, and if this card is not able to be used in the aircrack suit or is not able to be used in BackTrack 3 to crack WEP keys, then can you please tell me a type that can be used to? Preferably no more than 50 dollars in price, and available at Walmart or Best-Buy because those are the only stores that'd sell wifi cards that are near me.... Walmart preferably.... Thanks.
Wireless woes. Help!? I manage a wireless access point for a home library. We use DSL-604T gateway by D-Link. Its currently WPA-Psk string protected. And we give the network keys to visitors who need to use the internet. Here is our problem: A particular visitor stays only a few floors down of the library and he can receive the network signal. Our purpose of having the internet access is for people who are at the library and during library hours only. That person although been told has still used our connection even after library hours. We keep the wireless on because residents at the library still use it. How to keep that f***er from using our network when he is not a visitor? Thanks. Bless you all. =D

Help with my wireless network? I have recently bought a LINKSYS Compact Wireless-G USB adaptor (802.11g) and am trying to connect it to recognize my Orange Livebox wireless internet provider. Basically underneath the Livebox it says this: MODEL: [model number] S/N: [long number with a couple of letters in] @MAC: [6 2-letter/number things with colons in between] Bulk: [13-character long sequence] WEP: [26-character sequence, used to connect my laptop up to it] On the LINSKYS screen it says this under Site Survey (when I choose to connect): Security: [Either WEP, WPA-personal or PSK2] Encryption: [on WEP, 64-bit or 128-bit, on WPA-personal TKIP or AES and the menu not here on PSK2] Passphrase: [after it says 'please enter a passphrase that is 8 to 63 characters in length] WEP key 1: [only on WEP encryption, 10 long for 64-bit encryprion or 26 for 128-bit] I've tried everything I could think of, but whenever I clicked connect it says 'Cannot associate with access point'. Any help?
Problem Connecting Wirelessly to a BT Homehub? I've recently moved into a house which has wireless internet running through a BT Homehub 2. All of the other computers in the house have no problem connecting to the Hub using the default key. Whenever I attempt to connect using the default key my computer either comes up with 'wireless network key is incorrect' or simply 'no response received from the router or access point'. I've tried changing the encryption from WPA to WEP, changing the key etc. Nothing works. I'm using a Fujitsu Siemens Amillo running Windows Vista. Does anyone have any ideas?

Help with wireless connection? Recently we bought our daughter a little laptop for kids, it's equipped with Wifi. I have been trying for two days to get it to access the internet and it's not working. This is a Christmas present and I really wanted all the kinks to be out so she could play with it Christmas day. We currently run a private connection that requires a network key, which I have and we have a wireless router, so there's an access point as well. I have tried entering the IP and subnet mask manually as well as the default gateway as opposed to picking it up from the network, but that doesn't seem to be working either. Does anyone have any suggestions?
What is missing to achieve this? I'm using internet sharing on imac to vista laptop and followed these steps: -set up standard 128-bit WEP-protected WiFi internet sharing on Mac -on Windows go to Wireless Network Connection Properties/Wireless Networks -add new WiFi network -enter network name matching your Mac access point -set Network Authentication: Shared -set Data Encryption: WEP -uncheck "The key is provided automatically" option and enter (and repeat) your 13 character password under "Network key" -uncheck "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication ..." under Authentication tab (where is this?) i remember trying this before and it worked but i tired it again this time i only get local access. i made a new connection but still i get local. how do i resolve this? it's getting annoying... i got these steps from a forum... it worked before. now i tried to connect the internet to the laptop's ethernet and it was still local only...
Can anyone please rewrite these steps to hack a nintendo wifi usb connector to a 13 year old? I really can't understand what to do and how to do it so i am asking if anyone would actually rewrite this in a way a 13 year old can understand step by step. Here it is.I copied and paste this. Ok. If you are an owner of a DS and a PSP and you only have a Nintendo Wifi USB Connector to connect to the internet with you can use this tutorial to change your Nintendo Wifi USB Connector in to a SoftAP so you can connect online with any other devices like a PSP. To do this you need to have this rar file: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S4VLBP9A or you can get it from here: http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/nin_wifi_Fullpack.rar You can also watch a video of me installing the Nintendo Wifi USB Connector if you dont feel like reading. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=31QXFFP2 Then follow these steps: 1) If you want to use the official Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector as a standard SoftAP make sure you have removed the Nintendo software and drivers as they will no longer be needed. 2) Inside the Drivers folder of the RAR file, you will find modified Buffalo drivers. Install these drivers for the USB Connector. Then install the ASUS software (also in RAR file(eng_2371.zip)). When it prompts you to restart, select No. I have found that there is no need to. 3) Now in the ASUS EXEs folder of the RAR file, extract the six EXE files in the into the ASUS folder (C:\Program Files\ASUS\WLAN Card Utilities). Make sure you overwrite the existing files. 4)Then click Start -> All Programs -> ASUS Utility -> WLAN Card -> ASUS WLAN Control Center. You will get a dialog asking if you want to use the Windows configuration utility or the ASUS one, select the option that uses ASUS one and disables the Windows one. Then there will be a wizard. Click Cancel to close the wizard. 5) Now copy the file (C:\Program Files\ASUS\WLAN Card Utilities\Driver\WinXP\AP\rt2500usb.sys) to (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers). Make sure you overwrite the existing file. 6) Right-click on the ASUS software icon in the System Tray (bottom-right corner of screen) and select Wireless Settings. When the settings dialog opens, on the left select Config, then go to the SoftAP tab, and select Soft AP Mode. Then un-tick the Enable ICS checkbox. Then on the left click Apply. You will get a message box asking if you really want to change to SoftAP mode, click Yes. A message will come up saying something like "add the adapter to the network bridge", just ignore it and click OK. If all has gone well, there will be no error messages. Now close the ASUS Wireless Config utility or it will start conflicting when we manually set ICS. 7) Now go to Control Panel -> Network Connections (this may have opened automatically opened up when you Applied the SoftAP settings). Right-click on the Network Adapter you are currently accessing your Internet through (or your internet connection icon) and open the properties for that connection. Go to the Advanced tab, and click "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection". Then click OK. If you get an error message saying the IP address is already in use, disable the Network adapter you are trying to share then try again - be sure to enable it again afterwards. It can take a long time for ICS to be enabled so wait patiently. 8) Now right-click on the Wireless Network Connection and click Properties. In the middle of the dialog there will be some protocols, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then open the properties for that. Windows would have assigned a static IP address if ICS was successfully enabled, check to make sure this IP address does not conflict with other IP addresses on your network. Also, it should be on a different subnet to the Local Area Connection (for example, my computer's IP address is 192.168.0.2, I assigned the wireless network connection the IP address of 192.168.1.1 - which is on a different subnet). If it is on the same subnet, ICS will not work correctly. ***9)*** With that done, open the ASUS Wireless Config utility again. On the left select Config, in the Basic tab set a SSID. In the encryption tab, select Shared for Network Authentication and WEP for Data Encryption - I have found that this works with the DS. Now enter a WEP key. Go back to the Basic tab, and at the bottom click on Advanced, change the 54g Mode setting to 802.11b only. Click Apply on the left to save the settings. 10) Now turn on your DS, play a Wi-Fi Connection game, go to the Nintendo WFC Settings, and select Manual Setup. Enter the SSID and WEP Key (both of these are case-sensitive) you entered to the ASUS Config utility before. Select No to Auto-obtain IP Address (you must do this because the Nintendo DS doesn't seem to DHCP correctly with ICS for some reason). Now give your DS an IP Address (this must be on the same subnet as the USB connector, I gave my DS the IP address: 192.168.1.2). For subnet mask enter 255.255.255.0. For gateway and primary DNS, enter the IP address of the USB connector. Now try and test connection, and if all has gone well the connection should be successful! 11) Now with the ASUS Wireless Config utility, hide your SSID, and use MAC Address filtering to improve the security of your wireless access point. 12) You now have an Official Nintendo Wifi USB Connector that can connect online with any other devices. :D

How do I set up the wireless router I got from my friend? (info inside)? He gave me an older wireless router he had (they were giving it to his grandma, but for some reason she couldn't use it, so he gave it to me). He gave me the physical router, and all the info on a piece of paper (hose name, SSID, WEP Passphrase, key, etc etc), and said that was all I need (he was pretty sure). It's a wireless access point router 2.4Ghz, 802.11b with 4 port switch. Linksys, model BEFW11S4 I thought I could get it set up just by "going at it", as I set up our wired-network (home desktop + garage + wired connection to my laptop when I was in that room). But I'm kinda of at a standstill I can provide more info if needed Do I have to enter the old info first, then change them to what I want?
Wireless connection drops randomly when using Linksys WRT54GP2 connected to a SBC dsl modem? Connection works most of the time, but every once in a while my machine (sitting all of 1 foot away currently from the wireless point) loses internet connection. And its purely web and email access too. FTP and whois work fine. Using a secure WPA Key with my machine and a squeebox on the network only right now. Squeezebox also loses connection intermittently. Any ideas about what is causing this?

My Laptop Will Not Connect To Wireless Router!? I have been trying for months to connect my laptop to the wireless router. It is security enabled WPA-PSK,I have all the details and I have made absoultutely sure that everything is correct. I have even changed the key and settings to make sure I am typing it all in correctly. This is what happens: - I go on 'connect to a network' and clikc on the network I want to connect to (this has 5 green bars) - After clicking on my network it asks me for the security key/passphrase (I am certain I type this in correctly) - It then imidiately comes up with 'Windows cannot connect to 'CDugR568b'. - I click on diagnose the problem and it comes up with "Wireless assosiation failed because Windows did not recieve and response from the wireless router or access point". So what is the problem, it really makes no sense to me because my stand alone computer in my bedroom connects fine through a wireless adapter.my dads laptop connects fine and obviously the main computer which is connected directly to the router via Ethernet cable is also working fine. Help would be greatly appriciated, there must be people out there who have had similar problems :(
Having problems trying to connect to internet via computer for xbox 360? I have connected my xbox 360 ad computer together using an ethernet cable and bridged the connection, but when i run the the xbox live connetion test, the IP address keeps on failing when i select more info it says: -confirm that there are no other devices on your network with the same ip address -If your using a outer or gateway, verify that it is configured to assign IP addresses to network devices (DHCP enabled) -If your connecting to a wireless network secured with a WEP or WPA key, and the WEP or WPA ke on your console is incorrect, you wll not be able to receive an ip address from your access point, gateway or routers dhcp server. selct the wireless ntwork again, check the WEP or WPA key on your access point, gateway or router and update the WEP or WPA key on the console. (I have a WPA key on my router and the xbox has not asked me for it ao could this be what my problem is? if yes could you tel me how to fix it?) Could someone plz tel me how to fix this problem? I would be very very grateful thanks in advance

I cannot connect to the net via my Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter.? I am trying to connect my Dell laptop to the wireless D-Link Router used throughout our home. The network is 64-bit encrypted and I have the full WEP Key and SSID. When I input all the required information into the Linksys Profile Information, it still will not connect to the net. I receive the following message on the "Link Information" page: "You are connected to the access point, but the Internet cannot be found." However, I can connect just fine using my brothers laptop which has internal Wi-Fi that was configure to the same router, so I know the router is working correctly. If my computer is connecting the router, then why wont is access the net? I just bought the adapter today...totally new. IP address is correct. It says I am connected to the "access point" which I assume refers to the D-Link router, but it will not connect to the internet. Is there a problem with the router being D-Link and my adapter card being Linksys (there shouldnt be...)? Weird...I just restarted the computer (for the second time after configuration) and it now works....self-repair I guess....thanks for the answers anyways!
Problem with WLAN....?.....? Ive always used the WLAN with my phone(with wifi) with no problems. Recently Ive been trying to use it but this is what happens.... I go to my web browser(on my phone)> It asks me to select a access point, I select the wireless network It seems to connect successfully(without a WEP key), but no data is transferred. This also happens on my friends phone It doesnt ask for a WEP key, it still shows the network as a open network. My Phone= Nokia N95-1 Friends phone= Nokia N78 Router= Marconi ADSL Wifi Help Please Thanks
how to stop wifi connection from dropping on a very regular basis/problem is not being caused by interference! I am no newbie with wireless networking, so NO NEWBIE RESPONSES! Computer: Acer Aspire 3002LCI running XP HE SP2 Router Model: Linksys WCG200 V2.0 - all in one cable modem, router, access point, wireless router, and switch. Computer has exceptional wireless signal reception with one of the best internal 802.11B/G cards available. I also use a program that scans the 2.4GHZ spectrum, and I used it through a super-harsh selective process to select channel 8 (this is the BEST channel with regard to reception in my apartment, and there are no networks on adjacent channels) The laptop and router are line-of-sight and 15' apart. The signal strength measured is -48DB. I am almost positive the problem is not due to interference. The DHCP and key renewal occur once per 24 hours. When the connection dies, the "connected" icon remains in the task tray, with no "activity", except when I open it, I can see that the router is sending roughly one packet per second for no aparent reason. I haven't determined either of the two answers to be correct. I am wondering if some kind of wacked out intereference is causing this problem. Maybe I should call the cable company to see if there is something jamming the modem from the cable signal itself?????? This is a two-year old computer though, and whille it is a very cheap entry level notebook, it has never had connection issues. In fact, the card that came stock with it outperforms most laptops I've seen with regard to detecting and holding very weak signals. My dad has a $1500 2006 notebook compared with this 2004 or 2005 $500 model, but he always dropped while mine remained connected. So it's NOT the computer! I am gonna call the cable company and let them deal with this crap..... Does ANYONE have a well-qualified response?
Help with Nintendo DS WiFi!!? I can't set up my WiFi! D: My DS is able to find my wireless network, and I found the WEP key, but when I test the connection I get error code:51300, "Unable to connect to an access point. Confirm Nintendo WFC connection settings and access point settings." I don't know why it wouldn't work except for if I had the wrong WEP. Though I'm pretty sure I have the right one because my dad said that when he installed it, he didn't change any codes or anything. Why won't it work?!
