Can a Wireless Network Range Expander (Signal Booster) be used without configuration to the router? If i was to a get signal booster.. let'ssay the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander, will the network range be expanded without any configuration to the router? I'm trying to connect my PS3 to a wireless network but the signal is too weak. HELP!!!? There is a free network the entire apartment complex I live in uses for free if you are a resident. I have a Playstation 3 and would like to connect it wirelessly to the network, but the signal is too weak. I have a wireless router I used at my last apartment but we had broadband connected to our desktop which I ran my wireless router off of. Is there a way to use my Netgear Wireless G Router (WGR614) to boost the signal in the apartment? Or could I purchase one of the USB drive wireless signal boosters and insert it into the PS3's USB port to boost the signal that way? Which way works? If both, which works best? SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!! I want to connect my Playstation 3 to a wireless network my apartment complex offers for free but the signal is too weak. I have a wireless g router by netgear, is there a way I can use that to boost the signal within the apartment? Or is it possible to connect a USB wireless range booster to the PS3's USB ports to boost the signal? Or anyway other than purchasing internet within the apartment?

Advice on boosting the range of my wireless network. ? I have a Dell Dimension 2100 and a Dell True Mobile 2300 router. The computer is in my basement. I want to use my Dell Inspiron and an iMac upstairs via a wireless network. When I chatted online with Dell Sales, they misdirected me to purchase a Hawkings wireless signal booster. If they had read this forum before they answered my question they would of saved me some time. The Hawkings is not compatable with the True Mobile 2300 because the antennae on the router is not removable. So, I contacted them again and now they suggest the D-Link Wireless range booster. http://www.dlinkshop.com/product.asp?sku=3636205 Can anyone tell me if this product will likely work with my system. I don't trust the Dell online sales people and I'm trying not to spend the money to access Dell Technical Support. I'm also wondering if this range booster would work as well. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1130267578138&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=7813839789B03 thanks, Marc Problem solved by adding a Netgear 54Mbps Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender Kit. I just plugged it in at the router, and the other piece in the upstairs outlet and it's solved.
Should I buy a second router, or a signal booster? I'm trying to get on Xbox Live with the wireless network adapter, but the signal I get from my dish is always very low, should I buy a second separate router for my side of the house (the router has to be on the opposite side) or get a signal booster so I can get on?

How to extend my wireless WiFi signal range? Looking how to extend my wireless WiFi signal range, I'm running a D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router and have 5 wireless clients. Most clients are located in one side of the house, and there is not enough range for the other end. The router is great and has all the features I want with an outstanding performance and range, but the house is HUGE and I need the range doubled/extended to the other side of the house. I have so far tried: HAWKING HWABN1. That did not remedy the problem, because Hawking runs on channel 11 and switching my D-Link to a fixed channel creates intermittent connection problems for my wireless clients. And leaving D-Link on auto channel switching cuts off the connection to Hawking within 10 minutes after initial configuration. And even rebooting the Hawking does not fix the problem. So it's going back I need help finding a wireless product that will stand alone WITHOUT any LAN cables in the mid point between my current wireless router and the desired hot-spot in the home thus extending the range of my existing wireless N draft 2.0 network. Signal boosters will not do any good because the current router has a really big range and the apparatus sitting next to the router will not have a bigger range. I have already bought D-Link ANT24-0230 Xtreme N 2.4GHz Antenna to add to my router, but no cigar. Please help. Thanx. Switching clients to locked channel 11 resulted in out of sync or non communicating quick-books between stations. But that is a great suggestion -mr big-. Bridging the connections wirelessly between routers sounds interesting. Is bridging done the router console or through the network management of the hosting machine?
Do I need a new wireless PCI card or a signal booster? My wireless connection keeps going off. When the connection goes down I go to the Control Panel and Network Connections and repair the connection and it usually comes right back. Is my problem a weak signal or is my PCI card too old and not adequately picking up a strong signal? Would getting a new antenna for the PCI card make a difference?
Wireless Network? how do you boost a wireless network by connecting to it. What i mean is when your laptop connects to a wireless network is there anyway to boost the signal with/without or laptop connected to the network. Ie can the booster pick up the network and then i make the signal bigger. Does the range expander have to be connected to the laptop - can it just expand the network which is in range? Also are they very expensive? Also do thay have to be connected to a wireless router?
How can I extend the range of my wireless network? Im on home network that connects the phone line to a computer and a wireless router. Then the router connects one laptop to the network. I don't understand much about network computing, but I'm not a complete beginner either. I have a computer with wireless that is too far away from the router to pick up the network but I also have a spare router. Can I set up this router in any way to boost my wireless signal. I know you can buy wireless signal boosters but i want a way of doing it with the router.
Can I use a router as a signal booster? I have a linksys router hooked up to my main desktop. The signal is fine but only through about half of the house. I have another computer on the network with a good signal. However my laptop cannot receive it in some areas of the house. Can i connect an old fully functional router to the 2nd computer and create a second network using the wireless internet signal.
Wireless signal weak from access point to laptop cause of distance. Are there antennas, boosters for laptop? Laptop/PC user trying to reach free access point from a distance, wherein signal strength is weak (1-2 bars only), but wish to increase capture range of wireless adapter via an antenna, or some kind of booster adapter to network signal as no control over network signal or distance from access point (on sailboat in marina). Can and/or how can you plug in an omni directional antenna to your computer and/or wireless adapter. Thanks
Can I use my laptop as a signal booster? I'm using a wireless network, but the router will only reach part of my house. So I'm trying to use my laptop as a signal booster, by connecting to the internet in the place where it works, and then creating an 'ad hoc' network, so others can share my internet connection. Will this work? Every time i've tried it so far it disconnects from the normal connection when I create the ad hoc one. Thanks
How can I set up a wireless network with a new computer? I recently got a new PC for my own room. It does not have a wireless PCI card or adapter. On the other side of the house, we have a wireless router, that I purchased for use with my Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS. For the DS and Wii, it works fine--but not as far as my room. My question is two-fold--will I need a signal booster for any signal to reach my room and what hardware will I need for my new PC for it to recieve the signal?
I Need some help with my wireless Network? I Have a really weak signal its an open connection from my friends house my Dell laptop picks it up but only on my porch not in my house i'm looking for some kind of signal booster i can put in the house to pick it up inside and not just outside can anyone PLEASE help me...p.s i don;t have the internet at my own house its just my friends wireless signal i have,
How do I increase my laptop's signal strength? I have a compaq v2651 but the wireless signal is not as good as a 15" unit. Even side-by-side with other laptops it won't pick up have of the networks the other laptop gets, causing a big issue in school where I cannot access the in house wireless network while my classmates can! Is there any way to modify the laptop to increase signal strength? I cannot put too much in the usb ports (I have thought of getting a signal booster thing) as the lecture hall is already too tight with the laptop by itself. Thanks
How to improve my wireless network? im using a belkin wireless 54g router. i have a belkin 54g wireless usb, the router is just in the room below but cannot get it work on my desktop pc. sometimes it does and others it doesn't, should i purchase a belkin signal booster and put this on the upper level?
help increasing range of wireless signal? hi, i have a wireless network set up in house but have problems with the signal. It works fast on most computers but on one further away from modem thing it is much slower and sometimes does not connect. How can this be sped up. We have a booster thing that plugs in mains but this is netgear and we have a bt home hub, will this work or what else can i use.
improving signal radius of home network? I have a linksys wireless-n router, and it works great in my home, but I have been trying to figure out if there is a way to extend the signal to my shop, that is just a few yards outside of my house. It is so close to being strong enough signal there, but it tends to fluctuate from 0 to full strength. Does anyone know what would be the best way of doing this? I have seen wireless antennas, and thought about trying one of those. I don't think that linksys makes a wireless signal booster for their wireless-n routers. Does anyone have any suggestions?
My PC can connect to my wireless network, and my Macs cannot? So for the past few days I've been having some really odd wireless problems. I've got an Airport Extreme router acting as a signal booster for my Linksys router, and up until now I've had no problems. But recently, my two Macs and my Xbox 360 cannot connect to the wireless signal, while my PC can. And nothing gets ethernet. I've got a flashing amber light going on my Airport Extreme, which Apple is rather vague about what that means. Any suggestions?
Can someone recommend a wireless card that will pickup wireless Internet signal the best - high range? I live in an apartment with free WiFi. But I barely get one bar if any. And even with such a low connection, I am getting high speeds. However, I would like to know if someone can recommend a high range receiver or some kind of signal booster so that I can assure a more stable connection with more bars? Also, if I am connected to the network (or any public network), with all file sharing and network discovery off (using Vista), is my cpu safe from intrusion and other hacks???
Help with wireless router? I have one main router that is acting as a dhcp server, unfortuantley this does not reach far enough. I am attempting to use a wireless access point to extend the signal. I believe i need to enable bridging in order to do this wirelessly. I undrestand it is very easy to create a wireless access point with any router (as long as you are using wires) however the space does not lend itself for wiring. I need to extend the wireless network without wireless (high gain antennas and wireless signal boosters are out of the question)
For the wireless network geeks ? a question for you ? My neighbor has a wireless network, I do recieve signal but it is weak .. If I purchased a booster, or wireless expander/extender .. I understand I will need to install the device. If I installed it on my labtop, will it works ? I obviously can't install the booster on my neighbors' computer ? so what shall I do, how can i boost the signal ? So a good answer, or solution .. will be worth 10 hot points !! Thank you !!
Signal Booster or Extender? Ok, so I have a wireless internet connection, and my router in the basement does not give me a good signal in my room on the next floor and the connection just sometimes flat out drops, so I was looking at some different options to improve the performance. I've come across signal boosters such as: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833995088&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Accessories+-+Wireless-_-Amped+Wireless-_-33995088 and also signal extenders such as: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833164035&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Network+-+Wireless+AP/Bridge-_-Hawking+Technology-_-33164035 I'm not sure of the difference, if there is one, between something like an extender or just booster, or if I should look into a signal repeater, and I need someone with experience with this type of thing to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance. I
wireless network questions? Ok here's the situation. There are multiple wireless access points outside my building but I do not get a signal inside the building. What I want to do is get some kind of antenna or signal booster that I can plug a cat-5e cable into and to my wireless router inside so I can get the network inside the building. First, is it possible? Second, what do I need (as in what kind of antenna/booster/adapter etc...) The more specific the better!! Thanks!
Wireless Networking. I have a Netgear wireless router, and I need to get a stronger signal? I am a long way away from my base station, and my transfer rate drops to 1Mbps, and has a very low singal. When I am next to the base station my transfer rate is 11 Mbps. I don't want to have to replace my base station if I can help it.Or is my router just rubbish and needs replacing??!! Could I install a booster/repeater to boost the signal at my end of the house? I have a samsung Q20 laptop with wireless built in. Any help would be great.
Wireless network card Antenna? I just installed a belkin network card in my desktop system. Everything installed fine, and I know there is network signal at this location due to my laptop system picking up several open networks. But Win XP says their are no networks in range. My desktops wifi card does not have an antenna attached and im wondering wether the standard size antenna or one of the booster antennas would be a better choice to resolve the problem. Thanks
Will this work? I am trying to boost my wireless signals using this? OK, so in my house, me and my dad have set up a wireless network. In one room, we have our router, and then we also have in the opposite end of the house, my dad's computer, and we also have my computer, which is in the middle, but upstairs. We also have an Ipad, and an Ipod which we have hooked in. A while ago, we made a signal booster which we put next to my computer, and used to boost the signals to it. My dad removed it, and put it on his computer, so he could do some things for work, because we recently did a little bit of renovations in his study, and now he can't get a very good signal. So, here is what i want to know. I made another signal/wifi booster, but I based it on this: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Wi-Fi-Booster-Using-Only-a-Beer-Can And although mine is slightly different, it functions the same. Now, I was planning on putting it on my computers receiver, but I just thought of a better idea. Would it work if I put it on the modem? I know that's what it is designed for (in the wikihow) but my modem/router is vertical. Where would I put it? should I have it hanging off the side? Also, how much will it boost the signal? I don't need much, only a little bit more, so that it can reach the corners of my house. Thanks guys. I really appreciate it...my dad knows a lot less about computers and electronics than he thinks he does. Oh, and this is written in layman's terms, because I don't know a whole lot about this stuff. My router/modem is a new netgear one, and it's totally fine. Looking for an answer about the signal booster, not looking to get a bunch of new stuff.
Wireless Network Connction? My neighbor has wireless and they said we could use it. However, we need a signal booster. We want to hook up the signal booster in our house.. is this possible?
Is the Hawking HWUG1 Wireless G USB Network adapter is compatible with an RP-SMA pigtail from a...? ...wireless antenna? Thanx I purchased a +15 dBi WiFi Ultimate Range Booster Panel for Wireless Internet by Wifi World for my husband currently deployed to aquire a wireless internet signal, however it only came with an "RP-SMA pigtail" rather than a usb attatchment. I found the Hawking HWUG1 Wireless G USB Network adapter and wondered if anyone could tell me if this adapter is compatible with the antenna, so I don't waste my money or time trying to get this to my husband. Thank you!
Need a device that receives wireless internet signal and give as an output RJ45 plug? Hello all, I am looking for a device that receives wireless internet signal and give as an output RJ45 plug. I have a wireless internet network at home using Linksys router WRT610N. Recently I subscribed with (Talfazat.com) who sent me IPTV setup box that works using internet. This box needs to be connected by wire RJ45 plug to the internet. As my TV is far from my router, I need a way to get internet to the IPTV setup box by wireless connection. I am not sure how to do that. Will a range booster router do the job? Please help me to resolve my issue. Thanks a lot for any help you provide.
How far can I run a cat6 ethernet wire and still get a signal? I want to put a internet surveilance camera in my garage, but it is about a 150 foot run from my garage to my wired network. Will I still get signal from that far? Will I need a signal booster? I really dont want to have to buy a whole new wireless setup. It is a 10/100 router its connecting to.
What signals are boosted by a wireless extender? I am considering getting a wireless extender for my house (separate from the router) and I am wondering if it will also pick up and amplify signals from things like cell phone towers, wii remotes, radio, or other wireless networks in range of the booster. Does the extender have to be the same brand as the router for it to work, or will it extend all brands? Also, will it work with encrypted networks?
Wifi signal booster won't connect.? I bought a Hawkins Hi-Gain USB wifi booster in order to increase signals from free-public networks in my area. I'm on an old Mac Power PC G4. In the beginning, the wireless adapter picked up and increased signal ten-fold and the internet was smooth, but now (although the signal is still strong) it cannot connect to the internet anymore. The Hawkin device prompt window shows me the signal is strong and that I am connected. There are no errors on the device, but rather when I use the browser, the message: "You are not connected to the internet" appears and I cannot browse. However, when I try disconnecting the device and using plain Airport, the connection works this time, except it is weaker. What could be some of the reasons the device will suddenly not be able to connect to the same signal when it worked in the past?
a wireless router or booster? i bought a laptop which has wi fi and i live very close to my mom who has wireless internet my other computer got the signal but this one doesn't. i know the wi fi will connect to the network because i have tried it when at her house. but i don't know if i need to get a wireless booster or a router i do not have internet at my house or a phone line, and no other computers. so i have no way to really hook anything up besides just plugging into the wall.
How do I configure my old wireless router to work with my new Sky broadband? (Or tips on better wifi signal)? Hi guys, I have recently moved broadband providers from Virgin to Sky. When I was connected through Virgin - I had a small Broadband box that plugged into a Netgear WGR614-6VGUKS router. This worked brilliantly around the house and in my office at the end of my garden. We have now moved over to Sky. They sent us a Netgear DG934G - 1SKUKS all in one Broadband & Router box that connects to the phone line. The box is small and grey / black and resembles an old Sky box and unusually has no arial on it. I plugged it all in (minus my old router) and took it for a test run ... and when I did I found I only had 20% wifi signal around the house (works ok through the cabel on main computer) which I can only improve by sitting next to the router - which obviously isnt ideal! We had the idea to plug the old wireless router into the new broadband. I did this by adding the router inbetween the new broadband and the main computer. I did all this and it worked brilliantly for about 10 minutes. Then the wireless disappeared from the network lists and we could no longer connect (Sky still shows up - just not the old wireless). I have done a fair amount of digging around and most people say that it is impossible to use a different wireless router with Sky Broadband. If this is the case - how come I got it to work the first time? Does anyone no the answer to this? Is there a way you can configure wireless routers to take over from the rubbish Sky one? If not - what is the answer to increasing the wifi strength? I have looked at wifi signal boosters briefly but they all seem to replace an arial that doesnt exist on our new broadband box. Please help - this is ruining my working day! Lol :) Thanks in advance. :)
Will the xbox 360 wireless usb adapter work with a wireless "N" network? I currently have a linksys WRT54G wireless "G" router and I will be looking to upgrade soon to a wireless "N" network because of the highly acclaimed dramatic speed and bandwidth increase. My laptop has a 54mbps internal wireless card and I'm 90% positive that I wont have a problem connecting that to the "N" network, but I'm not sure if my xbox 360 wireless network adapter will work with the "N" setup. I know I'll definitly be staying with linksys routers since they are hands down the best quality and provide the strongest signal. But I'm not sure which model to get. I was thinking of either the WRT160N with range booster or the WRT310N. Any suggestions? Also, if it turns out that the xbox 360 wireless adapter doesnt work with the "N" network, could I possibly just plug a wireless "N" usb adapter into the 360 such as the linksys WUSB600N or the WUSB300N and use that? Explination anyone? Thanks again!
Wireless Networking in a Motel.? Ok, I own and operate a computer repair/tech service company. I was contracted by a motel to fix and improve their wireless network to reach to all their rooms and second building. When I first arrived there, they were using a single Linksys router that more or less covered their primary building until it broke. I happened to have a Hawking HWRN1A Router in-stock that I replaced it with. When I first hooked up the Hawking unit. It had overall better range and throughput than the Linksys did. After a small amount of time, its range and actual usable range decreased dramatically. Now, the router will barely put a signal out that reaches to the end of the primary building where as before I was able to reach the secondary building with it and still be connected at ~25% signal. It's usable range is now even less than it was before, it only puts out a signal thats usable in the office where the router is located and the 6 rooms above and to the sides around the office. I then went ahead a purchased a Signal Booster made by Hawking Technology the "HSB2" which was supposed to strengthen the actual signal put out by the router. It did absolutely nothing. In fact it seemed to decrease my range and signal strength. After doing some more research into the matter. I went ahead and got Hawking's HAO9SIP +9 db Omni-Directional outdoor antenna, which is supposed to have a range of ~1.5 miles. After hooking this up, I noticed a nice increase in coverage area, but I still have the same problem of it the signal not being usable. What I mean by that, is after you get a few rooms away from the office and AP. You can still see the router, but not connect, nor use the internet on it. Like during my testing I walked around the entire property while streaming video off of the internet to know exactly when it dropped off. I didn't go very far before the video stopped and I could no longer load any websites. Yet, I was still sending and reciving packets from the network itself and was still able to see the other computers connected to it. What can I do to fix this?
Wifi wireless network advice ??? If i brought one of these http://www.wifi-antennas.co.uk/index.php?target=products&product_id=26 and one of these http://www.wifi-antennas.co.uk/index.php?target=products&product_id=23 and attached them to my wifi card in my desktop How far do you think the wifi signal would travel? The booster is 1000mw and the antenna is a 9dBi WiFi Sector Outdoor Antenna.
how can i increase the connectivity of my built-in wireless? I have built-in wireless and sometimes it likes to just act funny. sometimes it just wont connect or it will but only for a while and then it disconnects. how can i increase its strength so that i can get better networks and connect with stronger signals? is there some kind of wireless booster or adapter i can download for free that can help with that?
wireless internet problems, any advice would be awesome? I have a wireless network set up at my house, all other computers or laptops are able to connect to the internet just fine but my desktop upstairs (router is downstairs) is have a big problem staying connected. I updated the drivers for the wireless card and they're up to date. What's confusing is that the signal strength is reading good or excellent but it shows that the system is searching or unable to connect. I will get times where I have no problem at all connecting and it will stay that way for weeks on end, but then it will go down again and go through brief periods of time (20 seconds or so) where it stays connected but then disconnects. My next line of thought was that the card must be going bad, so I went and bought another one. That card wouldn't even load onto my computer. I ended up taking it back and reinstalling my old card. At which point, the internet started working fine again for about 2 hours, then went right back down and is once again struggling to connect. Should I look into getting a signal booster or could this be a problem with the motherboard? Any advice would be great, I just don't want to have to drop several hundred on somebody coming out to just tell me what's wrong. Thanks in advance!
10 Points!!Wireless Router Network Issue...What is best option for best quality range? 10 Pts.Best Answer!!? I am using a Linksys WRK54G Wireless-G router 54 mbps. This router sends a signal of possibly up to 50 feet maybe a little more no more than 80, So I purchased an Airlink AP311w Repeater. This repeater is to boost the signal which it does but not enough. My room is on the second floor of a two story house. I am having issues getting a stable connection the best signal reads, "Very Low". Any suggestions on what the problem is or how to fix it? And also what is the best router and range booster to go with? My room is approximately 150-240 ft. away from the router so if I center the range booster it would be 75-120 ft away. Which is the best router to go with and can someone give me experiences with routers. Feel free to post sources they would be more than helpful. Here is alink to the repeater -- http://www.outpost.com/product/4525367 Here is the linksys router but instead it cam with a usb network adapter -- http://rage.against.org/LinksysWRK54G Thanks Guys!

Laptop does not pickup wireless networks? I have a HP Pavilion with Windows Vista that I just bought. I have had some trouble finding a wireless signal. I took this computer with a friend who had his and he was able to find about 3 or 4 networks while my computer found none. He also found one in another place that I found none. He said he also has used 2 or 3 other computers there. Is it possible that my computer has a weak wireless card? What can I do about it do they have a booster? Or should I contact HP? The wireless came pre built into my computer when I bought it. how do i reinstall it?
another wireless wireless networking q? if i have a wireless g network card in my computer and i want to improve the signal, can i get the wireless n router that is backwards compadable and still get the range/speed booster technology benifits on the wireless g, without buying the wireless n, or should i just get a new wireless g router
Can you get signal for ure mobile phone through the internet? Hi there I've just had a new Orange Nokia 6303 mobile phone. I live out in the sticks so I've never really had good signal. My previous Nokia phone used to get the odd bar here and there, which I could put up with to a certain extent, but I can't get a single bar anywhere in our house with my new mobile. And I don't really want to change it because its such a nice phone. This might be a really stupid question, but I thought there was no harm in asking! I was wondering whether there's a way of connecting it to the internet through our wireless router network to get signal? I've tried looking it up but I can't find anything (which probably answers my question!) except for the option of putting an external booster outside which i don't really want to do because we're selling our house. The other network providers don't even have signal here, so I don't even have the option of changing providers! Your help would be MUCH appreciated! Ta v much D x
should I get a type G wireless card? Or type N usb adapter? I want my desktop to be able to use wireless internet, primarily for gaming. It'll be in my room, and my laptop usually gets 3 bars of strength from the wireless router. 1) which would be better for my desktop? The internal PCI type G card? Or the type N USB adapter? Let me see if I can elaborate a bit more... 1)wouldn't an internal PCI anything be faster than its usb counterpart? But in this case, the antenna is type N (type N = better right?) So...which should I get? I was told over the phone that the usb adapter doesn't actually have an antennae, but it still gets me online wirelessly. 2) Will having 3 bars of signal strength adversely affect my gaming network performance? As in, will it cause me to lag? 3) Will either the wireless card or usb adapter be more powerful/receive a better signal than my laptop? 4) I know type N networks can transmit more data, but do they also have more range? Or will I need a signal booster antennas for my router?
can cellphone boosters crash networks? us cellular is disallowing the sales of signal boosters, even wireless ones by their third party agents because they 'claim' if, say an RV convention came to town, an overload of boosters/ repeaters could crash an infrastructure. Is there any truth to that?
what do i need to get a wireless internet in my house? i just got cable internet and im trying to skip the hassle of running the cable wire to the basement where the switch (im already wired for a network, but for phone line). anyway the modem is hooked up to my moms comp in the lower level. my dad already has 802.11b in his laptop. i think i just need to plug the modem into a wireless router and a reciever into my comp. i may get a signal booster to make sure i get a strong signal (my room is two level up, about 30 feet away) is this all i need? what other number should i look for? whats the fastest transfer i can get? i think im getting close to 1mb/s
Will this work? Will this work? I was thinking of buying a range booster to increase the wireless signal my laptop picks up and then connecting my laptop to my 20Gb PS3 to try and use that for faster downloading and online play. What do you think????? What about this : Linksys Wireless N USB Adapter (WUSB300N-CA) The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. Get connected to Wireless-N, Wireless-G, and Wireless-B networks with the Wireless-N USB Network Adapter from Linksys.
Laptop seems to have trouble picking up wireless signals? I have a HP Pavilion with Windows Vista that I just bought. I have had some trouble finding a wireless signal. I took this computer with a friend who had his and he was able to find about 3 or 4 networks while my computer found none. He also found one in another place that I found none. He said he also has used 2 or 3 other computers there. Is it possible that my computer has a weak wireless card? What can I do about it do they have a booster? Or should I contact HP?
what type of router do i need for a two computer home network? what type of router do i need for a two computer home network? i currently have a linksy's 2.4ghz 802.11g with speed booster. unfortunately, while my computer is able to to access and maintain a steady signal with the router, my roommate can only catch the signal, and keep it for a few minutes once his laptop leaves the room the router is in. this is a fairly small apartment so it seems likely the signal should reach. our current wireless signal is: 768 Kbps download speed and 128 Kbps upload speed. with these two factors, is this enough power for two computers to be using the same router?
Ways to Improve Signal Strength on Linksys WRV200 Router? Hello, I recently purchased a Linksys WRV200 Wireless-G VPN Router with Range Booster. However, the router does not seem to have a whole lot of range when I'm using it. I'm on the second floor of my house (the router is downstairs), and my signal strength is constantly at "Low". I use an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection for the built-in wireless card on my computer, which is a HP Tablet Computer, running windows XP. However, I don't think it's a problem w/ my wireless card b/c the other laptop also gets a bad connection. The only time I get good signal strength is when I'm directly above the wireless router (in the bathroom on the floor directly above where the router is), or when I'm right next to the router. Also, if you're going to explain something really detailed, I would please ask that you would post step-by-step directions on how to exactly do it because I'm not too good w/ computers. Any help, no matter how minor it may seem, would be greatly beneficial to me
D - Link Wireless N router Rangebooster? Ok so i got my D- link Wireless N range booster router, i got almost all my pc's connected to my router but one. The one that hasnt connected has a problem in Windows Network Connection. Although its a wireless N rangebooster router and the signal is full i always get this message. "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of availible networks, and try to connect again." Like i said the network adaptor detects it with 4/5 bars, but yet i get this error.
I need your opinion on wireless networking (not software portion)? I have a 400Mbps modem connected to a buisness sided computer and i have a 54 mbps lynksys router sending the signal to my other (gaming) computer. My other computer has a cruddy litteraly $2 network card made be E home. I get a low signal to no siganl (1mbps to 11mbps) because the computers are all the way across the house (my house is brick, so it slows the signal down even more). I want to improve the signal so i want to one of 5 things (or if you want to suggest anything feel free) 1. connect the modem/router to the gaming computer and put the network card on the other computer 2. buy a better network card 3. buy a better router 4. buy the lynksys router booster antenna or 5. Any combination of the other 4 I dont want to spend a lot of money so whatever is the best, most cost effective way to get better signal please tell me the best way, Thank you
Best wireless router for a large area? i am looking for a strong wireless router to add to my dsl network...what is the best one and what type of boosters will I need to push the signal further?
Good Wifi Amplifier? Where i live there's two wireless networks not even a mile away from me. So i'm looking for a good wifi signal booster/amplifier? I'm not to familiar with them so could you give me an idea of one to get? Preferably i'd like one that can go past 1 mile so i have more network options. my budget is $50 even if there is not one thats good enough to extend past a mile could you recommend ANY type of signal amplifier? thanks
Does anybody know if i am lagging? I have a linisys wireess router with speed booster i always get medium to strong signal with the 360 wireless network adaptor from about 50 feet away.i was just wondering, even if i cant tell it,am i lagging.i play cod 4 online
networking/online connection troubles? i just got xp onto my asus g2s x3 and i was able to get online on my friends wifi but now i cant connect to my home network via ethernet it might be a driver issue but so far ive tried connecting my laptop directly to the modem and i found this wifi signal booster that my dad tells me can be used as a wireless router when connected to the our wired router. the software that came with the signal booster wouldn't recognize what middle i had on my laptop and with the software on the other computer it had recognized the device but i couldn't click the next button maybe because its not a router, when the signal booster is connected to the router and turned on i can connect my laptop to it but no online connection could be established. id like to get my internet work working on a wired connection rater than wireless, especially considering the signal booster which might possibly be a Router is nearly touching my computer so threres no point for wireless. here's the device im trying to use as a router, i didn't think it is a router but if it can help my get connected il use it, but again id like to stay wired http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=33&FamID=79&ProdID=241 yes my computer has been connected to the network, but that was before downgrading to xp a few days ago and might be the cause. my network is a modem going to a cable router leading off to three computers including mine. and no i didn't shut the modem off when directly connected to my computer, so il give it a shot. so anyone else that can help out please do id like to get all of this working before Monday
Cant connect to a wireless connection anymore? Straight to the point...About 3 days ago I was could connect to my wireless internet which is about 2-3 feet away from my laptop. Yesterday I took disconnected my desktop and stored it in the garage because I don't use the desktop anymore because my laptop is faster and newer.I have a Linksys wrt54gs and the easy link advisor was installed in the desktop.Since I dont use the desktop anymore I installed it on the laptop.I found 2 CD's one says Wireless - N and the other says Wireless - G.I installed the wireless N and everything and secured it with WPA...When I went into Wireless Connections it found my connection with 100% signal but when it connects it says acquiring network address and stays there forever... Sooo...I unsecured my connection to no protection at all and still the same thing. Before I could connect wirelessly no problem at all when it was on the desktop. The only thing I think i did wrong was that on the router itself it says Wireless G with speed booster and I install Wireless N. I can only connect with the cable and my PS3 connects fine wirelessly So all I have to do is uninstall the program? if it was working fine before im guessing Wireless Zero is already installed

How do i improve a wireless connection on a desktop without a router? Is there anyway to improve a wireless connection to an outside router in an open network ? The access point is at a neighborhood clubhouse, and im roughly a block away. I do manage a signal that alternates between strong to absent, and my transmit/receive rates bounce all over the place. This causes all sorts of greif if im watching online videos (hulu) or trying to play online games. Would an antenna "booster" solve my issue? I know all my drivers are up to date, im not infected, tryed swapping pci slots, etc.. Im running a linksys rangeplus pci adapter, connecting to a wireless-g netgear router thats some distance away, and even though my speed claims to hover around 6mbps, it feels like friggin dial up. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated as Im throughly frustrated.
Will a "G" Laptop work on a "N" WIFI network? My Uncle next door is buying a laptop on monday and thus needs to get a wireless router. He has offered to let me use his WiFi if I will set it all up for him. His laptop is a/b/g/n compatible, mine is a/b/g. My question is , If he gets an "N" router, will mine work? Or will I have to get an "N" card? What would be best? The router will be about 60' indoors from where I use my laptop, and I am thinking about getting a directional antenna to get the best out of the signal. Or, should I get a "booster"? Like this one: http://www.whotspot.com/wshop/product_info.php?cPath=40&products_id=156 Remember, I am on dial up, so any improvement is a good one? Who makes the best WiFi equipment?
