Wireless Networks.? We have two laptops. One Compaq and the other HP - both new, fast and wirelss capable. We are sitting in the kitchen, computers side by side and the list of wireless networks available are different. Different connections and the individual connections differ in strength. Can anyone explain this. Secondly, we have set up a wireless router - cable - at my inlaws and their wireless router connection isn't the strongest signal. It is in the basement. How can I make their signals stronger?
Wireless networks? OK, I'm hoping someone can help me here. It's a bit of a strange one, and I wouldn't class myself as an expert but here's the problem and what I have done: I have a Sony Vaio and it seems that it is not refreshing the wireless networks regularly, so its failing to connect to my netgear router sometimes. The icon on my start bar will regulary display that there are no networks in range even when they are. Now I know there is'nt a problem with my netgear because it has the most up to date software on it and my PS3 connects to it no problem, first time everytime. It has to be something to do with the wireless drivers on my laptop. I can turn my laptop of and on again and usually this reboots and it will connect to the router, but sometimes, even when my laptop goes into sleep mode, when I click the mouse to reactivate it, it won't find or connect ato a wireless network. I can even flick the wireless switch on the laptop and it won't recognise its off and still say there are networks within range I have: disabled all firewalls and re-enabled them. Attempted to repair the wireless connection, although sometimes the wireless cannot connect to the IP address. Attempted to update the wireless drivers, they are upto date and fine. Checked for virus/errors that could be causing problems, nothing found. Reconfigured the router and input the settings again, several times. I've probably tried a few other things to, just can't remember. It's a confusing one but I'm hoping that one of you techy geezers will have a possible answer. Appreciation shown in the usual way

How to share the same printer between 2 wireless networks? I have two wireless networks at my office. Both networks are totally not concerned or sharing any components with each other. But I have just only one printer which is connected to one computer in the wireless network "A" and I want to let computers in network "B" to share this printer. Is it possible to share this printer this way? Or do I really have to spend some bucks on the new printer? T__T Thank you in advance!!!!!

Is there any simulator for wireless networks in Windows? I am doing a project on Power Conservative Designs in Ad hoc Wireless networks. Now I am in preliminary stage and I have just started to do some analysis. Can you please suggest me some good areas and future courses so that I may be able to work on it. And finally I need to do some simulations on this.
Why did my computer suddenly stop connecting to wireless networks? I have never had any problems connecting to any wireless networks before, but now when I take my laptop somewhere, it will not connect. It can detect the network, but doesn't automatically ask for a password. I have to click a certain button for it to bring up the password field and then it fails to connect. When I click to diagnose the problem, all it says is that it timed out.
How do i get Internet explorer to recognize wireless networks in coffee shops.? I bought a computer and i can't get internet explorer to work on wireless networks. The card will connect to the network but internet explorer will not work with it. I have tried all the wizards and stuff but they will not work. I do not have wireless at home and i just want to be able to connect to public wireless networks when they become available.
How do I prevent my computer from automatically connecting to wireless networks and still be able to click...? How do I prevent my computer from automatically connecting to wireless networks and still be able to click on a preferred network? So, I have internet from the cable company with a wireless router that my laptop picks up. Then, I also use earthlink so I can get internet in the city when I am away from my house. The problem is, when I come home instead of my computer always connecting to the wireless router from my cable company it connects to earthlink, or feather by earth link or wireless Philadelphia. Even if my computer says it is connected to Linksys, when I scroll over the little wireless icon in the bottom right it still says earthlink. I will click available wireless networks and linksys shows up, but after I connect, a second later it goes to earthlink. It is driving me crazy and I can't find a solution so my computer NEVER connects to those networks. I have tried removing them from my preferences, setting it so they do not automatically connect and all that basic stuff. HELP! I already tried all that basic stuff. It didn't work.

Why won't my computer allow me to enter the password for any wireless networks? Nothing shows up in the list of wireless networks. It's all under wifi. I am only able to enter numbers, but the password has both letters and numbers. It's my mom's and step father's network. They told me where the paper with the password was. I can't be any more clear on this. When I try to connect, the network only shows up under wifi. When I try to enter the password I am only able to enter numbers.

My computer has no wireless networks found in range? The hardware is there in device manager and I tried uninstalling drivers and reinstalling. I tried switch new antennae and new internal wireless card. Bluetooth is working fine and wireless button is on. I think it is a software problem. Same nc6230 next to it finds five networks. System restore won't work because the adapter and computer is new and never worked. The last thing I can think of is reinstalling operating system.

Cannot get on public internet wireless networks? When I try to get on a public network like anywhere I go my laptop HP Pavilion Windows Vista has trouble finding networks. As an example a friend and I were at the same place, same time. He found 3 or 4 networks and I found 0. Yes the wireless is turned on and I can find it at certain spots but it's still weak.
Why does my computer loose connection to wireless networks? I know for sure its not the wireless networks, because for example, I'll loose connection and my brother will attempt to use his laptop and he'll be just fine and he won't loose connection. Why could this be??? It doesn't matter which wireless network it is, whether it be mine, my neighbor's, or someone else's I'll log into the wireless network then loose connection a little later and I'll have to either click "Repair" under the wireless network preferences or log in to another network.
Can I save multiple wireless networks and their passwords on my laptop? I recently purchased a laptop that I take with me to my family and friends homes and connect to the internet. I would like to know if I can save their wireless network names and passwords on my computer so that every time I go somewhere I can just choose the network from my list and click connect. I would like to avoid entering the password every time I go to a friends house. I am running windows 7 if that matters. Thanks in advance.
What is the best way to pick up more wireless networks on my laptop? My laptop has built-in wireless, but I was wondering if there was a way to pick up far-away signals. I saw the Linksys Range Expander, but didn't know if it would be useful. Is that product to further expand YOUR own network, or is it to better pick up signal from SOMEONE ELSE's network? Also, are there any known products or software that can help my laptop pick up distant wireless signals or to make signals stronger? Thanks
USB WiFi adapter that can host wireless networks? I need USB WiFi adapter that can create and host wireless networks like Apple's Airport Internet Sharing feature, but it's for a Windows machine? I don't want to go out and buy a wireless router, because I only need to talk between 2 computers.
Can other wireless networks see what has be searched on other networks? Maybe a little confusing! Im curious to know about the security of my computer. If I am looking at personal infomration or banking information on one wireless network, can another wireless network access my prior searches? (If I look at my personal website, turn my computer off, then travel to another network, can the other network see my prior searches?)
My computer wont connect to any of the nearby wireless networks? It's so weird! Ever since I reformatted my laptop, the wireless network has been weird. It won't get any signal from the router located right behind my laptop. So I tried every wireless network that were found, but it still can't connect to any of them. Mind helping me out if this reformatting the computer did anything and how I can fix it? I'm tired of using LAN because I have to keep using the computer in this room, and there are times I need to move it around to another room, but I can't!
Is it possible to connect to multiple wireless networks at once? My house has one wireless network, and my neighborhood has a public network close to my house. Both of them aren't very good. But if I could somehow connect to both at once, the internet connection should be a lot better. Is there a program somewhere to do this? Do I need some kind of wireless card? Or am I just an idiot and this is totally impossible? Thanks in advance!
If I install Windows Ultimate instead of my recovery cds, would windows find wireless networks ? I dont have spare recovery cds for this desktop. If I format then install windows ultimate that I have for this desktop, would windows automatically detect wireless networks even if I dont have the drivers right away but have a built in wireless card? Sorry to sound stupid but how would I find the drivers? Basically getting online with another computer and visiting the hp site I think?
Can I use two wireless Networks on one internet connection to get faster UL/DL speeds? Let's say, hypothetically of course, that I use an unsecured wireless network to connect to the internet. In addition to that, my neighbor also has an unsecured wireless network within range. Could I connect to both at the same time to get a faster internet connection? What about applications like utorrent, or games, (such as counterstrike and America's Army?)
Can I use just 1 wireless adapter to connect to two different networks? Here is what I am trying to do. In my house we have 3 computers wirelessly connected to the internet through a d-link router. What I want to "try" to do is connect to another computer on network in ad-hoc mode so that I can transfer files directly to the other computer instead of transferring them through the router. Im guessing that being connected to the internet through the router and connected to another computer via wireless network card in ad-hoc mode may be impossible at the same time but wouldn't I at least be able to see the SSID of the wireless computer I am trying to connect to via ad-hoc mode?
Will a wireless network extender / access point extend multiple wireless networks? I have a wireless network and so does my neighbor we both have our networks secured. We decided to let each other go on the others network, the reason we did it is because we are using his network for downloading and mine for just internet so the internet is fast. When i look at available networks there are many unsecured networks if i bought a wireless network extender / access point would it extend all the networks?
Why won't my computer detect any wireless networks? All of a sudden my computer stopped detecting any wireless networks, however it does detect computer to computer networks. I did not change any settings, and I know I am in a WIFI area because my roommate is connected to our wireless internet. I've tried restarting my computer and disabling then enabling my wireless connection, and neither helped. Thanks for the help!
Why is my laptop unable to detect any wireless networks? The other 3 computers on my network are working fine, it's just my laptop. Whenever I search for wireless networks it just says that there are none found, when I know for certain there are 4 or 5 in the area including our own one. It was working fine before but suddenly I became disconnected from the network and can't reconnect. Can anyone help please? xout: There was no yellow explnation point on the adapter, but there is a red x over my wireless connection. Ashtom: How do I check that the card is installed correctly?
How do I hard-wire together two wireless networks sharing one broadband connection? I have a D-Link wireless AP router which I am running my cable modem into my WAN port for internet. I want to run hardwired from that network to another wireless AP Router and have that router receive internet as well off of the same connection. Is there a setting I need to use or do I need more commercial type of gear, etc? I know I can configure as a bridge but I don't think that's hardwire friendly, etc.
Can wireless networks reset their encryption codes automatically? My friend says that her cable company said that her wireless router would reset itself periodically for safety. When I set up my wireless network, I set the router and then manually inputted the alpha/numeric encryption code in all the computers that I wanted to have access to the network. Periodically, I manually reset it and manually update the computers in my network. Am I missing something or has my friend been misinformed?
Can you download alternative software to help with connecting to wireless networks? Hi, my boyfriend recently bought a wireless adapter for his computer, the software that came with it is useless though, so it's making it a real hassle connecting to our router. The thing on windows XP isn't very useful either so I was wondering is there some kind of free to download software that helps you to manage your wireless connections and could help? The software that came with it is by Belkin and makes it really hard to set up all the right settings like the password etc, we know the adapter is working because it has picked up our network with full strength.
How do wireless networks work in NYC? I live in NYC, have a laptop and a wireless card. For some time I have been connecting for free to some wireless networks (default, linksys, and wireless). I am lately experiencing problems. Sometimes I see them with a padlock with a message that says 'security enabled', and cannot connect since I do not have the required password. Does anyone know how this works?
Need to find a number sequence list. Of each wireless networks first 3 digits ? Need to find a number sequence list. Of each wireless networks first 3 digits ? * cellphone numbers tell you what provider their a member of. You can find out what network they're apart of by just looking at the first 3 digits of their number * for example: if the first three digits are 027 you know they are on the vodafone network. * for example: if the number is 951-692-5677 we know that 692 will be a verizon network. * so as long as you know which business the first 3 digits associate with , you can know. Where can I find such a list? or website?
Wireless cards pick up different networks? I have 2 computers both with the exact same wireless card. However, they pick up different unsecure networks. I have them sit next to each other and the one computer picks up a beautiful wireless network, the other doesn't see it, why not?
How do I access remote wireless networks with my PC? I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 with a Comcast home wireless network. Once I go ouyside my home with the PC I cannot connect to open networks or do work in places like coffee shops. Am I forgetting to set some functions on my PC? This one is about unsecured wireless networks? When you see an unsecured wireless network in your list of networks available... What do you think is more likely the owner to be? A Hacker, expecting from you to log in into your bank accounts, email, credit card info, etc to get your details from you? or A person who just have no idea about securing their network and have no knowledge at all that their network is set to unsecure?
