Wireless Signal Boosters

Cell Phone Repeater Knowledge Base

Can I use my wireless network adapter as a cell phone repeater? I've been reading around and been looking at cell phone repeaters and they are expensive. I have a wireless network adapter and I was just wondering if this is possible.
Will a Cell Phone Repeater Help My Signal? I'm in an area with plenty of towers...reception is not a problem OUTSIDE of my office building. The problem is, the roof of the building is a steel-type roof that does not let cell phone service in/out very well. Immediately when I step outside, the signal is fine. So - does a repeater help such a situation, or am I just screwed like I assume?
the right variant of cell phone repeater? I hope there are among you people who have already bought a cell phone repeater. Explain me, please, how to choose the right variant for my office
We (my girlfriend and I) are looking to get a cell phone repeater. What is the best one out there? We have tmobile, verizon and att coming. We just bought a house at the bottom of this hill where there is no reception. Every once in a while a message will come thru while I am out getting the mail, or the occasional voice message makes it thru but other than that total dead zone. We would like to know what the best repeater for our money is. Anybody out there have any good experiences with these things? Jeff
Cell Phone Repeater Booster Kit? I thinking of buying a "Digital Powermax" Cell Phone Booster/Repeater for my home that gets coverage only in certain spots and never constantly. Does anyone have any experience with this product or other like it? Do they work? I would love to be able to cancel my home phone service and just use my cell phone. If it does work, it would pay for itself in less than six months. Thanks. Below is a link to the product I'm considering. http://cgi.ebay.com/L-K-DIGITAL-POWERMAX-PERSONAL-1ROOM-CELL-PHONE-BOOSTER_W0QQitemZ370019742799QQihZ024QQcategoryZ20336QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
How many cell phones a repeater can support? We are planning to buy a mobile phone repeater for the office, it is about 400 square meters. Does anybody know how many cell phones a repeater can support?
Recommendations for a cell phone repeater/signal booster? I've recently started living in an area that gets lackluster cell phone coverage (thanks to the township's reluctance to put up enough towers). Everyone in the house has Verizon wireless service. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced ($300ish or less?) repeater or signal booster? And not one of those bits you slip into the body of the phone, a real unit. It doesn't need to cover a ton of space, we just want one or two rooms where we can receive a phone call reliably. Any and all advice is appreciated. With our luck, they'll just build another tower by the time we figure out what to do.
Is there a low cost (< $300) cell phone repeater for home use where signal strenght is low? Need a solution for Verizon voice and EVDO coverage at a mountain cabin
How can I get cell phone reception in my basement? Can I create a repeater? I want to create a repeater type contraption so that I can get cell phone reception in my basement. It has to be possible, clone a SIM card to authenticate to the server or just echo the cell phone signal or something.
Will Cell Phone Repeaters close to my house give me cancer? I have these cell phone repeaters on the roof of a building ajecent my house, its about 100 meters away and about 150 feet up. There are two of them, and they belong to a local cell phone company, so they are cellular repeaters. They stand about 30 feet tall, and have some dishes and antennas on them. Besides from making me tired and giving me headaches, will these things eventually give me cancer?
Cell Phone repeater for my house? HI guys, I am moving to a new house in a few months and I get very poor reception there (one bar at best). Is there a quality repeater I could mount on my roof that would improve reception? I have Verizon if that makes a difference (I know they use CDMA unlike the rest of the world). Price isn't a factor to me (cheaper is obviously better but I don't want to sacrifice a good repeater that will boost signal significantly for one that doesn't work as well). Thanks!
Did you ever try a Cellular repeater for better cell phone service? If so where can i get one for cheap? I have Verizon and its good but lately i have like no service. I am going to get a new phone so would that make my service better instead? Also if anyone answers this question i will give you best answer- http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjkZ8KcdCO984nfXHiZ0P.Xsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110104135230AA2yzIs
bad cell phone signal in metal builing? I have a 30x50 Metal builing with doors closed I get no signal. Is there a Cell phone repeater or something I could ues to get better signal?
Repeater for cell phone? I have Verizon and get some signal in the hills where I live, not in the house, but right out the front door. I would like to try a repeater, what type is needed for Verizon? There is no cell coverage here. We had AT&T and actually, we have better coverage with Verizon. Looking to ditch the landline and use cell phones. You know, the money issue.
why not my cellphone repeater cannot work? I just only bought a new cell phone repeater it is the new one i bought from our supplier. How can i deal with it?
Where can I buy cell phone boosters/repeaters in Canada? Are they legal? I see several American dealers, but I'd like to avoid international shipping if I can.
has anyone ever used Cell Phone Car Mount Antenna Booster & Repeater? http://www.amazon.com/Cellet-Phone-Antenna-Booster-Repeater/dp/B000KNNKVS/sr=8-21/qid=1167883965/ref=sr_1_21/002-6171436-9530428?ie=UTF8&s=wireless this link is an example i am just wondering if this thing really works!
why doesn't my verizon repeater work with linux? my verizon cell phone repeater routed from my gateway 2wire stopped working when i changed from a windows operating system to a linux operating system. i have basic dsl service from att. what do i do?
Passive cell repeater antenna? I asked this in "Cell Phones" but didn't get any legit response. Hopefully you electronics folks will be more helpful. I have seen some “passive repeater” products designed for vehicles that consist of an antenna that sits on top of another smaller device located inside a vehicle that re-transmits the signal. Some of these boast of a 6db gain. I would like to be able to do the same sort of thing but using an existing “yaggi” antenna as the source with the smaller “passive repeater” unit placed such that I can get reasonable wireless reception in an immediate "base camp" area. I am not interested in spending several hundred bucks on an active repeater that requires external power. I am, however, willing to purchase one of the passive automobile repeaters and hack it such that it uses the existing “yaggi” as the source signal. Any practical advice on how to make this work? Any pointers to low cost passive repeater products that have a connection for an external antenna?
How to boost cell phone signal in a room? Hey everyone, I was wondering if there is a cheap way to boost cell phone signals. I am currently in a basement, and get 2 bars by the window. My signal drops as soon as get away from the window. I looked at some repeater that will extend the signal, but they were over $200. So let me know if anyone knows of a cheap way to extend the signal for cell phone. btw rite now I have cingular plan so I am on the gsm network.
anyone use a cellular phone booster in their home? We live in a remote area and lose our signal often. I was considering purchasing a wireless repeater/cell phone booster. If anyone has used one and can recommend an economical brand/model OR if anyone thinks they are "useless," the information is appreciated.
how can i improve my cell phone reception? I read something on the AOL website that suggested when you need to use your phone in areas with very poor reception, you may want to consider purchasing a repeater or signal booster. What is a repeater? Where can I get this kind of technology for my envy?
How do I improve cell phone reception in remote areas? Hi all, I have severed my land line and use my cell phone exclusively at home. I am in remote area of Western NC and suffer from dropped calls and poor reception. I have read some reports on repeaters and amplifiers but they use terminolgy I'm not familar with. ie PCS, 800mHz or other, I use a local company called Ramcell and they were unable to help. What equipment do I need and where is the best place to purchase it at. TIA
Do any of those cell phone antenna boosters work? How much do I need to pay to get a good one. I get reception everywhere but my house. I really don't want to pay 300 for a fuckingg repeater.
I have a lap top with wifi.I also have a nokia cell phone with wifi.? Is there way to set up a repeater. router->laptop->cell phone Is there a configuration to extend the range of the phone.. My cell phone has sip voip.I
Trying to figure out how to get cell phone reception at my house? Hello, my name is Brittany. I have an AT&T cell phone. I live in a very rural and mountainous area. I get cell phone service in all directions around my house...but only when I am within a mile or so away. My house is in the perfect dead zone...it is in an area of about 2 miles of no reception...in between two mountains in the front and back...but there are cell phone towers around my area. But I am told that there are things like amplifiers, antennas, and repeaters for your cell phone that can make your cell phone get 5 bars in a no-bar dead zone. I cannot afford anything over $100, however. Do these really work? What kinds are the best? And how much do they cost? Is there anything else I can do to help this problem? I have a motorola go phone. It cost me 20 dollars. Its not old, but its not new either.
Any kind of cell phones that will work, short range, without a cell tower network? Suppose we have two cell phones, of the same make and same brand. We are within a distance of each other, equivalent to being inside the same cell, but we are far outside a cell network. Are the transmitters in the phones strong enough to reach each other without the cell tower's repeater/amplifier? Can they even find each other, without the cell tower's repeater/ amplfier? Is there something critical within the cell network that decrypts their transmissions for each other?
Passive cell repeaters? My family has a very rural hunting/getaway place with a “base camp” that is located in a low spot on the property. Even in the higher spots cell phone coverage is spotty at best. We have a “yaggi” style antenna that will give us strong signal if it is plugged directly into an external antenna connection on a phone. This is workable, but somewhat inconvenient. I have seen some “passive repeater” products designed for vehicles that consist of an antenna that sits on top of another smaller device located inside the vehicle that re-transmits the signal. Some of these boast of a 6db gain. I would like to be able to do the same sort of thing but using the existing “yaggi” antenna as the source with the smaller “passive repeater” unit placed such that we can get reasonable wireless reception in the immediate base camp area. I am not interested in spending several hundred bucks on an active repeater that requires external power. I am, however, willing to purchase one of the passive automobile repeaters and hack it such that it uses the existing “yaggi” as the source signal. Any practical advice on how to make this work will be greatly appreciated. Any pointers to low cost passive repeater products that have an external antenna connection will be a big plus.
Possible to build a Parabolic antenna for cell phone? Like a wifi antenna but for cell phones? I want it to work like a repeater. I want to have signal where there is no signal to be had including roaming. I have a place in the high desert and it doesnt get any cell reception, I also go out of town alot, camping trips ect... I want to make the antenna so that I can "shoot" the signal to the side, or above the mountain or through the valley, so the signal will probably need to be strong. I want it to be compact so that I can take it with me in the truck where ever I go. I was thinking of using a large vegitable steamer as the dish because it folds up, therefor helps keep it compact. Do any of you know how to make one, or a link with a how-to? P.S. I know some of you are probably thinking, well the convienence of electronics isnt camping! I fully agree with that, but I want this for emergency cituations when camping, and convience on the road. Thanks for the input Hutton. Is there any way to boost the signal when im camping in an area where there is absalutly no signal? that is why i thought of a parabolic antenna because it is highly focused, so instead of having the signal spead out over an area, i can focus it on one area and greatly increase the odds of a signal.
Report abut radio repeaters towers installed in downtown Cairo. This means a longer shut down of cell phones? This give me a hint that probably cell phone will be cut for a long time. If you are not familiar with radio communication, radio repeaters towers help to relay radio signals through a heavy reinforced concrete forest like Cairo were radio signals don't propagate easily. of course it for republican guards communications.
Looking for a good cell repeater for AT&T service.? The building I work in has no cell service. Outside the building has full bars. I am looking at installing a repeater for the employees, but which one? Does anybody have a good recommendation for a cell repeater that will work for AT&T. I am looking for a “good” unit for an office of 10 AT&T users. The phones are iPhone 3Gs’s, Razors and Blackberries (on the edge network). Is there one repeater that will handle with variation of phones?
ghetto way of increasing cell phone reception a tiny bit? Hi. I want to increase my cell phone reception a bit. Its weird in that I get up to 3 bars consistently but its very volatile and goes down to 0 and even drops calls sometimes. I know there are ways to make the signal come through better (repeaters etc.) I don't want to spend a ton on these but I just want a little bit more stable connection so I can use the live t.v function on my phone. Are there any tips on how to barely increase my reception, or at least stabilize it? Like keeping the phone away from metal or wrapping it in aluminum or anything crazy like that?
Question about cell phone service? Where I live my cell calls are constantly dropped. I work from home so, I'm in a "dead zone" most of the day. Obviously I go out - but I must say I only get "usable service" about 20% of the month My husband and I debated on making a homemade repeater station - but just opted to get Verizon's Network extender (which works very well) ... though was $250. Bottom line: I'm wondering if the below argument has any validity? Or, am I overlooking some things that cost money regardless of talk time/data transfer etc. Why can't I pay only 20% of my bill? I can only use my data service and calling capabilities 20% of the time. Other than that - my blackberry is good for offline use only (heck, I can do that with my deactivated blackberry that has no service attached to it) And, furthermore - to achieve service that some people get just by living in an area of good reception I have to pay an additional $250. First ... of course they aren't going to let me pay 20% of my bill ... I didn't ask that. Second ... I have a land line but conduct business on my blackberry ... thus, what I bought a signal extender. I guess no one understood the question.
how do I sell something on the internet? The product is for cell phone, it a repeater or call signal enhance device.
I just moved to the boonies and our cell phones don't work - no bars. We need these for work! What to do? We talked to the cell phone supplier and he said we could put in a device that may or may not work for around $1000. The service is through Cingular. I've heard about repeaters but have no idea how they work. Our cell phones sometimes work out in the backyard, but it's been a bit too cold to stand outside at night to talk. We have a metal roof on our log house, and I don't know if that affects service.
Cellular Phone Ban in Telephone Central Offices? I've worked in many central offices ;AT&T I have found is the worst about cell phone use in there C.O., saying it has caused equipment damage and dropped thousands of customers just from one cell phone call 1 person made one floor below a switch. Then at a Verizon office they have no such rule and when i casually ask a tech about why they allow cell phones they look at me funny and wonder what the hell I'm talking about and have never heard of such a thing. I currently work at a 300,000 square foot datacenter, AT&T, verizon and more service carriers are present there, but we have no rules about cell phone useage, and actually we are in the process of running an antenna feed to our floor to repeaters to expand our cell phone coverage throughout the campus. Just curious if anyone has anything to add. Thanks No one is pulling my leg, AT&T has signs all over the place and I have been kicked out of one of their CO's because i forgot to turn my cell phone off and it rang when i near a tech.
Can a Bluetooth USB transceiver act as a repeater? Say I have a USB dongle on my PC, bluetooth cell phone near PC with 33 foot range and the transceiver has 100 foot range. Will my bluetooth headset be able to use the transceiver as a repeater or will it still be limited to the phone's bluetooth range? Here is the dongle: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0240275
Erecting a radio tower on my property.? I have 5 acres of paradise in middle of nowhere USA. I want to erect a tower similar to the ones i see on businesses which operate some sort of radio transmitter/receiver etc.. I would like to go 75 feet from the ground to avoid all obstacles in a 360 degree sweep. What sorts of towers do people recommend, What are the rules on permits and lights on top or whatever. I am starting from scratch knowing nothing really other than I want a tower now. Cell phone signal repeater can go on it as well as my HD tv receiver. Any links or advice would be great. Im in rural southeast texas. Waller county (in case someone actually knows!!) :) Thanks ahead of time! I am talking about the signal repeaters you can purchase to amplify the existing signal. about 500 bucks for it. And im talking about the antenna for the HD television signal.
Cell signal sucks here what can I do? Ok I'm to the point where i'm about ready to put one of those car antennas on a hat and wear it on my head with a wire plugged in my cell phone when i'm at home becuase there's 0 - 1 bars of signal here. I have Verizon. I know most peopl say those sticker booster thigns don't really work and I dont' really care.. How about those mor expensive ones that you plug in at the house that resend the signal like a repeater basically? I know they cost a lot but I'm thinking of splitting the cost with some others here at the house to get one because we all have verizon. Anyone know of a good brand and/or model of those that would work good? I'm trying to stay under $200 if possible. wow thanks for all the answers so far guys. No i'm not in a basement. However if I am in the upstairs of the house I get 0 bars still but it does work a lot better. If I go out front I get 1 bar, and in the back forget it. I didn't know verizon sold one i'll have to check it out!
Cell phones carrier frequency? What is the carrier frequeency for 3g and 4g phones ? I'm going to buy a repeater/ amplifier and i have to know what is the frequency range
Are repeaters or Wireless extenders Legal? Talking about cell phones here and the spectrum and FCC and companies ownin all that... do they actually work? and don't they actually make things worse eventually...due to the noise floor being pushed up? Please, PLEASE hopefully an SPE or engineer can check into this and clarify this.. thanks!!
Question for Ham operators? I just purchased a nice UNIDEN ARU 251K repeater for my family that has a output of 20 Watts UHF on TX-464.875 & RX-469.875 PL-186.2, im putting up a 20 foot Antenna, i was curious what kinda range we would get out of this unit? (We will be using a bunch of Puxing 888's and a couple of alinco rig's) Also we live on a hill, and have mild to moderate tree population, the reason we would like to put up a Repeater is because we are always @ different places @ different times around the farm, going to the local store, feeding, in the woods, etc. Cell phones are obsolete (at least around these conditions) and FRS radios are useless (2 miles range @ most) No silly or rude answers , Thanks -Cody D.V.M. BobB, Thanks so much for your advice, yes sir we are using a nice thick coax, the repeater does have a Duplexer, and im in the process of getting a frequency coordnated (waiting for them to return my call, im also soon to get a commercial radio permit) And about the Alinco/puxing radios the radios we are going to use will now be Yaesu commercial (neither Alinco nor Puxing even though the price was appealing id rather be lawful) Any additional advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks again -Cody @ Nomadd, Thank you for your advice also. (btw my antenna is not 20' tall, its a antenna mounted on top of a 20' grounded pole, Thanks Again)
Suggestins for a low cost extreamly rural wireless communications solution? So... I have some family land that is in the absolute middle of the boonies. It's got your basic travel trailer living quarters that sports a 12V car battery that is kept charged by a small solar panel. It provides enough juice for a weekend camping trip. It is possible to get a cell signal at the campsite if you place a yagi style antenna on a large pole and have a phone that will except a direct external antenna connection. This, however, is quite inconvenient as one must be tethered to the antenna. A repeater would be ideal, but those things run well over $500. A satellite internet connection with wireless router and a VIOP phone would work but we are talking a couple of hundred for installation plus a minimum of $30 per month. This is way to much for a place that only gets used a couple of times a year. Any creative suggestions for a low cost wireless communications solution for this very rural low use location?
Possible to build a Parabolic antenna for cell phone? Like a wifi antenna but for cell phones? I want it to work like a repeater. I dont want to pay hundereds of dollars, I just want to make something.
Did you ever try a Cellular repeater for better cell phone service? If so where can i get one? I have Verizon and its good but lately i have like no service. I am going to get a new phone so would that make my service better instead? Also if anyone answers this question i will give you best answer- http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjkZ8KcdCO984nfXHiZ0P.Xsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110104135230AA2yzIs OH NO I POSTED THIS in the wrong section. im so sorry. -.-
How can I boost my cell phone signal? Ok so I have an android phone, cricket service, and I get little to no signal in my house. I know its my house blocking the reception cause i step outside and get good reception. I go a little down the street and its awesome reception. I need a cheap way of channeling signal iinto my house. Im not spending 100's of dollars on those signal repeater or amplifier thingys like those wilson models. I need some ideas even if i need to make an anntena out of foil or something. As many answers as possible would be great. Thank you. Going with another provider would cost too much i have to stick to waht I have. Ive done the stickers they are a scam and dont work. Do you guys know that th stickers are just that with a design printed on them , nothing more. I cant believe they actually got away with selling those things on "as seen on tv" for $20
how do I get out of my contract with verizon? Been with them 8 years; they changed up the hardware in the area? In short..lived in my house from 11/09 to 11/10 and NEVER, not ONCE dropped a call on my cell service. Since 12/10 I drop calls in total at an 8% rate. ALL at home. About 10 hours of phone calls to verizon a few trips to the store, etc, Nothing has changed..Oh expect I bought a repeater that doesn't work because now my internet is not good enough quality so the device does not work for me...I want out, they won't let me out....not without paying an early term fee which I don't think I should have to..what to do??
How to make cell phone calls inside my house where i have no cell signal? i have no cell phone signal inside my house and am looking for an inexpensive way to make & receive calls on my cell phone inside my house. cell signal repeaters are $500-$1000, so that's out. i do have wifi and am thinking of using a voip (voice over internet) service, but, can't seem to find a good one. any ideas?
How can I boost the cell phone signal for my iPhone 3G? I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment in Sunnyside, Queens, NYC and for some reason, I get very sparse cell phone service with my iPhone 3G. I literally have to sit on my kitchen floor next to the window to get full bars. A friend of mine told me about a GSM cell phone repeater/router that might be able to do the trick but so far all I'm seeing are ads for some dicey company in China. Does anyone know how I can boost AT&T's weak cell phone signal here in New York?
