Some questions about a wifi signal booster? So my house is really blocking out my signal, My wifi signal only travels halfway across my house. I. Want a booster that only needs an electrical outlet and not an ethernet outlet. Do they make these?
Wifi signal booster won't connect.? I bought a Hawkins Hi-Gain USB wifi booster in order to increase signals from free-public networks in my area. I'm on an old Mac Power PC G4. In the beginning, the wireless adapter picked up and increased signal ten-fold and the internet was smooth, but now (although the signal is still strong) it cannot connect to the internet anymore. The Hawkin device prompt window shows me the signal is strong and that I am connected. There are no errors on the device, but rather when I use the browser, the message: "You are not connected to the internet" appears and I cannot browse. However, when I try disconnecting the device and using plain Airport, the connection works this time, except it is weaker. What could be some of the reasons the device will suddenly not be able to connect to the same signal when it worked in the past?
how can i get a better wifi signal to my ps3? i have my ps3 in my living room the router is in my room. moving the router is not an option. i am currently using a little aluminum foil to in crease it but it still is not that strong. i heard about those atenas for the router but there kind off expensive. is there any really good home made wifi boosters. or how about a extra wifi access point how will that work and what is the cost off one of those.
WiFi Signal Booster? My father recently got WiFi for the house but because it's an old house and in the country side it has very thick walls which cut the Wireless signals area to very small. He wants to be able to connect a laptop from a caravan about 7~12ish meters away from the router. He wants a cheap but good wireless signal booster, like the ones that recieve the packets and resend them so you can increase signal or would a bigger antenna be better?
How do I configure my old wireless router to work with my new Sky broadband? (Or tips on better wifi signal)? Hi guys, I have recently moved broadband providers from Virgin to Sky. When I was connected through Virgin - I had a small Broadband box that plugged into a Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS router. This worked brilliantly around the house and in my office at the end of my garden. We have now moved over to Sky. They sent us a Netgear DG934G - 1SKUKS all in one Broadband & Router box that connects to the phone line. The box is small and grey / black and resembles an old Sky box and unusually has no arial on it. I plugged it all in (minus my old router) and took it for a test run ... and when I did I found I only had 20% wifi signal around the house (works ok through the cabel on main computer) which I can only improve by sitting next to the router - which obviously isnt ideal! We had the idea to plug the old wireless router into the new broadband. I did this by adding the router inbetween the new broadband and the main computer. I did all this and it worked brilliantly for about 10 minutes. Then the wireless disappeared from the network lists and we could no longer connect (Sky still shows up - just not the old wireless). I have done a fair amount of digging around and most people say that it is impossible to use a different wireless router with Sky Broadband. If this is the case - how come I got it to work the first time? Does anyone no the answer to this? Is there a way you can configure wireless routers to take over from the rubbish Sky one? If not - what is the answer to increasing the wifi strength? I have looked at wifi signal boosters briefly but they all seem to replace an arial that doesnt exist on our new broadband box. Please help - this is ruining my working day! Lol :) Thanks in advance. :)
How do I increase the wireless signal for laptop's Sprint Wireless USB? I have Sprint's internet service on my laptop with with their Sierra Wireless USB 598. My signal at home is very poor. How can I get better signal? I was researching the 2.0 USB extension cables and a wifi signal booster, but I am not sure if I can use them. how can i boost my wifi signal? i have a bt home hub and normally my laptop connects to the internet no problem except ive noticed when a neighbour is also on i know when they are on because my internet connection is lost and if i look at the available networks his name is always there when they disconnect my signal comes on again no problem do i need a wifi booster? what can i do its very frustrating.
WiFi signal booster - 5 MILES!??! is this for real? Okay, so I live in the boonies, and we can only get dial up. It particularly sucks because the broadband coverage area ends about 5 houses down the road and they just won't extend it here. There are a lot of hotspots in the town nearest me, which is about 3.85 miles away. I have line of sight view of the tops of the buildings there. Anyway, I've been browsing http://www.5milewifi.com/ and they claim that their product can boost both my receiving end and the actual hotspot's signal itself to allow for a 5+ mile radius, which would include my nearby town. So if I placed their antenna on the top of my roof and had line of sight with the town, would this realistically work? IS THIS FOR REAL... ANYONE?
how to boost wifi signal? there is a very weak (fades in and out) unlocked wifi signal in the apt. I just moved into, is there a device I could plug into my laptop that would boost the signal so I could use this wifi for free? All the signal boosters seem to be for the other end-to boost outgoing signals!
WIFI boosters-do they work for outside signals? What i want is a way to pick up free internet. From my house i get one weak connection. It works sometimes. When my cable internet isn't working i use that. I took my laptop in the car not 150 yards and found 5 or more signals. Can i put one of those boosters on my laptop and how much of a difference will it make. I mean % increase in signal strength?
Would you recommend a Signal Booster or a Range Extender for my wifi network? my router and modem is on one side of my house and my computer is on the other. I've noticed there are two different products, a "signal booster" which seems to connect to the router and a "range extender" that sits between the area I need more coverage in and the router. Any advice as to which product to go with? Any alternate solutions?
How can my Windows XP relay via wifi a wifi signal? I have a computer with wireless internet on one side of a building, and the wifi router on the other far side. The computer is too far away to pick up the wifi signal by itsself. I was wondering if the laptop can work as a "booster" by sharing the wifi connection that it can recive
Is there a way to Boost Wifi signal in home? I recently told the cable company to F-off, but now i am left with a less than stellar public wifi signal coming from the next town over. I can only get online sitting in one room of the house, and the signal is weak. Im looking for any advice for a wifi remote signal booster/antenna deal, what to buy- an outdoor antenna/remote wifi antenna to attach to my computer itself? I would like ideally to be able to connect all our computers to the internet once again. Just wondering if anyone can explain this in retard-speak for someone like myself who gets confused easily. Pointing me to the correct websites would also be appreciated, i dont want to go grovelling back to that vile cable company!
Need Wifi Booster or Extender? I am at a hotel for a month and the free wifi signal is weak. Can someone recommend a WIFI signal booster/gainer/amplifer so that I can access the Internet off my Mac and PC laptops?
How to extend my wireless WiFi signal range? Looking how to extend my wireless WiFi signal range, I'm running a D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router and have 5 wireless clients. Most clients are located in one side of the house, and there is not enough range for the other end. The router is great and has all the features I want with an outstanding performance and range, but the house is HUGE and I need the range doubled/extended to the other side of the house. I have so far tried: HAWKING HWABN1. That did not remedy the problem, because Hawking runs on channel 11 and switching my D-Link to a fixed channel creates intermittent connection problems for my wireless clients. And leaving D-Link on auto channel switching cuts off the connection to Hawking within 10 minutes after initial configuration. And even rebooting the Hawking does not fix the problem. So it's going back I need help finding a wireless product that will stand alone WITHOUT any LAN cables in the mid point between my current wireless router and the desired hot-spot in the home thus extending the range of my existing wireless N draft 2.0 network. Signal boosters will not do any good because the current router has a really big range and the apparatus sitting next to the router will not have a bigger range. I have already bought D-Link ANT24-0230 Xtreme N 2.4GHz Antenna to add to my router, but no cigar. Please help. Thanx. Switching clients to locked channel 11 resulted in out of sync or non communicating quick-books between stations. But that is a great suggestion -mr big-. Bridging the connections wirelessly between routers sounds interesting. Is bridging done the router console or through the network management of the hosting machine?
WiFi Booster recommendation? I need to boost the wifi signal in my house and have tried a 9db antenna--doesn't help. Can anyone tell me if any of these will do the job? Hawking HSB2 Hi-Gain Wi-Fi Signal Booster Belkin F5D7132 Wireless-G Universal Range Extender Linksys WSB24 Wireless-B Signal Booster Thanks

How do I boost the WiFi signal? I'm rather ignorant about WiFi I must admit - where I'm living, we have WiFi, but I never manage to get out on the net using this signal, because I get a message it is very weak. So, my question is, is there anything I can do? Are there boosters or anything like that I can use on my laptop? And hey, if anybody answers ... I'm deffo not a computer nerd, so I need "simple" answers ... sorry... :(
What components do I need for my netbook computer? The Wifi signal is not picking up at all!? I have a new 7" netbook. It comes Wifi ready. But when I attempt to get on the Internet, it says Server Error DNS not found/available. But when I plug my cable cord in from my Road Runner into the notebook, the Internet comes on. My wifi connection is not coming on. It has a very low signal. I was told from the guy on the chat of this company, that I should get an WiFi booster. I have another laptop at home, and we use Roadrunner to connect to the Internet. What would I need to connect to the Internet for my netbook notebook computer? I really need some logical answers. If I can't get connected, I will return this computer back to this company!! Please help me!!

How can I boost my WiFi Signal? I recently moved my room and I am literally JUST far out enough where I have a 2-3 bar signal and when it's a 2 bar it barely works...I tried using one of those Windsurfer foil parabolas but it doesn't work...I don't really want too buy a booster antenna but is that my only solution so far? I have an HP G603CL and a Dlink DIR-655 router.
Is there a way to boost an internal wifi antenna? (not a wifi card)? Ok so my dad's computer has an internal wifi antenna and he needs to have the antenna's range boosted... so I'm wondering if anyone knows of a device that boosts the INTERNAL antenna, not a wifi card. I'm already aware of the numerous wifi signal boosters out there that plug into A WIFI CARD... but I'm talking about boosting an internal wifi antenna. Is there a device out there that I can buy for him? Thanks in advance for your answers Yes, I'm already aware of the cantenna. We have one... but it's just another one that plugs into a WIFI CARD. I'm looking for something that boosts the signal of an internal antenna

Does anyone know how get a better wifi signal?(from a usb adapter)? I recently bought a Belkin N1 Wifi Usb adapter and am pleased with it so far. The only problem is that even though it was the most expensive from the Belkin series and said it had the most range I still find it to lose signal strengh sometimes for no apparent reason. Is there anyway to recieve better signals altering or doing w/e to the usb adapter or my desktop? I have seen of those can boosters in which you take a can and adjust so it can boost your signal but can you use those with a usb adapter? And can anyone list any hacks you can to the adapter or cool things you can do with it to make it better or faster?

I have found that if I go downstairs I get the signal ust fine, but up in my apartment, I lost the signal completely. I am thinking of buying this booster from ebay, the link is below. Do u think that the booster is enough for me to catch the signal and also , my laptop is an acer aspire 4720Z, wud I need any drivers, or will it work fine? Thanks http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Wireless-G-WiFi-High-Gain-Adapter-Booster-Antenna_W0QQitemZ320392121696QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a98dbcd60&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1234|293%3A1|294%3A50
wifi boosters, can i use one to.....? we no longer have internet because the prices were getting crazy. so now we have a verizon card im not sure what its called but we only get 5 GB a month and its not enough. so we were talking to a friend of ours and she said her parents just moved down here from vermont and they have a wifi booster and they pick up free signals (well unlocked) from other people from far away like up to a state away. i can already pick up the other people in my build but they are all locked and one is to low for us to use. so my question is do you have to have a modem first? or is there a booster you can just plug in and start picking up other signals? we talked to a man at best buy but he didn't really want to help us because we would be getting free internet and he just wanted to sell us theirs. also we have mac-books so we need one compatible.
Boost indoor wifi card signal to Ethernet router from outside? Hi there. We are trying to find a solution for my father's temporary office set up. They are in an explosion proof building and uses his verizon wifi card to get the signal to his router which supplies the rest of his employees with Internet. They connect directly to the router (ethernet). Forgive my technically challenged explanation. At first we just thought he could use a booster until we realized it would only boost a wifi signal and not the signal to his wifi card supplying the wifi to Ethernet. Again, my apologies for my technical ineptitude. What he is wanting to find out is if there is something that will boost his signal coming into his wifi card before it even gets to the router. The signal inside the building is now halved and it's prohibiting his team from sending or receiving large files for their projects. We've been scouring the Internet but haven't found an answer. Any suggestions? Oh! He has thought about putting his router and wifi card outside of his building but really isn't an option as it leaves it exposed to the elements. Now, we're all confused. If any other info is needed let me know. Many thanks to any who can help.
How can a Wifi antenna booster increase the wireless connection performance? Hi, I have situation here where my laptop and the wifi router are separated with walls and cause the connection to fail. I am thinking of replacing the wireless router's antenna with an antenna booster, probably 10dBi. I believe this antenna will be able to penetrate the signal through the walls to my laptop. But I doubt that, will this antenna be able to receiver the returning signal from my laptop, if I don't do any upgrade to my laptop?
help! I am moving to place with weak wifi signals and need a booster? Has anyone made or purchased a wifi range extender for their laptop? (something like the cantenna, other home-made device, or a professional unidirectional antenna) I do not have direct line of sight to anything, but I am hoping to boost my wifi reception somehow...Any websites or high-gain methods would be great

Can someone recommend a wireless card that will pickup wireless Internet signal the best - high range? I live in an apartment with free WiFi. But I barely get one bar if any. And even with such a low connection, I am getting high speeds. However, I would like to know if someone can recommend a high range receiver or some kind of signal booster so that I can assure a more stable connection with more bars? Also, if I am connected to the network (or any public network), with all file sharing and network discovery off (using Vista), is my cpu safe from intrusion and other hacks???

Wifi booster with Ralink utility in Iraq? Hey all, I'm having a problem connecting to the internet. Bear with me because I don't know too much about computers. I am currently serving in Iraq. In our living compound, we have a 3 different wireless signals we can connect to. These come from a centrally located tower. Now, all the people in the compound live in these small trailer type buildings (we call pods) spread all throughout the compound. They are divided into sections, A pods, B pods, etc. I think that each of these pods has a booster to amplify the central tower so that everyone (who pays for the service) can get online. I am in X pods which is at the far end of the compound. I also hear that the X pods has been having issues with the wifi. Needless to say, I have a weak signal. I recently purchases a USB wifi booster made by Alfa. The program this booster comes with is Ralink. For the past 2-3 weeks since I got the booster, I have been able to get online perfectly fine. Yesterday, however, I couldn't connect at all. I tried all day and nothing. My Ralink utility was showing strong signals as well as my normal Windows connection which was showing 4-5 bars. Now the Ralink utility shows many incoming signals. Usually it has the 3 main ones which are real strong, then many "duplicates" of these with weak signals (maybe from the individal pod boosters around the compound?) When I would try to connect, it wouldn't. And even if I was able to for a second, it would drop down to 1 bar. I realize that the more people that are on, the worse the connection (bandwidth) but I have always been able to get on regardless of this. I called the internet people here and they said things were running fine. They didn't say anything was down...Does anyone know what this could be? I'm beginning to think it's not the compounds internet connection but my own personal computer isn't working correctly. Well, I don't have a modem in my room. I'm just picking up a wireless signal. Like someone staying in a hotel would....there isn't much I can do with that kind of stuff.
my wifi connection works slower than dial up? i pick up my wifi from my mother-in-law from across the street. she has fios. when i carry my laptop over there it moves like a high speed connection should. its about 120 feet to the router from my house. if the distance is the problem, is there a signal booster available that actually works or is there another solution. other than paying for a isp at my house.
Which Is better? (Computer/Router problem)? For a while now I have had problems with my Xbox Live connection, dealing with lag. I am on a wireless connection (No I CANNOT wire it), and my router is about 100 yards away (I am not stealing it from my neigbors). So because of that I have been lagging on a few games. So I want to know what can I do to get a better connection....Would one of these two things work? If so whcih would be better? A Range Expander (Repeater) or a Signal Booster (WiFi Signal Amplifier) Someone please help
Why can't i hook up my wifi on my ps3? can anyone help me. i have a 80gb ps3 and i would like to hook up to the internet via wifi. what do i need to do? someone told me that i need a signal booster. cause the ps3 is weak. i have at&t internet with wifi. thank you for your help
networking/online connection troubles? i just got xp onto my asus g2s x3 and i was able to get online on my friends wifi but now i cant connect to my home network via ethernet it might be a driver issue but so far ive tried connecting my laptop directly to the modem and i found this wifi signal booster that my dad tells me can be used as a wireless router when connected to the our wired router. the software that came with the signal booster wouldn't recognize what middle i had on my laptop and with the software on the other computer it had recognized the device but i couldn't click the next button maybe because its not a router, when the signal booster is connected to the router and turned on i can connect my laptop to it but no online connection could be established. id like to get my internet work working on a wired connection rater than wireless, especially considering the signal booster which might possibly be a Router is nearly touching my computer so threres no point for wireless. here's the device im trying to use as a router, i didn't think it is a router but if it can help my get connected il use it, but again id like to stay wired http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=33&FamID=79&ProdID=241 yes my computer has been connected to the network, but that was before downgrading to xp a few days ago and might be the cause. my network is a modem going to a cable router leading off to three computers including mine. and no i didn't shut the modem off when directly connected to my computer, so il give it a shot. so anyone else that can help out please do id like to get all of this working before Monday
help please with wifi internet reception? does anyone know what can be done or used to pick up a wifi signal from like altell for wireless internet at home when you are NOT in the line of sight from thier tower and currently cannot get the signal ? is there any after market antenna boosters or recievers that will catch the signal when you live down in a valley and cant see thier tower or catch the signal with thier equipment ? help please! cant stand dial up anymore and no i cant get dsl or cable modem where i live and i dont want to go with satelite internet.
Where is the wifi antenna in an ACER 5100 Laptop? I read in a web magazine that you can boost the wifi signal on a laptop by putting 2 mobile phone boosters (the thin ones that go behind your battery) on the receiver. I would assume the receiver is the laptop, so where do i put the boosters?....or do i put them on the router antenna? I know many of you may be sceptical that this will have any effect at all, but please humour me as i have a couple of spare boosters and would like to try it as i cant get a signal downstairs ( the router is upstairs) and therefore have nothing to lose by trying. Many thanks for your help

can i use a router as a speed and signal booster? i am currently staying in a hotel that offers free wifi. i hooked up my desktop and bought a linksys rangeplus wireless pci adapter. i can catch the signal but it is very weak and speed is very slow. i also have a linksys wireless g router with speed booster. my question is is there a way i can hook up my router as a signal and/or speed booster? if so how would i do it? do i need to change certain setting on the router? i am clueless and tired of losing the signal.
How to get a wi-fi signal on XP? Hi, my computer is fairly old, it's a Dell Dimension E510 desktop, and it will not pick up my router's wifi signal at all. I was using a wi-fi booster card (USB thingy) and it recently broke. I was wondering if I need to buy another one or if there's an easier way to connect to my router. The Wireless Zero Configuration setting does not help either. If anyone has any recommendations for a Wi-Fi booster please list them. If it helps, i use AT&T U-verse's default router, the 2WIRE series.
The free wifi in my parents condo is pretty weak, can this signal be boosted? My parents live in a condo building that offers free wi-fi but some rooms of their unit are so far from the router the signal is weak. They are able to get the signal just fine from the front hallway of their unit - but not in the bedrooms/office. I've heard of ways of boosting a wifi signal from the source but is it possible to setup something that will pick up the existing signal from the hallway and boost it to the rest of their unit? I've heard of signal boosters for cable tv. Does something similar exist for wifi?
WiFi Internet service confusion...? Forgive me if I use terminology incorrectly. I'm rather new at this topic: I am moving and plan on spending the next 3 months in my mini motorhome at an RV park that has WiFi. My laptop has 802.11 wifi. I also plan to get a cell phone since a land line would be impossible. Some cell phone companies tell me I must have Internet service with them for wifi A N Y W H E R E to work on my laptop. The guy at the RV park who admits he is far from being an expert says you don't have to have a service. He said at most I might have to get a signal booster if I park too far from the source. I think the cell companies are probably blowing smoke since I have caught them in a couple of other fibs too. Let me know if I haven't provided enough info for an adequate response. I fell like I don't even know enough to ask the right question.

Going wifi at home? Hi I want to set up wifi at my home. My concern is will a wifi router be able to propogate upwards to my room upstairs. The broadband modem is in a room at the bottom of the stairs, and my room is at the top of the flight of stairs. Questions on my mind: 1. Will i be able to browse upstairs if the router is kept downstairs? Or do i need to extend a wire upstairs to keep the router on the floor above. 2. I understand Wireless-N routers have better range. So, Should i go for a Wireless-G or a Wireless-N router? 3. What model would you recommend? And whats is the approx cost of W-G and W-N models? Any recommended shops in Gurgaon / Nehru place? 4. Whats the cost of a signal-booster/ bridge/ repeater/ whateveryoucallthatthingie? Thanks in advance
Wireless Connection Signal? Okay, I finally have my new desktop pc connected to the wifi in my house and I am connected w/o the "Limited Access" anymore. Now I don't understand is that even though the new pc is one room over with one wall between the new pc and the router, I'm getting a poor signal. I'm using Vista home premium. I've tried using diagnose and repair function but it says there is no problems. What do I do? Do I need a signal booster or repeater? I don't want to have to pay more for this.
AT&T/Cingular tilt signal question? I have a Tilt...which is a semi upgrade to the Cingular 8525...basically its the same phone. Anyway I want to use my phone as a modem and have my laptop connect to it. Problem is with in my house I get an "E" signal. When I am outside I have a "3G" signal. Is there a way to boost the signal in my house so I get 3g. Some have told me to get an antenna that is for the 8525. Others have said just buy a wifi booster. I want to know which will work 100% and is less expensive.
Is there any way to boost the wifi reception on a laptop? I have a Compaq Presario V6500 series, it has an internal wireless card of some sort (not pcmcia). I need to boost the reception to reach a neighbor's router, it sort of works sometimes with my Sony Vaio S460 but the Compaq has weaker reception. And yes, I've talked to my neighbor - they said it would be okay, I tried to get a cable/dsl line but cannot get service at the moment because this is a new area. Can I buy a router and hook it up to my laptop, would it work as an antenna/signal booster? Or is there some kind of external antenna I can buy for an internal laptop wifi card? Any solution will be gladly recieved, I would buy internet but can't :( and I am desperate.
10 Points...?!?!?!? Hi, I need some tip on how to increase my router's WiFi signal. My Nintendo Wii (which uses WiFi) is located in my living room and doesn't get much of a signal (1 out of 3 bars). My router is located in my dad's office which is about 3 rooms away from my Nintendo Wii. I don't have much money to spend on those expensive WiFi boosters and such. Is there any way that I can get a better WiFi signal? Any tips/tricks on getting a better signal will be much apreciated.

How to extend the range of a video baby monitor? Does anyone know how to extend the range of a video baby monitor? Our monitor is 900mhz. We live in an old building full of steel and concrete so the signal doesn't go well between rooms and is lost entirely between the baby room and the master bedroom. There are boosters for wifi networks so I would assume there is some technology or the same one that would work for baby monitors.
WiFi booster antenna? What kind would work best with a Compaq Presario F572 laptop? Honestly, I'll name my first child after you if you can answer this question. I have a B/G card and a G router which the owners of the lodge will not upgrade the router and I barely get a signal -- and only sometimes. And I need a way to grab the signal a little better. People tell me an N USB adaptor wouldn't make any difference in range (I don't care about speed, just need a reliable signal). Been trying to figure this out for a month. Nobody local has been able to help and eBayers aren't answering my inquiries. About to lose it. Thank you.
