What is the best service provider and cell phone with NO data plan? Hey everyone, I'm due to renew my cell phone contract and I'm having some trouble deciding what to do. Here is my situation: I currently have Sprint as my service provider and my phone is a LG Lotus. I don't get that great of signal where I'm living right now and am considering ditching Sprint all together. Although, they do have the AirRave which would likely help with the low signal at my house (everywhere else, city, etc. I get great signal). I would have to pay $18 to activate it and lock in to another 2 yr. contract if I opted for that, which is fine since I would be getting a new phone anyway and renewing my contract anyway. The other thing is that I was checking out Sprint phones that don't require a data plan and they all had pretty bad reviews. I'm not opposed to spending $150 or even $200 on a good phone that is dependable and going to last. I paid $150 for the Lotus 2 yrs. ago and it has been great other than the battery life isn't what it used to be. It seems to me that all of the good, quality phones in current times all require a data plan and you have to put up with a piece of junk otherwise. I'm assuming its the service providers' way to boost revenues, but at this time my budget isn't allowing me to help them there haha. The main service providers where I live are Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. As far as me switching from Sprint, my friend has Verizon and when he's been over here he doesn't get any signal either (they don't offer any type of signal booster like Sprint - that I know of), but my friend with AT&T gets great signal, also I've heard some bad things about AT&T's signal. Apparently I must live in some kind of dead-zone. So, what would you recommend I do? Anyone had positive experiences with T-Mobile or are there any decent "basic" phones that AT&T is currently offering? Have I only read the bad reviews about the Sprint phones (I was looking at the LG Rumor Touch and Lotus Elite - I saw a lot of complaints about them getting worse signal than the phone I have now)? Should I just keep my old phone and get a new battery along with the AirRave and sign another 2 yr. contract? If you read all of that, thank you and I appreciate your feedback.

my cell phone has really poor reception in my house.? i have a steel roof on my house and everyone in my family has poor reception inside. is there like a signal booster or something that we can buy to help us out? we all use t-mobile if that helps. thanks! nobody gets reception here...
AT&T mobile internet card connection is slow? I just got my AT&T mobile broadband card in the mail today. I set everything up, and got connected to the internet. It's really slow! According to my computer I'm only connected at 3.6Mbps. It takes about a min to load a simple internet page, and the card is only connecting at 2G level (no 3G service in my area). I live way out in the woods, and we have to use a cell phone booster to get signal at the house. I'm in the Grand Rapids MN area. Is there anything I can do to speed up this "slower than dial up" connection?
How to cancel t-mobile plan? My family and I are moving about 200 miles away and our new home is located in an area that has no cell service. Customer service told me that there is no cell service within 7 miles and that the only thing they can do is offer me a signal booster so I will be hopefully able to use my cellphone while at home. With this I will not be able to use the internet etc. only voice. I am also having difficulty with my phone... again. The main speaker is broken again so I can only hear on speaker phone so they are replacing the handset again but it just seems like with no service and about to be working on my 3rd phone in under a year there has to be a way to get out of this plan without paying a termination fee. I almost forgot I have also asked 2 customer service reps and a supervisor for a copy of my contract and they have all stated they no longer have it and can not provide a copy. Could this be a way out and if so how or what needs to be said. I also was on the phone for hours with the 3 of them trying to get them to cancel for the lack of service in the area but they said they stopped that a year ago. I signed my contract on November 27, 2010 so I have the 2010 contract version. Is it this one or is it the 2008 that states its a reason to cancel with no EFT?
Would multiple 3G phones setup as multiwan increase data speeds? We live in an area where we cannot get DSL or Cable. The only options we have for internet are satellite, sprint or verizon 3G at 200-600kbps, AT&T at 1.5-3Mbps (but with a 4-5GB cap), a $500 T1 line, dial up, or a "fixed wireless" signal, supposably at 1.5Mbps. I'm skeptical about the fixed wireless, and not sure if I want to spend the money to get started. My other option is this... Our neighbor who lives a mile down the road can get DSL, yet we cannot. The telephone company does not seem to want to work with me in getting coverage here so I could get one or two dsl connections at our neighbor's place, and install an antenna on their roof, and one on ours. Problem is it'll take $300-$400 to get started, and I don't know how I can talk our neighbors into letting us do it. For now I really need a internet connection. I use my sprint phone, which can share its connection to my laptop but its slow. I average about 300kbps or so but with latency between 200 and at times as much as 3000. I think the problem is that I get such a weak signal the phone is constantly searching for a signal. Often I can see it coming in and out of coverage. I thought about installing a cell phone booster, but most if not all are made to take the outdoor signal and bring it indoors. The signal is about the same outdoors as it is indoors, so this will not help. That said, I've been thinking about getting 4 virgin mobile phones and going with the $25 unlimited plan. It runs on the sprint network, and it'll get about the same speeds as I get with my HTC EVO 4G. Although I've worked with a lot of routers before, and I've made my own router before, I've never done multi wan. I'm curious, four 200kbps connections doesn't make one 800kbps connection, does it?? If anything, I know having two will help because most of the delay is spent in the cell phone searching for a signal. Maybe having two to choose from will help. However, they come from the same tower. Its either that or I go with AT&T. Unless I just get a data plan, I'd have to unlock my htc evo and change that over to AT&T, and pay sprint $200 for canceling. Either way, sprint is unlimited and AT&T is not.
