How To Boost Wireless Signal On Laptop Knowledge Base

How do I boost my wireless signal on my laptop? I have a wireless b/g internet card (internal) in my laptop but am having trouble picking up wireless networks around my new apartment. Is there a way to boost the range of my laptop so I can find and connect to them?
How do I boost the wireless signal reception on my laptop? Any laptop but mine receives the signal from the router without any problems. Mine on the other hand doesn't receive it at all. Is there any sort of solution to enhance the reception on my laptop? PS: I cannot modify anything to do with the router.
How can one boost a wireless signal they are getting on their laptop? I can pick up a "belkin 54g" signal from somewhere near my house. its public and ive never received a complaint for using it. Is there anyway (or anything i can use) to boost the signal? it has a bad tendency to go "local only" or disappear completely for a few minutes at a time, which becomes real annoying when doing online work.
Can I boost the wireless card signal for my laptop? It has problems keeping the signal.? I use a Linksys 802.11 g wireless card to connect to the internet via wireless router. But my wireless card looses the signal about every 10 seconds, and is gone for a few seconds before coming back on again. This doesn't sound like much of a problem, but it can be really frustrating moving from one page to another, and I frequently loose e-mails when the signal continously goes out. I don't think a "wireless hotspot" or proximity to the router is the issue, because even when the computer and card is right next to the router, the signal still goes out. Is this a problem that can be fixed, and how?
How to boost my wireless signal? I have a BT Home Hub with two Ethernet cable outlets and a wireless aerial. One Ethernet cable is running to my Desktop and the second cable (all 30 meters of it) is connected to my PS3 on the second floor. My laptop uses the wireless aerial. My signal strength on the second floor is 1/5 bars for my laptop. Would it be possible to connect a piece of hardware to the second ethernet cable, such as another router to boost my wirless signal up-stairs. Thanks.
Hello ! Any advice on how to increase wireless signal to a laptop ? I have an HP computer with a built-in 802.11 b/g wireless adapter. I currently live in this big building, a small hotel and my room is on the other side of the office where the router is located. When I sit outside or on the other side of the hotel in the lobby by the window, signal is good, 36 or 54 Mbps, but there is no signal in the room. There's about 2 cartboard walls in between, I suppose. Is there any way I can use some antenna or something to boost my signals so it works in the room as well ??? Much obliged, thanks for your responses
How can i boost the wireless internet signal in my room? i currently play ps3 online wirelessly but i often lag and get disconnected. i recently purchased a linksys router WRT54G ver.2. after days of trying frustration and searching the web i find out that a router alone wont allow me to connect to the internet, so do i need a modem too? Now here is the tricky part. I currently rent a room out of a house and the owners have internet and a modem etc but with other ppl renting rooms i seriously doubt they would want a 50ft. ethernet cable running through the house and into my room. i currently get a wireless signal and can play ps3 games online and sure the net on my laptop but the signal fades in and out without warning and it is very frustrating. the current internet that my landlords have does not require a password so all i can connect no problem, but i really want to boost the signal in my room so i can play for more than 10mins without beingn disconnected. what do i need to do/buy to make this work? can my laptop function as a modem and boost the signall to the router? i am clueless in what i should do any help would be appreciated...

How do I boost my WiFi signal strength on my laptop? Hi, I've got an Acer Aspire 5672wlmi connected to my wireless network at home. However, I never seem to get a strong wireless signal no matter what distance I am from my router. I have an IBM Thinkpad X31 that receives a perfect signal. Both laptops have an internal mini-PCI wireless card. Is there some way I can boost the strength of my wireless signa? I was thinking of installing some programs or going for an antenna. Would that be useful?
how to boost wireless range? the wireless signal in my room is very bad. its the farthest possible place in my house away from the wireless router. is there any way to boost the signal, either the reception on my laptop or sign strength itself on the router? i dont want to buy anything. anywhere else in the house its just fine, but in my room it will sometimes get it and other times lose it and it gets kind of annoying.
Where can I buy a signal boosting card / device for my laptop? I'm in halls at university and the wireless connection is terrible, can I get a device to boost the wireless connection on my laptop? Where from (UK only please) and how much is it likely to cost? Thanks to all who have answered so far! It's a new laptop and I've been to the IT support people - they just said it was configured correctly and they can't do anything about my picking up the signal. I don't have a router in my room - it's the wireless network on the campus.
boosting wireless signal? my wireless in my house is on good days is good, unless you are connected directly to it or sitting in almost the same room then its amazing. my laptop gets a signal pretty well no matter what but my xbox which is across the house and in the basement is rarely gets a good signal. what would be a good trick or product to help get the great signal to my xbox so that i can play online without lag or dropped connections? i know that there are wireless boosters and such but how well will those boost the signal and will the strength stay good all the time? any help would be great.
I use an apple wireless Airport card & connect to the internet through linksys. How can I boost the signal? I have an apple bronze Powerbook (laptop) with OS X (10.3.9).I don't know how, but I am able to get on the internet for free by selecting linksys from the dropdown menu of available airport networks once I have turned Airport on. They did not require a password, so I have been able to hope on their network and use the internet for free. I am aware of the illegality of this. However, I can only get a strong enough signal in one part of my house- my living room. It's kindof looks cluttered and I'd like to move the computer into another room. If I want to move my laptop into another room, the linksys signal is too weak to get on the internet. Is there a way to boost the linksys signal so that I can get on the internet from this other room? I called linksys and they do not sell routers for macs, so I am stumped. Can anyone help me solve my problem without lecturing me?
Is there some way to boost the antennae strength on my laptop computer without buying one of those USB kits? I travel quite a bit and sometimes there are wireless internet signals just out of my range. I have a great laptop with a good antennae but I've heard there are ways to boost your signal without buying a kit or device. Anyone know how?

How would i be able to boost my wireless internet signal to my half of the house? The Internet router is positioned in the office, on the others side of the house. When i play online games on the Xbox 360 or connect to the internet with my ipod/laptop, the connection is never very good. I am thinking of implementing another router on my side of the house or add a booster. How would that work and what should i buy? I'm have been looking around and have spotted the Apple AirPort Express. Would i be able to use this to connect my devices to the internet by plugging it into my side of the house? Would i need another internet line?
How Can I Boost My Wireless Connection On My Laptop? I share a 4G Sprint card with my mother, but she has it more than I do, and I could never connect to the internet, when she has it. On, my wireless networks list, the only one that doesn't require a password is the unsecured linksys network. I don't know whose it is, or where it is coming from, but that's the only option that I have. It is on my preferred networks list, but it rarely ever connects. Every time that it does, the signal strength is always very low. Since, I'm only 16 and I don't have a job, I can't pay for my own internet, and what not. Is there some ease and inexpensive way for me to increase my signal strength? Thank you, in advance!! Sorry, I meant to put easy instead of ease. I have an HP with XP, if that helps.
Just added a wireless printer to my wireless network, great. Laptop was right beside the new printer...? and worked fine. Put the printer on the second floor, normally use the laptop on the first floor, tested it and......no go. How can I amplify or boost the signal from my laptop or should I try to increase the receptivity on the printer? Can this be done?
How to increase WIFI range on a Laptop? Borrowing wireless signals from the public w/ a laptop but need a inexpensive way to boost those signals.
Help with wireless internet low signal....? I've just moved in to the granny flat that my parents have built on the side of their house and the wireless signal does not reach through to my house. Can anyone tell me how to boost the signal or is there anything I can use on my laptop to make it work? I don't think it's far off working cos my Mum managed to get her laptop to work while at mine. Must have a better wireless card than me...? Thanks for any suggestions.
How do I boost the range of my Netbook's wireless reach? I have an MSI Wind netbook. I notice that in different places, my netbook doesn't receive signals from wireless routers while other, regular sized laptops, DO receive the signal. I've seen my netbook and a friend's Acer Aspire One netbook not receive signals even though it is evident that the wireless router's signal DOES in fact reach that place. So, any device on newegg or other site that I can put on my netbook to extend/boost its wireless reach??? or Any settings I can tinker with that will make the wireless capabilites stronger (eg. To be more powerful and reach signals from farther away) on the netbook? Thanks to all in advance. I mean that I don't receive signals because the netbook is too far away from the router (I'm mostly concerned about this in my workplace). BUT, other laptops (full size) DO get signals where I am but my MSI Wind doesn't. S, any help? Ok, so finally, can someone recommend one from the newegg.com websitre that is "cheap", in the sense that is is around $40 or less.
How can I boost my internet signal without new hardware? Here is the problem. I'm in a two story house, with wireless Internet flowing through a Netgear CG814WG wireless gateway. On the first floor connection is fluid mostly used for netbooks and laptops, from other family members. The second floor, however, suffers of a low 5.5 mbps connection from anywhere upstairs. I'm trying to connect a desktop and a wii with an excellent wireless connection from the second floor. In able to assist with extending the wireless signal I have a belkin wireless g router (F6D4230-4 v1) purchased before moving in. How can I boost the signal for the second floor to be as good as the signal on the first floor without additional equipment. TO further add the router can be used as an access point however it is not receiving the internet. I cannot run extra wire through the house. The router is a year old, and though I receive 5.5 mbps, It's at a low signal that drops occasionally.
Can you tell me a way to increase wireless strength on a laptop? First let me state to the army of trolls out there; (You know who you are) That my neighbor and I have agreed that I may use his wireless. Neither of us care about the laws about this, He leaves it open because he likes to think that he aids the community. It's nothing like stealing a car, He can still use it, My use has never inhibited his. (Who came up with that anyway?) With that out of the way, (Though someone will still bitch at me about it) How can I make an antenna to boost my reception of his signal from my home? What metals are sensitive to wireless signals? and why are you still reading this if you're just going to bitch about the legal ramifications to me? Really! If you're that bored on the internet just go play a game or something! Please help me or find something better to do!
How can I extend the range of my wireless network? Im on home network that connects the phone line to a computer and a wireless router. Then the router connects one laptop to the network. I don't understand much about network computing, but I'm not a complete beginner either. I have a computer with wireless that is too far away from the router to pick up the network but I also have a spare router. Can I set up this router in any way to boost my wireless signal. I know you can buy wireless signal boosters but i want a way of doing it with the router.
I have a Gateway W34OUA laptop which has built in wifi...? Unfortunately our wireless router (Belkin Wireless G + MIMO) must be in our far bedroom, and we get a very low signal on our laptop in the living room. any suggestions on how to boost the signal? Will purchasing a wireless notebook card pick up the signal better, or does the wireless router just suck. The wireless router is only about 60 feet away, but obviously the signal has to go through the bedroom walls. Thanks for any help.
How Can i Boost My PS3 Signal Strengh?!? i live in the UK and have sky broadband with 30mps a month the sky wireless router is at the front door downstairs i cannot get any signal strengh except for 1 or 2 bars from it in my bedroom my laptop on the other hand can manage to hop between 3 and 4 bars but my ps3 wont connect and when it does it stays on bar 3 so u can imagine the torture this is on modern warfare 2 when i carn't get into a game is their anyway to boost the signal so it can go up the stairs and into my room, every other bedroom and room in the house gets internet yet if u go into my room the connection drops to 3 bars any help?
how can I boost my incoming wifi signal? Where I live, I am supposed to get free wifi internet. However, the router is located in another building, probably 100 feet away and I can never seem to connect to it. I currently have to use someone else's signal that I do not even know, and even that signal is weak. I have a 2 year old Inspiron 1545 laptop, running windows 7, and the wireless card is listed as DELL WIRELESS 1397 802.11g HALF MINI CARD. I don't know if this card is any good or not, but since it is in a laptop, I have been told I need to buy a usb signal booster. My question is, is there any way to build an antenna or booster that will work? I've seen many claims from people saying that they built an antenna that worked, but they had the actual router in the same house as the computer, I need to boost my incoming signal; I do NOT have access to the router......how can this be done on a limited budget?
Which Router Should I Get Or Can I Replace My Laptops Wireless Card? I dont know much about laptops and dont know much about wireless, routers etc. My laptop brand new would pick the internet up outside in my garden, now sometimes it struggles to get a good connection just in my bedroom, normally get around 3 bars now but alot of disconnects, dads laptop is fine, so is the xbox so pretty sure router is fine, (I took my laptop to pc world few months ago because of a free check-up, told them the problem, it seemed to work a bit better once I got it back which took like 2 months. But now its just annoying as the problem has come back. So I was thinking of buying a new router to help boost the signal around the house, mostly for my laptop and Xbox. I currently have the virgin media router which is.... http://www.ebuyer.com/product/48546 and was considering buying... http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142702 I didn't no what a Wireless-N Router was till yesterday but I found out my laptop and xbox dont support -N only support G, But If its backwards compatible would it still give a stronger signal even on G mode ? My budget is around £40, Any help much appreciated I've also tried changing channels on my router and on channel 11 at moment which no one else is on which didn't seem to help at all. My laptop cant even find other people's networks, where as it use to... and my dads can find at least 8 or 9 other networks. Just another small question: Can anyone explain how you go about picking the correct router and how to tell distance, quality of the signal and router. Etc ? Also can a laptop wireless card be changed your self? My laptop is the Advent 5431 "http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/5431.htm" I've seen people selling the network card on ebay which is strange, so could I just replace the network card with a better one from ebuyer. Sorry this question is so long and probably didn't make much sense. Thanks for any help in advance. Thanks for your useless information? Thanks bon-gart .. guy above.. total idiot lol. I looked at my router and the Antenna had a grey wire attached to it once I pulled it out, How would I go about changing it? Unless Virgin have made it to not be changed?
How to setup wireless access point to primary wireless router ? details inside - need help from techies? hey guys, ok here is the deal. Moving to a new home and it has 3 floors. I am using a linksys wrt54g as primary, and I have a netgear wpn824 collecting dust. I don't think the linksys will have strength to reach all floors so i wanted to see if i can do a wireless router to wireless router access point to give the basement a boost in connection, is that possible ? I know how to setup and have setup access points but in the past i've always plugged router1 into lan port on wireless router/AP. This is different because i'm doing wireless to wireless. So main floor will have cable modem, and linksys wireless, i was hoping i can somehow connect the WPN netgear somewhere on the stairs ceiling to connect to the primary (linksys wireless) and give me more signal downstairs. Is that possible? I've disabled DHCP on 2nd router, and I can connect to it via wireless, but i can't get internet access and i can't ping the primary router so i dont think the wireless portions are connected, meaning i dont think the wireless router 2 is connected to wireless router 1. I've tried adding a static route on router 2 but that didnt work. Do you guys think it's worth setting up for the boost, or will it not even work. here is schematic. Main floor - cable modem, wireless router - router is 192.168.1.1 desktop PC is plugged into wireless router via cat5 basement, i want to have netgear router to boost signal, and was going to wirelessly connect laptop to the netgear (2nd wireless) and then get internet access through wireless connection through the linksys (1st router on main floor). Possible? or is the signal going to be the same even if i get the wireless router 2 to even connect? any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful at this point. Thank you.
How can I share a wireless connection without cables.(Wirelessly)? Is there any possible way to share a wireless connection between two computers without an Ethernet cable. My desktop computer can pick up the signal of the wireless router because I have an antenna on the back of it that increases signal range. I can access router settings if I need to set up a DNS or something like that not sure how it works. While my laptop can barely pick up the signal OCCASIONALLY. Is there a way I could use my desktop to boost or share the signal with laptop?
can i use a second wireless router as a signal booster? Im using a belkin router and have a spare 3com us robotics one, and the problem that i have is that on the far side of my house, where i use one of my laptops, and also i use my ps3, there is very weak signal and the ps3 cannot connect to it, i want to know if, and if so, how can i use the second router to boost the signal to this other room in my house, i cant move my belkin one as the broadband conection in my house is fixed in one place. if anyone could Help...please
how can i get my laptop to receive a better connection on Wi-Fi? my internet was working fine until recently, i messed with the wireless router a little and it seemed to get a little better but not like it used to be. are there any tips or tricks i can use to boost the signal?
acer aspire 4315 can not connect on its own to wireless signals? I am back to using my Acer Aspire 4315 as the screen 'mysteriously broke' on the Acer emachine netbook I bought in April. (it was sitting on the table it always does, opened it up and there was a blob in the corner and lines running across) Basically, I have to have another computer in the room that is connected to the wireless network in order for the Aspire to find the available signals and connect. I have already installed driver updates, made sure the radio is connected, switched off the power save option and made sure the computer was set for infrastructure. None of these actions have helped. Anyone with any advice on how I can get this laptop to seek out available wireless signals on its own would be terrific. My roommate is definitely getting tired of having to give me a "boost". Of course, Acer has the most terrible customer service going and will neither honor the warranty on the netbook nor tell me how to fix the problem my old Aspire has with finding a wireless signal on its own without "paying" for the assistance. Grrrrr. Boris22 - I have tried that. The problem is, without a jump I don't get any wireless networks at all, which is what I'm trying to fix. Thank you though ;)
win7 wireless adapter d-link. how do i make it work? I have just got a new desktop with windows 7 on it. I need to boost my internet wireless connection so I bought a Wireless G USB adapter DWA-110. I can install it and everything and the wireless connector recognizes that the signal has been boosted. But when i try to run the program it says that I have to connect the driver. So my comp realizes that there is a USB connected but it can't run it. Can anyone give me easy to understand step-by-step instructions of how to make it work. i.e. how do I install a patch or whatever to make it work. I tested the usb on my laptop (Vista) and it works fine. So it is a windows 7 issues. Can anyone please help. Thanks i hav unistalled and then re-installed many times and that doesnt help. :)
Setting up a wireless repeater? I have a desktop that has a modem and router connected to it in one room. I bought a wireless repeater to boost the signal throughout the house. The guide tells me to connect the wireless repeater to the router with an ethernet cable. How can I set this up wirelessly, so that the repeater can be connected to the router, wirelessly? Is the setup process with the repeater being hard lined to the router only for the initial setup? And also, if the initial hard line connection is only temporary, when I am finished, can I move the repeater anywhere and just turn it on, then laptops and such will be able to pick up its signal wirelessly? Thanks for any help
Wireless router/modem question...? Here in my house we have 4 devices that connect with our wireless router. 2 computers, a phone, and an xbox360. I'm on a laptop in the back of the house, about 40 feet from the wireless router, which is right next to the modem. The modem is directly connected to our other desktop computer. When someone gets on the desktop computer and downloads something, anything, my internet connection from the wireless router goes to 0. I have a hard time understanding this because I had also just recently purchased a wireless router extender, so my computer says it has full signal, yet I can't do anything. I don't know much about how all of this stuff works, but I thought the extender would boost the signal and keep this from happening. Is there a way to stop my signal loss? It's really getting old... especially since it's my brother doing it and he usually does it when I'm having to do research for class. Any help is appreciated!
How to best improve the signal strength of my router!? Hi so I have been looking up on how to improve my signal strength of my router and possibly my PCI Ethernet adapter. Basically I have just bought a computer and built it myself, primary using components bought at novatech.co.uk The Ethernet PCI component that i purchased was £20 and has a 5Star rating (with 89 ratings) and 15 reviews all positive. Because of this I believe it is more likely my router which is causing the problems. My VAIO laptop often has a very good or better signal strength but still occasionally looses connection. My desktop pc however only ever gets a poor quality signal. Despite this it is still able to connect to the internet but the reception is very choppy and it is not in a position that i can rely on it for research and certainly not for MMO gaming. I have looked up options and there are many DIY ways involving hairclips and aluminum foil which aparently boosts the signal. Is this worth trying? if so can anyone link me to a decent guide? I have also heard of wireless repeaters which "bounce the signal" boosting it. They however are rather expensive. Is it worth buying one of these? Furthermore my PCI card has detachable antena's so i assume I can buy a lot bigger ones for a better connection. If anyone can answer my questions and provide new routes to improving my connection please do say!
Laptop Internet Connection Problem? Hi, i recently bought a new laptop (Toshiba don't know exact model) and the internet works perfectly until i go upstairs. I get 54 Mbps downstairs (where my wireless network adapter is) however when i go up to my room i only get 12-18 Mbps and then the internet eventually crashes, even though my laptop says there isn't anything wrong with the connection (even connection doctor doesn't show up any problems) . I know its not to do with my router as my mothers advent net book gets 54 Mbps in my room. Please are there any suggestions on how i can boost my signal or even a way i can just get the same connection upstairs. Any and all help appreciated :) thanks.
How can i improve my mobile phone signal? hiya i am with Orange (UK) and i live in an area where the mobile phone signal is not so good. i have a wireless router and i use it when i bring my laptop or my Android smartphone to my room but it would be nice it the signal was that good. i heard and read that it might be a while before Orange "shares" it's 3G/HSDPA signal with T-mobile (the latter's signal being excellent everywhere i go especially at work) and vice versa but i don't know. the coverage checker on the company's website is still "open for discussion" meaning they don't tell you the truth. should i stick with Orange? wait till next year? i heard there is a device that you put inside your phone in order to "boost" the signal? is this true? how about those mi-fi device? will it work on me? where can i buy them? please help.
Xbox live different type of connection? ok i had a question previously that was answered by someone, but i don't know how to do what they said to do, can anyone help me? their response was "the 360 adapter can only use abg wireless signals not N, so boost power to the 2.4 ghz signal (for bg) or the 5.8 GHz (for a). i bridged my laptop and use that N connection to play on live. how do i do this so i can get a good connection? heres the link to the previous question http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AmOlcfAgMSd0grEXnPdgN5Hty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090327182407AA8bMIB I do have the wireless adapter for my 360 and I can still pick up the N connection just not very well. I want to improve my connection with the wireless one
How do I set up my Belkin Wireless Extender with my Apple Airport? I'm trying to boost the range of my wireless network at home and using the Belkin as a wireless repeater. I set up the Extender, and it shows as being connected to my wireless network. And when I view available wireless networks on any computer, the SSID of the Extender shows up and the signal is strong. But when I try to connect, it's not assigning me a real IP address, so I have limited or no connectivity. I keep getting the 169.254.etc... address on my laptop.
Where do I goto in Vista to change from "B" mode for my connection speed? Why is my Vista desktop showing an internet speed of only 11mbps? My XP laptop is showing low wireless Belkin signal but yet has a speed from my cable modem thru Belkin router of 56mpbs.....but my desktop , that is right beside it, shows a stronger wireless signal from the Belkin, yet it shows only 11mbps. Maybe it has something to with my "TCP" setting? How do I fix this problem of it only being 11mbps on my desktop? THanks Dell 531s, 3gigs of ram, Vista Wireless G mimo adapter, the same adapter as my laptop but with the vista driver instead of the xp driver that my laptop has.....the laptop is super fast, yet much older and with xp, I cannot get the desktop to go above 11mbps...Please advise. thanks THEN I GOT THIS ANSWER; Your desktop must have only a "B" wireless adapter, it will only go up to 11mbps. That is usually fast enough for internet, but slow for PC to PC transfers. Or, the adapter settings are set such that it is set to B mode only in its "properties". Or, you have some "speed boost" function turned on in the router that the adapter does not understand, and it falls back to B mode.

My internet is REALLY bad. Help? Okay, I've got a D-link wireless router/modem, (I don't know the difference). And I'm not sure whether it's my Routers fault or what, but I can barely get an internet connection on my PS3/Laptop when I'm in my room. My internet service provider is AOL (Very bad, I know) I've tried ringing their customer support, but they don't get anything sorted. And the biggest problem is that whenever I turn my laptop on, I can't play online on the PS3, this is a BIG issue. please help. I've had suggestions in the past to move my wireless router, but I don't know how to do it, I've plugged everything into the phone socket in my room, and connected the filter and all that stuff, but It wont work. any suggestions on how to boost my signal strength, or mover my router, or most importantly, tell me what you think the problem is. It's REALLY annoying that whenever someone goes on that laptop it makes the bad internet so bad, that I just get signed out on the PS3. I have tried reseting my router numerous times, and no luck. Do you think it's the router or what, anything you can think of will be okay. Thanks in advance!
how to boost a wifi signal? i bought a laptop, and it has built in wireless. at home it works great, because we have every computer in the house on it. but when i take it to work, i can only very rarely pick up a strong enough signal to actually connect to the internet. im not even on it right now because there is no wireless in the building im in, i just happen to pick up a signal from down the street every once and a while. so is there any way i can easily boost the signal im getting? like, anything i can connect to MY end of things to make it easier to obtain the signal? i cant actually connect any wires to my work computer/modem, so buying a cable is almost certainly out of the question... ps, i am positive that i am not stealing anyone elses signal, the wireless i manage to connect to once and a while is in a free hotspot, im JUST out of range to get it consistantly does that cell phone thing really work? like, it sounds so bizzare i almost HAVE to try it but i dont wanna wreck my phone/laptop cause they both cost entirely too much : S good answers so far folks, keep em coming. im not exactly great at the technical know how, but i want lots of answers so i can show my fiance and he can help figure out what is best/easiest. this is the laptop i have if it helps at all http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9172511&type=product&id=1218043606827

Can I use my laptop to boost my wireless signal? I know this sounds like a stupid question but I'm wanting to use my laptop to boost the wireless signal that it receives - does anyone know if there is any way to do this? Sorry all - I really didn't go in to enough detail there. I'll explain fully now. The problem is that for some reason I just cannot get the xbox to connect using my wireless network - I've tried everything. The way that I get round this is to connect my laptop to the wireless and then use an ethernet cable to connect my laptop to my xbox 360. I then share the wireless network connection and this allows the xbox to connect. However, even though signal remains good or better the xbox just randomly kicks me out of live matches - doesn't disconnect me from Live, just drops connection to the game (and kicks me out of a Live party if connected). The wireless network connection remains stable so I wondered if I'd get more success from somehow connecting the xbox to the laptop and using the connection that way - rather than using a LAN cable connected to a wireless network?

The problem is,I can only get a decent signal if I'm in the living room (at the front of the house). If I move to any other room I get nothing. Can I add a second modem to boost my wireless signal for my PS3 ? My problem is like most , weak wireless signal for my Playstation 3. My wireless router is upstairs and at the other end of the house and my PS3 is in the basement and I can't get a wire from the router down stairs. I have a cable modem with my router and I have cable in the basement . Moving the modem down stairs would make for a weak for the laptop upstairs , any help would be great.
Is there some sort of signal booster for my laptop which already has a wireless card? Ok so I live in the dorms and they have the ethernet cord thing, but the internet is really slow. But there's also this campus-wide wireless that my laptop can connect too from my room, but the signal is only one bar and and there's not much you can do with that. Is there something that i can connect to my laptop that will boost the signal from where my room is? Or does that require doing something to the campus wireless system, which is probably illegal to tamper with. And the wireless signal is like 16 times faster, that's why I want to be able to connect to the wireless rather than the slow ethernet cord internet that they provide here.

How can I boost my laptops wireless card's range? I live in a building that's wired up for wireless internet. I have two wireless cards: A) whatever came with it a few years ago and B) a recent purchase:Netgear WN511B RangeMax NEXT Wireless Notebook Adapter (suppose to be an 11n) Our unit is 1 bedroom- about 700 sqft. We get a great signal in the main hallway outside our unit and a pretty good to decent signal in the kitchen (closest room to the hallway) but nothing when we move into the living room (about 10 feet from the kitchen). The network technician for our building says he just hooked up a router at our end of the hallway, but we have zero improvement in our signal. You would think that if a new router was placed at our end that there would be at LEAST 1 or 2 Mbps improvement. But I don't know. He suggested that it was a laptop/hardware issue because laptops don't put out as much power to conserve battery life. Maybe, I don't know. I don't know much about wireless network, but I'm learning. Thank you. By the way- it seems that i connect to another computer. I think that's what I'm connecting too... "Havoc Enabled", computer to computer, or something like that. I'm completely ignorant to this stuff and I'm at work so I can't look it up. But when connected to this/ in this mode, it has a laptop symbol beside that choice and has a connection rate of 130Mbps, but doesn't allow the internet browser to work. The other network connection is prompted with an antenna as a router, but has a very, very weak signal. Unless we are in the hall or kitchen, of course sorry, that was Ad Hoc not Havoc
Device that boosts wireless signal? Our laptops disconnect from the wireless network frequently in our basement. It is annoying because we spend a lot of time downthere. However there is no space for us to move our desktop with the wireless router down to the basement. Does anyone know of a device that will get us a stronger signal in our basement? If you could provide the link to the product or the name and model that would be great. Thanks.
Does Having a wireless router connected to your laptop enhance your laptops default wifi signal? can the router receive signals so you're able to use other peoples wifi with better signal for you? Or, do you have to buy the usb adapter to boost your wifi capabilities?
How can I boost the signal of my Verizon PC750 aircard? I am using my laptop inside a building with lots of metal obstructions and a weak wireless signal. Is there a booster that will help my situation?
Borrowing neighbors wireless signal how can I boost the signal? I talked to my neighbor and they said it would be okay if I used their wireless internet, I give them 5 bucks here or there. My laptop has a wireless card and all that but no matter where I am in my apartment I can barely catch a signal. I get like 5.5 mbps. When I am in their apartment I get 54 mbps. Is there anything I can buy for my laptop that will help me catch a stronger signal? I'm a nerd of many things but I dont know what to do about internet connections. The 5.5 mbps works... but it is frustrating to be in the middle of something and the signal cuts out because i moved my laptop 2 feet. Well someone just said I need an antenna to boost the signal. I need names for these things. What kind of antenna, name brands etc. they have a netgear rangemax router.

The only room I can use my laptop in is surrounded by concrete blocks. I can only get a very low signal occasionally and I can never get online.
