Do wi-fi signal boosters really work? My wi-fi transmotter is located in my kitchen. But occasionally I like to sit in the living room with my laptop and work. How to get a wi-fi signal on XP? Hi, my computer is fairly old, it's a Dell Dimension E510 desktop, and it will not pick up my router's wifi signal at all. I was using a wi-fi booster card (USB thingy) and it recently broke. I was wondering if I need to buy another one or if there's an easier way to connect to my router. The Wireless Zero Configuration setting does not help either. If anyone has any recommendations for a Wi-Fi booster please list them. If it helps, i use AT&T U-verse's default router, the 2WIRE series.
Need to strengthen the free wi-fi signal inside my house that's coming from the nearby park.? I live very close to a city park that has a free wi-fi signal. I can get the signal just fine in my yard, but inside the house I can only get an unreliable, weak signal in a couple of places. What do I need to purchase to get a stronger signal inside my house. I don't think a wi-fi booster will be enough. I wondered if a repeater or long range wi-fi antenna would be what I needed? Maybe a combination of things or something I haven't listed? My laptop is already wi-fi capable, so it doesn't need any extra hardware.
Do Wi-Fi boosters boost other connections around it? In my room I have poor Wi-Fi signal on my tablet and on my laptop If I got a Wi-Fi booster like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edimax-EW-7711UAN-150mbs-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B001KOTDDU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310210627&sr=8-1 Would it also boost my tablets signal? Or if not is there anything I could use to get them both boosted
How can I boost my wi-fi internet signal at home? Our home office is in the corner of the house, but with wifi devices on the other side of the house in our bedrooms, the signal isn't so strong. We need the modem in our office to give us wired connections. I read this article, http://www.ehow.com/how_2384317_boost-wifi-signal.html. Which is of these tips have the most realistic impact? In addition or instead, is there a signal booster or extender that I can buy and install in the middle of my house?
Is there a wireless USB wi-fi booster device or cable? Im a security guard and use a cheap wi-fi netbook (no CD/DVD drive) for writing during breaks at work, but i also need internet access. But theres a problem.... 1. I do NOT have access to the nearest wi-fi routers (B/G), which are over 50ft away and provide the netbook only a very weak brief connection. 2. I can NOT move my netbook from my workspace (a small outside guard station). 3. I can NOT afford a broadband subscription. QUESTION : Is there a wireless USB wi-fi booster device (not requiring plugging into the router) available that will enable my netbook to get a stronger signal ?
Boosting a Wi-Fi signal to an iMac? i have a two story house, and my iMac (on the 2nd story) is the only apple computer in the house. we have one desktop computer and another laptop computer also, on the first story. however, we are using an airport express base station for our internet, because we thought it would be better for my iMac. the internet works fine downstairs, but on my iMac the signal strentgh is almost always one bar, so safari is slow and ichat gives me errors most of the time as i talk to people what is weird is when i bring the hp laptop further into my room, just to test the wi-fi strength, the internet and AIM work perfectly fine and at a normal rate, not slow or anything. i also tried using the airport express booster but we can not seem to make it see our internet, so if anyone has any tips as to something to get my internet on my mac to work faster and better i would appreciate it tremendously p.s. my mac is as close to the base station as it can be in my room thanks all!!

Boost Wi-Fi Reception for iTouch? I have an iTouch and I live close to a McDonald's that offers free wi-fi. I can pick up the McDonald's wi-fi signal with the WiFiFoFum App, but the signal is weak, and I can't connect. Is there something that exists that will enable me to boost the wi-fi reception on my iTouch? Something like an aggregator or a signal booster that I could purchase at say a tech store?
Has anyone had experience using a USB Wi-fi Booster? I'm working at a place that's skimping on the budget this year and has chosen to loose their internet connection even though several people including myself need the use of being online on a regular basis. I am close enough to the local library that I can "see" the signal, but can't get a solid connection all of the time. I am wanting to know if anyone out there has had experience using one of the Wi-Fi boosters that plug dirrectly into the USB drive of a Laptop and is small enough that I can put it in my medium sized laptop bag. The library is around 500-1000ft from where my desk is, but It'd be nice to hear about one that has better distance.
Which WI-FI Booster to buy? Hi I have a Linksys WAG160n router and can get signal all round the house apart from at the far end, the signal is quite weak. I have seen that there are wifi boosters that make the signal stronger, I just wondered if anyone knows of a good one that will work and work with my router. Thanks
Wi-fi booster for Wii? We have an n router and in my daughter's partial subterranean room she gets enough signal for her lap top but not for her Wii. Is there a booster of some sort that will increase her signal?
will a wi fi booster solve this problem? I have a studio flat within a large georgian terrance house. In total there are 8 flats in the building. We all share the same BT Home Hub. There have been lots of issues with the signal. Our landlord has come back and suggested installing a wifi booster - which we will have to contribute towards. He has tested the internet by comparing the signal strength received on a new and 3 month old laptop across various places in the building. He says that new equipment works fine and older laptop may be the problem. However the actually connection problem is about location it is more to do with bandwith - it seems in the busier times the connection will repeatedly drop or disappear completely. Will a booster help if the problem is too many people connected to the router at once? Also how many computers should connect to a BT Home Hub?
low wi-fi signal in my home,? I have a netgear wgr614 and a new toshiba laptop, the router is in the bedroom. when I'm in the livingroom I get a low signal around 60% when i get to the kitchen it is around 55-40%, but mostly in the low 40's. I have nothing around the router,, I get a stronger signal in my home FROM my neighbor then I do from my own router. I even made a homemade antenna booster which did help a little... I was wondering if it is the router channel that needs to be changed
Signal booster??? IS there something I can connect to my desk top to increase my wi-fi signal? The router is about 50 yards away. There is 2 transmitters in place to try to send the signal better but I can't hardly connect to the internet..Please help
Wi-fi booster on BT Homehub? Hi folks. I like to use my laptop at the bottom of my garden but find that the signal is quite weak (and sometimes drops out altogether). Is there some way of boosting the signal? At a rough guess I'm probably 50 feet away from the hub which is at the front of the house. Thanks.

The city provided WI-FI works well when I am on the porch outside and in one bedroom upstairs, I want it all over the house, I tried several USB type boosters that attached to one computer but they don't help. I need a signal boost to my SBC DSL modem, model 1701HG, where do I get one? I have a 1701 HG modem that is running a computer about 60 feet away. Because of the construction of my building, I need some kind of signal booster to make the wi-fi stronger. Does anyone know if any kind of booster or repeater that may work with the 1701HG SBC DSL modem/router? If so, which one is best? Paultech, yours looks a little confusing. Is there a simpler one around?
Restored PC and MANY toolbar icons are gone. Where did they go? Desktop-Vista-Alienware! More specifically the icons are WI-FI and the volume icon's in the bottom right corner...GONE! I can't find them anywhere in the control panel and with my crappy wi-fi connection I need to reset the modem and get the ISP address A LOT!....hmm...whats a viable wi-fi incoming signal booster method?
usb wifi booster antenna? I have permission to pick-up my neighbors open wi-fi signal. So, I have a 1 watt, 30 dbm usb wifi booster antenna for my laptop but it isn't doing that great. Sometimes I don't get connected and other times, I lose my wifi connection. I'm thinking about getting a better booster antenna but it is 41 dbm and is 13 watts. Is the 13 watts to much for my laptop? Thanks.
how could i connect a coaxial cable to my laptop.? i made a yagi antenna as my signal booster for my wi-fi.my laptop can received small signal but its not enough to connect it and have an internet so i decided to design a yagi antenna which will be use as my booster.anyone hu could help me to connect coaxe to my laptop.
Can I connect a wifi booster to my modem to increase range? I see that most of the WiFi boosters have a coaxial connection. Does this mean that if I hook up the Wi-Fi booster to the modem/wi-fi router that the range of Wi-Fi will extend. The reason I ask is because we are attempting to share between about 150 foot of homes. I have an extender but it doesn't pick up the signal due to it being a trailer park and so much metal interference. So can I boost the original signal from the actual source and pick up reception?
How can I better receive a distant wireless signal? I'm in an RV parked on a friend's property, but his wi-fi signal doesn't reach me well enough to use it reliably. We tried making an antenna reflector to go on his router, but it didn't make any noticeable difference. Neither of us has much cash to spend, especially since this is only a temporary situation. What's the best device to buy (repeater, receiver booster, transmission booster, high output router antenna, etc.), and what brand and model? I don't really want to spend over about $20 if possible, and in a perfect world, it would be something I could take with me for receiving wi-fi signals in other places. I know some devices work and some don't so please be specific, if you can. SPKR-- Can you clarify for me? the Alfa adapter picks up OTHER signals right-- it's not a booster or router that needs a modem to work from. It picks up the signal from other wi-fi routers, right? Does it plug in in the house/RV/boat, then run a cable to the USB port on the laptop, or can the laptop still be wireless? The wi-fi signal that I'm trying to connect to is my friend's, so I don't want to buy something to replace his router, or that I have to leave for him. I want to make sure it works from the laptop end, not his router's end (if that makes any sense). I can't replace his router or anything like that. Benny-- that looks like you copied the specs from an ad or something. Can you explain just what that is?
Will this work? I am trying to boost my wireless signals using this? OK, so in my house, me and my dad have set up a wireless network. In one room, we have our router, and then we also have in the opposite end of the house, my dad's computer, and we also have my computer, which is in the middle, but upstairs. We also have an Ipad, and an Ipod which we have hooked in. A while ago, we made a signal booster which we put next to my computer, and used to boost the signals to it. My dad removed it, and put it on his computer, so he could do some things for work, because we recently did a little bit of renovations in his study, and now he can't get a very good signal. So, here is what i want to know. I made another signal/wifi booster, but I based it on this: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Wi-Fi-Booster-Using-Only-a-Beer-Can And although mine is slightly different, it functions the same. Now, I was planning on putting it on my computers receiver, but I just thought of a better idea. Would it work if I put it on the modem? I know that's what it is designed for (in the wikihow) but my modem/router is vertical. Where would I put it? should I have it hanging off the side? Also, how much will it boost the signal? I don't need much, only a little bit more, so that it can reach the corners of my house. Thanks guys. I really appreciate it...my dad knows a lot less about computers and electronics than he thinks he does. Oh, and this is written in layman's terms, because I don't know a whole lot about this stuff. My router/modem is a new netgear one, and it's totally fine. Looking for an answer about the signal booster, not looking to get a bunch of new stuff.
Signal distance with wireless antennas? Hi, My brother lives about 300 metres (yards) from where I live. There are houses in between but no tall buildings. We would like to use the same Internet signal via a wireless router. Considering that we are in Brazil and not all equiptment is available here, I'd like to know if the Internet Server D-link Dir-635 4 Portas 10/100 Rangebooster and an antenna Wireless 12 Dbi Omni Direcional Booster Wi-fi Sma would do the job. We get ADSL via phoneline at 1 giga. After reading these two answers, I think I need to add that with an inferior wireless router (D-Link DWL - 2100AP) and no booster antenna, neighbours up to 80 metres away can pick up my signal. (Although I realise that 80 metres is not 300.) We live at the beach where everything is very open and always sunny. If that helps. Maybe it affects the signal. Certainly people who live further away than directly nextdoor or over the road do pick up my signal as they have knocked on my door asking for the password. But if it can't be done, it can't be done. Thank you for your time.
Xbox Wi fi singal help? I have just bought an Xbox for the first time and I'm having troublw with the internet connection and Xbox live. Cell Phone Signal Boosters? Is there anything that I can put in my home to increase cell phone signal? I live in a rural area so it couldn't work from Wi-Fi. If there are any that would work in my area could you include the links? Thanks.
10 easy points!!!!! if you can help me and my brother with internet/computer problems please? ok my brother and i bought a router, it works perfectly i can use my ipod and my ps3. my brother he lives what maybe 250 feet away from my house, and this are hard times money is going out of our pockets fast so to save money we have been thinking for him to use my wi fi signal all the way to his house. the problem is we live in apartments, like i said we live apart like around 250 feet but there is an apartment building. ! ~ ! ok imagine the bottom exclamation point is my apt the middle part is another apartment building and the top exclamation point is my bros house. we need to find a way to make the wi fi reach all the way to his house but the middle part is a big building and there is some what trees.(i dont know why i "drew" but hey im bored) yesturday he bought an antena or range booster what ever you want to call it, so far it does reach we do see signal but it is some what weak like 20 30% will that be a problem? my router is a belkin N, his antena is a hawk G something like that is there any problem with that? what else can we buy to make this work because we know he can have internet but its just the distance and the building that blocks half of the signal. will it be cheaper if he just moves closer to my apt? last question when we do get some signal and even when he is in my apt we try to go to internet explore but aol comes up how can we not make aol a default internet thing or something? and he locked his wi fi thing from his computer the one that came already with the computer he locked it, and he doesnt know how to fix it is there any way to reset it? please help us out like i said 10 easy points, and please tell me with small words cause as you all can see im not a computer guy we both arent.
a wireless router or booster? i bought a laptop which has wi fi and i live very close to my mom who has wireless internet my other computer got the signal but this one doesn't. i know the wi fi will connect to the network because i have tried it when at her house. but i don't know if i need to get a wireless booster or a router i do not have internet at my house or a phone line, and no other computers. so i have no way to really hook anything up besides just plugging into the wall.
Where is the built-in antenna on my BlackBerry Curve 9300 or how can I find this information? I know it might make no difference, but as my signal is poor inside my house I've bought one of those stick-on signal boosters just on the off-chance that it may help a tiny bit. The wi-fi reception is not a problem, that picks up fine from my wireless router in the house and the signal outside is great. It's just the Orange signal (for calls and texts) in the house which can be very temperamental when it wants to be !! Not just my phone, but it's always been the same for anyone with Orange here. The instructions with this little booster sticker say to stick it "on the inside of the phone as close to and in the same direction (if possible) as the built-in antenna." Well I've searched, Googled, Binged asked Jeeves etc, but can I find out where, let alone in which direction the Curve 9300's built-in antenna is ? Nope not at all ! So I wondered if anyone here can help me at all ? Thanks for reading this, Kate
Internet Modems. Help PLease? Okay so here is the story. We have the fastest internet connection there is to offer in england, we also have signal boosters around the house. Problem is that our walls are very thick, so the signal is dodgy and constantly drops about every 5 minutes. making online gaming impossible. We are using BT at the moment, but I still have our old SKY modem. My question is this: Can I use the SKY netgear wireless modem to connect to the internet? I can plug this in in my room, so it would be great if I could. Can I use the ethernet if the Wi-Fi doesn't work? Please help, any solution would be good, even if it means alot of code writing :D Thanks :D
Ideas for Creating a Wireless Network for 54+ People Plus Devices? I'm currently spearheading a plan to put Wi-Fi into my community. There are 6 buildings in roughly a crescent moon formation with about a quarter of a mile from the longest ends. The buildings are made of shale, sheet rock, and some brick (mostly at the bottom floor garages), with about 9-15 apartments per building (3 apartments per floor, with 3-5 floors/building). Most of the tenants and workers are not technologically savvy, meaning any network would have to be quite reliable and long-lasting (a tech person is called in when needed, but having him reset the router(s) every 2 weeks is not an option). Assume this plan and all others will be have a dedicated cable internet connection (or multiple connections if needed) per router. I was thinking of putting in an 'extended' router in the 2nd building from the end on both sides with an attached commercial grade (still learning the differences between commercial and home use for this one) bi-directional booster/repeater antenna. Every other building will have a repeater with a unique IP to distribute the network's load, and the middle building will either need a 3rd router or repeater depending on the signal strength. Any thoughts on my current plan? Am I being too excessive? Too simple? Should I be considering other options? I'd like to think I'm pretty good with technology, but between my first time use of repeaters and having to provide for a whole literal community of users, this is definitely forcing me to think outside the box. Thanks in advance to any help you can give!!!
How can I boost my Wi-Fi signal strength? I've just got a new wireless router which pushes out a lot more mbps than the old one but it doesn't get very good coverage at the opposite end of the house. Is there a way to make the signal stronger or some kind of signal booster I can buy? quote: 'use high performance mode' How do I do that?
A good speed booster or router to get? Hello, I was just wondering, I have a Dell Laptop with windows 7, and me and my mom moved with my sister, they got a nice add on built for us, and where my room is it's not barely a good enough bar for the internet box is down stairs, and I was wondering What would be a really good speed booster that I can get for my laptop to pick up a better signal they have verizon fios, and I get two little bars sometimes it acts up sometimes it's good, or a wi-fi router and how much would they run? Also are there any good ones at Walmart? maybe, Cause I'm going there tomorrow actually I know they have some but I don't know what a good one is, for a good pick up. My laptop is 802.11n something like that, is there something like a usb thing I can buy maybe a little faster to pick it up more, or do you have to stick with in that range? Thanks....
